My opinion: I love the colors of the clothes, but right now I'm not feeling the overall "look". Maybe it's the hair thing going on that I can't stand. They should have left his hair alone-or at least emphasize the curl in it-to bring out the best result.

No he doesn't. But with normal clothes he looks at least 5 or 7 kg thinner (not dark clothes). And I'm not exagerating. I saw him twice after AO (well in the piguin pictures he looks a lot thinner than with the tennis outfit): in Cordoba he was with friends and in Bs As (he was with his Mom and VIcky). And In Bs As he had a yellow shirt (not the best color for him  ) still he did look a lot thinner than with this outfit.
For example in Madrid (generally the indoor season) he was heavier than now, that's for sure.

I know some outfits can make you look thinner/heavier than others, but such a difference? (not that he's thin as DAvydenko with normal clothes, of course, but nothing like this.)
Well, Barrionuevo was the one with the theory of making him gain more weight and if he lost something, making him recover it. Don't know now he's out what happens (I heard his team was discussing making lost weight, but not that much... different people, different theories I suppouse)

I'm glad someone is talking about David losing some weight! The lost weight will make him faster and minimize injuries.

I'm glad someone is talking about David losing some weight! The lost weight will make him faster and minimize injuries.

The funny thing? Barrionuevo made him gain weight to avoid injuries. Seems that he had a really bad work (talking about muscles) since he was young. That made him have several injuries and weird ones. And according to his former PT he was thin. So he made him gain weight to protect certain areas and work over that with gym.
The thing is that worked, since he made that, he got less injuries. Still has that tendence, because he's like that, trainning and preparation or not (that can help him a lot but the tendence is there)
And he was faster even with more weight than this. I think his velocity problems now are more related to finishing the pre-season before leaving for IW and also the fact that he probably is trying to come back from his knee injury. He played almost 5 month with that problem and that changes you the way you run and move. Sometimes is better to not play at all than doing it and get some "incorrect movements" that later are often difficult to leave behind. (hoping that is not because he still feels something in his knee)
I always say this: in Madrid I was there with some friends, walking fast because we're late. On the other way was David, his brother and others. Javier bumped me, by accident of course (they were walking fast too :) ) and I almost ended on the floor when David caught me. Not that I touched too much ;), but he was solid as a rock in the abdominal part, upper chest and arms. So is not that he doesn't have muscular tone.
Also then he heavier than now. (that blue shirt doesn't help him at all.... look at those pictures and the ones trainning with Calleri: http://www.menstennisforums.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/47514/cat/825 He has an oversized shirt but still he looks nothing like with the blue one )

Edit: sorry for the rank

The whole "gaining weight" thing to protect from injuries doesn't make sense. The more sensible thing to do would be "bulk up"-that is, spend more time in the gym. Gaining weight to protect from injuries just creates more injuries-hence, the "weird injuries" you're talking about-and other health problems, like illnesses. He needs to lose the weight and concentrate on building muscles in certain areas....like the belly, for instance. Then and only then will we see better results.

OK, this shirt is cut closer to his body...and this is what he should wear for on-court attire rather than that bags and rags mess that he's been used to wearing.
Also, when did David become thong man? I know some people want privacy and all, but he's letting his stuff hang all over the place. David, a cup is in order.....

That's what I think. But Barrionuevo had that theory in same cases. I worked with him at the hockey national team of our country and he was excellent in the major part of the things but there were points where I still think he was wrong. But the things worked or at least worked in that moment  When he trainned (and he did it a lot) with the male hockey team he made the same with at least two players. And the injuries stopped. I'll never agree with something like that, but in some people seem to work (of course is gaining weight and doing a lot of gym, but still for me is what you said)

I still think he should lose weight. But, of course, he will never have a Davydenko body like, or even Chela ( actually that would be kinda scary I think, lol ) but droping a few pounds wouldn't hurt anyone.

Galathea
03-16-2007, 08:46 PM
I agree about losing some weight, but what I'm saying is that he's not that heavier like he often looks with that hideous tennis clothes he uses. Specially when he goes with oversizes shirt that looks like tends.
See this picture:
http://espndeportes-akamai.espn.go.com/2003/photos2007/0312/e_nalbi_HT.jpg
This is from the Mathieu's match. He had a shirt, at least, two sizes bigger than his. In some moment seems that it was twisted or whatever and was sitck to his body and his waist. Compared to others from that match he looks a lot thinner. (again compared to the others pictures, not that he's slim ;) ). The same with the trainning pictures (in some you can see the shadow of his body more marked)
So what some of us are pointing is that he's not that heavier, he could lose some weight but is not that much what he needs. And, for example, he was heavier at the indoor season than now. The tennis clothes makes him look at least 5 kg heavier. He has to lose some weight (specially if you watch the one with the black underpants ) but is not that much like some people think

I had the luck to see David in person on many ocasions, and I know he is not a fat pig! Please!

All I am saying is that in this sport, or in any sport for that matter, a bit too much weight can never help. Of course this is not the only issue that David has to deal with, if he wants something more, there's a lot of work that has to be done, in and outside his body.
