Well, apparently, the Gasquet-Federer match is tomorrow afternoon (I'd have at least thought it'd be a night match, but I guess not), and I have tennis practice at 2:30-4:30 Central time, so I'd have to hope that Roddick-Andreev and Hingis-Safina are nice and long if I don't want to miss anything. Or maybe, since I have been sick and already missed a couple practices, I can skip one more just to catch this match.

(1)R Federer (SUI) vs (16)R Gasquet (FRA)

And also Richie returned Federer's serves very bad ...

True, Roger did never allow him to get into this match. It must have been quite cruel. Everything went so fast. Richard did not try to delay things, but played on Roger's terms. There is one thing, however: You can't criticise him for waiting behind the baseline ;).

Roger didn't play very good last night and Richard was playing well. Why did Roger have to play his level again against Richard?
Once Richard lost his serve on first set then it was all Roger... the match was really boring!

At least Richard played a couple of matches here, and hopefully he'll get a better draw in Miami....I also think he now knows what to really expect from Federer incase they meet in Miami, and I know Federer is not going to roll over him cos I think Richard was a little bit overwhelmed yesterday.

2 BP converted by Fed = 6/3 6/4
Richard managed to hold in all his other service games... so the score is what it is. :p

Q. Is that a reflection that your level went up or Gasquet was not playing as well?

ROGER FEDERER: Well, hard to say. He definitely hasn't had the best of starts to the season. So maybe still struggling with that a little bit. I thought maybe on my own serve, I never allowed him to play that much, I played aggressive.

Obviously, I think I'll find a way into his service games. I think, you know, the score was reflected really also how the game was. Maybe I lifted my game up a little bit. Maybe he allowed me to play a little bit more. Who knows. I think it's a combination of many things.

Well, he needs to gain about 250 points if he wants to hit #10 on the world, so he needs a good draw in Miami and will have to play very well in Monte Carlo (to defend the points) and Rome (where hopefully he can gain some points). He can do it, I think, and if not immediately, eventually.

Edit: And if they use the post-IW rankings for Miami (as I'm assuming they are), Richard should be seeded 11 unless Coria plays. Hopefully he can avoid Federer or Nalbandian or Nadal early on, and can get a decent enough draw to make a good dent. :o

:haha:

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Miami, uh, uh
Southbeach, bringin the heat, uh
Haha, can y'all feel that
Can y'all feel that
Jig it out, uh

Here I am in the place where I come let go
Miami the base and the sunset low
Everyday like a mardi gras, everybody party all day
No work all play, okay
So we sip a little something, lay to rest the spell
Me an Charlie at the bar runnin up a high bill
Nothin less than ill, when we dress to kill
Everytime the ladies pass, they be like (Hi Will)
Can y'all feel me, all ages and races
Real sweet faces
Every different nation, Spanish, Hatian, Indian, Jamaican
Black, White, Cuban, and Asian
I only came for two days of playing
But everytime I come I always wind up stayin
This the type of town I could spend a few days in
Miami the city that keeps the roof blazin

Chorus:

Party in the city where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
Bienvenidos a Miami
Bouncin in the club where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm goin to Miami
Welcome to Miami

Verse 2:

Yo I heard the rainstorms ain't nothin to mess with
But I can't feel a drip on the strip, it's a trip
Ladies half-dressed, fully equipped
And they be screamin out, (Will we loved your last hit)
So I'm thinkin I'ma scoot me somethin hot
In this salsa-merengue melting pot
Hottest club in the city, and it's right on the beach
Temperature get to ya, it's about to reach
Five-hundred degrees
In the carribean seas, with the hot mommies
Screamin (Ay pappi)
Everytime I come to town, they be spottin me
In the drop Bentley, ain't no stoppin me
So, cash in your dough
We flow to this fashion show
Pound for pound anywhere you go
Yo, ain't no city in the world like this
An if you ask how I know I gotsta plead the fifth

Chorus

Verse 3:

Don't get me wrong, Shytown got it goin on
An New York is the city that we know don't sleep
An we all know that L.A. and Philly stay jiggy
But on the sneak, Miami bringin heat for real
Y'all don't understand
I never seen so many Dominican women with cinnamon tans
Mira, this is the plan
Take a walk on the beach, draw a heart in the sand
Gimmie your hand
Damn, you look sexy
Let's go to my yacht, in the West Keys
Ride my jetskis, loungin in the palm trees
Cause you gotta have cheese for the summerhouse piece on southbeach
Water so clear, you can see to the bottom
Hundred-thousand dollar cars, evr'ybody got em
Ain't no surprise in the club to see Sly Stallone
Miami, my second home

Chorus x2

party in the city where the heat is on

Actually, I think the draw of Richard is ok. It could have been worse.

Sad he has to face the winner of Serra-Simon in the 2nd round though. As for Ancic he lost to him in Cincy last year but he served only 2nd balls cos he was injured and still it was close. As for Davydenko or Baghdatis in the fourth... at least it's not Federer. ;)

Let's just keep supporting him (especially during the clay court season) and hope for the best. And even if his ranking falls really far, we should all still stand by him no matter what. (I should think about doing motivational speaking  )

Richard
:yeah: absolutely, true fans wouldn't desert him just cos he's had a bad start to the year! it's up to us to still support him and see him through the bad times as well as the good! :) Allez for the clay season Richie! :bounce:

I think Guy probably choose Seb since he's more consistent. Richard has better chance to play since Paulo doesn't get along with Russia very well

Hope Richard will play + win his matches so he could get his confidence back, and play well for the rest of the season! C'mon Richard!!!!! :rocker2:

Hi there :wavey:
I am just back from Miami and of course I am really disappointed  by what happened with Richard's loss.
I just want to say that the loss against Serra can be really disappointing but it was not that bad.
Florent played incredible tennis and I don't want to find excuses to Richard but honestly Florent won this match and it's not Richard who lost it.
Richard started the match very slowly and didn't move well so he got broken at the very beginning. Florent was playing very fast and hitting great winners down the lines. Then Richard managed to break back and started to play better (with beautiful winners as usual) Then the tie-break was very tight Richard broke a string at 5all :banghead: and Serra won the first set. Then the play was suspended because of the darkness and the match restarted on court 1 about one hour later. Again, Richard was not moving well at the beginning and got broken early. Then he tried to break back but Serra was serving incredibly well. (it was so frustrating...).

Richard was very irritated and couldn't do anything but again... believe me... it's not such a bad loss. Serra played like a top 20.

We have to keep being positive for Richard. He is still very young... I am sure the confidence will be back.

And let's hope the best for the clay season.

Pressure is on Gasquet in Davis Cup tie, says Safin

PAU, France, April 6 (Reuters) - Russia's Marat Safin says France's number one Richard Gasquet is the one under pressure going into their Davis Cup quarter-final tie.

Former world number one Safin, who returned from a seven-month injury layoff in February, has dropped to 50th in the ATP rankings while teenager Gasquet has moved up to 16th.

"I'm not sure Marat is serene about playing against Richard," France captain Guy Forget told reporters after Safin was drawn to play 19-year-old Gasquet in Friday's first singles rubber.

"I don't know why I would not be serene," Safin replied.

"I've beaten him twice already. He is the one to be nervous, I'm not. And I'm more experienced than he is," the 2005 Australian Open champion added.

In 2002, Safin beat Gasquet 6-4 6-1 in the Monte Carlo Masters Series' second round and knocked him out 6-4 7-6 in the first round in Lyon.

Safin, who has not played Davis Cup since 2005's first round, said he was even "ready to play three games" against France.

The Russians beat France 3-2 in a memorable 2002 final in Paris to win their first Davis Cup title and defeated them again by the same score in last year's quarter-finals in Moscow.

France have won the four Davis Cup ties they have played in Pau. This weekend's tie will be played indoors on a quick surface.

"You will have the pressure!"
"No, I won't! But you will!"
"No..." :rolls:

Does it really matter? Both can play well on clay and on fast surfaces. If the surface is of any influence at all, it might disfavour Davydenko and maybe also help the French doubles team, but I am not sure about that either.
