Geez....Is Davis Cup beginning to suck or what?

How can someone who couldnt even win a single major title the whole year keep winning matches against players that are not even close to being top 10 player? And this match: Ljubicic/Ancic def Hrbaty/Mertinak: 7-6(5) 6-3 7-6(5) match, if you ask me, I would say this is typical first round slam doubles match, definitely not made for Davis Cup finals. Ever since Lleyton decided to skip Davis Cup, it's has only gone downhill. Last year was bad enough with Roddick beaten by has-been Moya and relatively fresh Nadal and pretty much threw away the trophy that he should have won. Who knows it just keeps getting worse. Gosh.....I cant even begin to imagine how bad some ofthe ties are going to be for next year. Let's hope the same sort of final will not repeat next yaer.

I have never liked Davis cup competition because of its retard format .

Sometimes a nation wins this cup playing all the ties at home and i have always considered that winning this competition is more a matter of good draws ( that is to play at home ) than a matter of tennistic level of the nation during that year , and we all know examples of a nation that wins Davis cup playing always at home and the next year the first tie plays abroad and loses .

To me Davis Cup sucks due to its format and in my opinion has more merit to win any TMS than to win a Davis Cup playing the 4 ties at home

I totally understand if youīre not interested in this DC final, because thereīs neither national interest nor are there any "over-exposed" players, BUT these guys totally DESERVE being where they are now... OK, they never won a grand slam, so what?? Is this a criteria for being in the final?? NO!!
So let people enjoy their national success and find a more mature way of dealing with something you donīt like....

BTW, this DC final is totally fine with me :D

Your Lleyton still plays it. The rest of the Australian team just isn't consistent enough to advance. Wait, why am I responding?

The teams that are in this years finals deserve to be there.

both team in the finals deserved their spots fairly
people should find some different way to deal with thier frustrations
sorry if you canīt be happy that two ˝small˝countries to play in dc finals, but donīt try to minimize our sucsses by trashing davis cup
better go and watch a tape of leyton winning wimbledon or something like that, and let us enjoy the moment we deserve

I agree. Yes- there are some things about the format that I don't like- but I must give Croatia and the Slovak Republic props for being in the final. They got here by winning and deserve to be here.

Ivan in the first round tie against the USA managed to beat both Roddick and Agassi in singles; both were ranked in the top ten and the match was in the USA. Ivan combined with Mario in between those matches to beat the number 1 doubles pair of Bryan/Bryan. An impressive combination of performances. Croatia in Croatia also beat Russia which included Ivan beating Davydenko another top 10 player.

Argentina beat Australia because Nalbandian easily beat Lleyton on grass in Australia earlier this year.

exactly

btw, please don't tell me u think that that would have been a first round doubles match :o
mertinak and hrbaty made the QF of wimbledon
not to mention the fact that mario and ivan have had a lot of success in doubles and have beaten most of the top doubles teams

Croatia had to win a very difficult away tie in the USA, but Slovakia got the final because of home advantage and court surface.

They should instead hold the Davis Cup every two years and change the Doubles rubber to best-of-three sets.

still, you have to deliver
aussies had the same advantage ( maybe even bigger ) against argentina, but they didnīt deliver
slovaks took thier opportunity and they are deserved finalists

Sometimes Davis Cup goes to unworthy team through the luck of the draw and injuries of key opponents.. This year is the case.. Croatia has played one tie against a strong opponent - against USA..

Roddick, agassi, Davydenko were and are in TOP 10 that lost to him this year. Bryans were #1 team that lost.

some of the best matches i have seen were DC, i think a lot of people would agree.

DC brings out emotion and qualities that arent normally seen during an ATP match.

sure some ties suck, but some are priceless.

long live DC forever!!!

How is Canada going, in DC these days?

PS. I love Canada and the Cannad-ians I've met have been awesome. Just posing a question. I am disinterested in all players except my birthday buddy Kucera, but am glad to have some very random, yet talented players in the draw.

If Moya is a has-been...what does that make Roddick? "Having an off day"? Or perhaps he was injured.

Agree. Croatia earned their spot in this final. I don't have the same feeling of endearment for Slovakia due to their home advantage and court surface.

I think the USA and Russia are very stong teams to overcome on surfaces that both the USA and Russia were comfortable playing on.

Youzhnyi and Davidenko indoors "strong"? If Croatia beat Safin-led team indoors, I would understand..

I don't think it sucks. The problems surrounding it, scheduling, availability of top players are things that can be worked out by all involved if they want. Every Davis Cup can't be United States vs Argentina or Spain vs Australia or Australia vs Argentina. This year it's Croatia vs Slovakia, two rising countries and so far it seems the matches have been competitive.

If the Davis Cup was held every other year I think it would be better. The format is fine too. Teams with the best fitness and players who can master the surface chosen for the tie win.

What kinda Davis Cup Final deciding tie is this....:o....
Oh well, still good job for Lubijcic, only one match lost......
And I'm actually looking forward to seeing Croatia defending this title in 06:). Best of luck.
