For Immediate Release

ANDRE AGASSI TO PLAY AAMI CLASSIC

ANDRE AGASSI (USA - ranked 7) will begin his 2006 year as he has on eight other occasions - by playing the newly-named AAMI Classic at Kooyong (January 11-14).

Tournament Director, Colin Stubs, received the welcome confirmation yesterday from the office of Perry Rogers, Andre's manager. "We at Kooyong, along with thousands of Andre's adoring fans, will be thrilled to see him in action again on the historic centre court next January. It will be business as usual for him".

Agassi, who has a singles career record of 860-266, won in Los Angeles this year and reached the final of the US Open where he lost to Roger Federer. He made the semi-finals in Dubai and in ATP Masters Series tournaments in Rome and Miami. He reached the quarters at the Australian Open and in Houston, San Jose and the ATP Masters Series event in Indian Wells.

He joins a star-studded field at Kooyong - world no. 1 ROGER FEDERER (SUI), ANDY RODDICK (USA - 3), recent Tennis Masters Cup winner DAVID NALBANDIAN (ARG - 6), GUILLERMO CORIA (ARG - 8), IVAN LJUBICIC (CRO - 9) and TOMMY HAAS (GER - 44). One spot remains open and an announcement is expected next week.

The four-day AAMI Classic is shaping up to be the most successful staged at Kooyong. A third set of corporate facilities is being created to cope with the unprecedented demand and ticket sales to date are far in excess of expectations.

The Seven Network will televise the final live on Saturday, January 14, at 3.00 pm. The play-off for 3rd and 4th spot will begin at 12.30 pm. Play will begin at 11.00 am on the other three days (Jan. 11-13).

Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster on 1300 136122.

Last season had been seen by many as Agassi's last
Andre Agassi has ruled out speculation he was set for imminent retirement after revealing he will compete at next month's Kooyong Classic in Australia.

The 2005 season had been seen by many as the 35-year-old's last in the sport.

But he will instead make his ninth appearance at the invitational tournament from January 11-14 - his usual build-up to the Australian Open.

"We at Kooyong will be thrilled to see him in action again," said Kooyong tournament director Colin Stubbs.

"It will be business as usual for him."

Agassi, who turns 36 in April, will line up at the event with world number one Roger Federer, Andy Roddick and Masters Cup winner David Nalbandian among others.
