Beating Sergi Bruguera (two-time French Open champion) was one of the best Pete`s achievements on clay.

This is of course picture from French Open 1996 (second round). Sampras won 6:3, 6:4, 6:7 (2-7), 2:6, 6:3 after great match.

That`s true... Pete had always many problems with Krajicek, Ferreira, Stich
(h2h 5-6), Hewitt and Safin... Why didn`t you want to see Pete as a winner of Wimbledon 1998 mimi? :p
Goran finally won this tournament in 2001 ;)

He didnt really have a problem with safin, but he met safin just after he broke the record, he stopped training as intensely, if you watch his matches before and after wimbledon, he has less energy, hes a little bit more off the mark and he doesnt have as much of a killer instinct, he doesnt hunger so much anymore. Safin played the best match of his life but Pete did have his chances to make it a closer encounter. Hewitt, Pete beat him 6-0 at Key Biscayne in 00 the loss at Queens was close Pete didnt try as hard for the non GS titles anymore, and in 01 at USO he was extremley fatigued and just didnt have the will power to fight Hewitt after the first set loss, and then Hewitt had that mental edge over him. Kraijeck, that record should be 5-5, you know why??? Richard beat him in 99 when Pete had just come back after his time off, remeber after breaking the record for 6 years at number 1, he stopped playing for a while. Later in the year after Wimbledon when he was back in form on that 26 match Winning streak he beat Ferreira AND Kraijeck and he really did them badly, he made them look like they were nothing more than "minor challenges". With Michael Stich, he mostly played pete from 90-92, And the record (up until about 99) was even, The final loss that pete had at the Grandslam cup, was not counted because it wasnt until around 99 that the Grandslam cup was considered an official ATP event :), and lets not forget Stich was one of the most talented of his generation, plus a strong serve volleyer, Very difficult to adjust too for an all courter or anyone in general, in fact everyone struggles with Kraijeck and Stich's type because htey are so aggressive and strong and they serve really big and are accurate and mix it up, Agassi was the only one who was able to combat them, and even he had trouble with Richard who was one of the strongest all round players of his generation (plus his serve was nearly as hard to read as petes), its just the constant agressive powerplay thats difficult to pick up on, but Pete knew that agressive play would prevail and thats how he beat Kraijcek in the end. (At least there was no one who could constantly destroy him).
