who's that guy from ghana?

I think someone posted on another thread that he trains in Atlanta (?). I've never heard of him before either, but he played well in Orlando and Boston. I also believe someone said that he'd spent a few years playing on the African circuit(?) I don't think there's ever been a good player from Ghana before.

Does anyone know what's up with Sa? He's used to be in top 100, what happened there?

Injuries plus lack of confidence. This year his biggest problem was a wrist injury that forced him to stay 3 months off the courts.

It's good like that, there are some players I wouldn't mind seeing.

Seems that Lucho will get his practice at this event for the AO. Free entry is always good.

Yes, the field is quite good if we compare it to New Caledonia. Of course, the fact that the prize has risen to US$ 125,000 has a big influence on it. I confess I was expecting to see Del Potro playing, but Lucho Horna is also entertaining to watch.

Well I just hope that Horna reaches the latest rounds so that I'll be able to see him playing, since I probably won't be in the city by the first few days of that week. Yeah, I guess it's on Rebound Ace or similar, actually the company that fabricates the surface is called Policourt.

Yeah, I'll cheer for Saretta. Fruttero has good memories of Brazil, he got good results here in August, I think that's why he's playing this tournament. ;)

I think I will be there this time. Last year I was going to the final, but couldn't go, this time I intend to go there one or two days, unless in case of the time be unstable.
There will be a good amount of players that I want to see, besides that I absolutely love the park where it will be and the neighboring region.

I think Joao Souza can get a WC, just like Bruno Rosa.
But we never know if some so-called unknown-even-for-local-people players won't get it. Or Rafael Farias again hahaha....

All the best from me to Carlos Berlocq and Lucho Horna and Maximo Gonzalez and Thiago Alves.

it's a good thought of his, otherwise he might stuck at challenger level forever as the challenger life can be entertaining and making feel comfortable.
Looks like Guga still wants to mean something in world's tennis.

I'm sorry I was offline for few weeks, I don't know anything!!!! Oh damn, that's quite interesting! I am sorry to hear this you know... Guga is a brilliant player, we all would love to see him in action in good shape . But at least I saw he's using protect ranking to eter Vina del Mar... maybe this will help...

I definately don't want him to become a mediocre challenger player and end his career as one, like Squillari did, for example, but I don't see any problem in him playing one challenger or another, since he needs to regain confidence and recover himself in the rankings.

Skipping AO was a wise decision. He'll be fresh for the Latin-American clay season, where he has always felt comfortable, unlike Melbourne (where he always had disappointing results).

Yes, Rosa deserves one WC. Last year, the 4 best ranked brazilians who couldn't get a direct entry received WCs. This will be totally diferent... I still think they should give one to Andre Miele.

I saw tis matches on TV:
Silva d Melo 6/1 6/4. Julinho played well and Melo had problems with his serve.
Vassalo Arguello d Ferreiro 2/6 6/2 6/2. Franco did more than 20 double faults. He was the best from baseline, with good shots, but his serve was terrible. Julinho must beat Martin if nothing goes wrong.

Maximo was the best in the match against Bruno, but he lost many set points. His shots were going well, but Flavio must win in 2nd round. Rosa needs to train serve and forehand.
Great wins for Thiago and Andre!

First time I saw Alves playing and he had a very solid start. He was rarely commiting UE's and had a very solid game from the baseline. He's quite powerful and his shots, at times, are so accurate! :yeah: :D
In the 2nd set he wasn't that focused and started making more UE's. He was lucky that the Argentinian had an injury, but he had all the credits for the win! ;) :)

Btw, I hate Arguelo from now on. What a ridiculous guy to retire when Thiago was only 2 points away from the win :o, great sportsmanship

I so hope Thiago and Flavio make an all Brazilian final!

If it's not important, then why are you so pissed off? I barely see you on the ATP tournaments sub-forums, I just see you here on the challengers forum, so you're contradicting yourself. Anyway, I couldn't care less about what's important for you. And you don't have to tell me what you think about Thiago, I already know it, you've been attacking him the whole week. I'm not saying that what he did today was right, but it's pretty hypocritical of you to defend your countrymen on this issue, when most of them are known all over the world for doing this kind of thing. Then again, I'm not saying what's right or wrong, it's part of the game and we have to accept these things.

I did not say you were a loser, I just said that you need to learn to accept defeats when the Argentines are outplayed by Brazilians. It makes no sense to compare the two countries, we all know that Argentina have always had a much bigger tradition in tennis, if we're talking about South America even Chile has a bigger tradition than Brazil in tennis, so no need to attack the Brazilian players when they win, we all know the top Brazilians are worse than the top Argies.

Good luck to the Argies in the Australian Open. Peace!

He said in the interview that he had cramps and that's why he called for the trainer.

At least we're having an all Brazilian final, no Argentinians left :bounce: :nerner:

About Argentinian tennis, there's no doubt you have much better players than here in Brazil, a country that doesn't invest in any sport, but football and volleyball.

I won't start arguing with you because it's senseless, you're a loser and nothing will change that! ;) :yeah: :D

I hope Thiago takes this title :p

I was there today and certainly it was worth to see. Here goes a relatively simple review of the individual final:

The individual final was disputed with a lot of emotion and vibration, the players and the crowd were passing excitement one to another, raising the overall level of play and consequently provoking some remarkable rallies and shots. Lots of vibrations by both players after long points and winners. And by the crowd too. Very, very enjoyable.

Alves requested medival assitence after some games in the first set and also in similar (I think) time in the second set. No idea about what happened Perhaps someone who watched it by tv can clear that for me :)

Long rallies were very fun to watch, especially when they were able to run out of their backhands and hit forehand to forehand balls with great power and some cool angles. One thing to remember is how Alves drop shots, that he used some times in these long rallies were totally (or almost) uselles.
Anyway, the first set was close and probably could have gone to either side, however, I felt that Alves was being forced to try harder to stay neck-to-neck with Saretta. This may have been one of the main factors in the second set, where in several points he was a bit rushed to dominate Saretta with his forehand, but not being able to do it and making sone unnecessary errors, while Saretta cunningly keep pushing the ball back to him make those erros until the decisive break.

Overall it was a good match, very good match in the first set, and certainly even better for those who were there like me.

I can't wait to see some pieces of it into a probable reprise on tv and see if I will have the same impression about the technical aspects of it. It's different to watch it in person, even more with an infernal sun trying to toast you and the rest of the crowd. :)

I can also talk about the doubles final, I imagine that it wasn't transmitted unless a miracle happened and while wasn't as good as the individual final, it had some good moments in the first set.
