Denis Istomin get wild cart because he won the Asian championships and I think and hope Todd Reid will get one more! :worship:

Hopefully Robert Smeets gets a wildcard. Not sure who the French or Americans plan on nominating on this point.

Luczak should get a WC, but they might not give him one.

SwissMister1

I'll take a wild guess -

Flip
Guccione
Luczak
Smeets
Reid
Istomin
Llodra - possibly Tsonga if he is healthy
Jenkins

I'd be surprised if it's Jenkins from the US, but I suppose anything's possible. Pretty sure Fish won't be ready by then so it won't be him. Would be nice to see Vahaly get it, but the USTA doesn't seem to give him any love.

Denis Istomin get wild cart because he won the Asian championships :

he and his country CHEATED that wildcard from danai!
the linemans in the final was so biased.

For the American WC, going strickly by entry ranking, the 1st guy who wouldn't get in directly is Jeff Morrison but I don't see the USTA giving it to him (nor Vahaly, about 2 places behind). My money would be on Delic, Baker, or Jenkins.

I'd like to see the French one go to Gilles Simon, he's quite young but talented - qualified at Cincy this year and made it to the 2nd round MD.

12-05-2005, 06:17 PM
I doubt Delic, since they blew him off for a US Open wildcard. Probably Baker or Jenkins since they are younger and both were born in US.

SwissMister1
12-05-2005, 08:38 PM
I looked up Delic's stats, he is older than I thought he was - born in '82 - I thought he was around 20. From what I've seen of Jenkins and Baker, Scoville seems to have more potential, but who knows - I just hope it won't be Donald Young who gets it.

Simon is a good choice as well, forgot to mention him...

Australian Open Training Camp kicks off at Melbourne Park
December 7, 2005

Over 30 top Australian players gathered at Melbourne Park today for the beginning of the Australian Open Training Camp.

Over the next week, they will be put through a gruelling training schedule under a hot Melbourne sun in preparation for a bumper summer of tennis on The Road to the Australian Open.

Some have direct entry into tournaments like the Moorilla Hobart International and the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts, while others will have to fight for the right to compete in the qualifying events and main draws.

During the next week, these players will train with some of the country's best coaches including National High Performance Academy coaches Paul Kilderry, John McCurdy, Richard Fromberg and Head Coach Jason Stoltenberg.

Joining the camp are:

Men: Andrew Coelho, Luke Bourgeois, Andrew Derer, Raphael Durek, Adam Feeney, Chris Guccione, Nathan Healey, Stephen Huss, Alun Jones, Rameez Junaid, Sadik Kadir, Joel Kerley, Marc Kimmich, Nick Lindahl, Shannon Nettle, Joseph Sirianni, Robert Smeets.

Women: Monique Adamczak, Cassandra Barr, Lauren Breadmore, Holly Cao, Casey Dellacqua, Daniella Dominikovic, Jelena Dokic, Emily Hewson, Christina Horiatopoulos, Olivia Lukaszewicz, Shayna McDowell, Trudi Musgrave, Beti Sekulovski, Adriana Szili, Cindy Watson, Tiffany Welford, Christina Wheeler.

*Peter Luczak, Todd Reid, Samantha Stosur and Nicole Pratt will be joining the camp from Monday 12 December.

The camp will culminate in a play-off tournament for a coveted Australian Open main draw wildcard from December 16-19.

"It's nice to practise in a team," said former world No.4 Jelena Dokic, who has returned to Australia to play for the country she grew up in and represented from 1999 in Fed Cup.

"It's tougher practice and you get to practise with a lot of different people. It's a really good system."

Dokic said it would be difficult to win the Australian Open Wildcard Play-Off, acknowledging that many of her fellow Aussies had an equal chance.

"Everyone's out here to win the wildcard. I'm not too concerned about that. I have some practising to do before then."

I would think that either Baker or Jenkins would get the US wildcard. Llodra has a good chance of getting the French wilcard, although as someone said, I would like Gilles Simon to get it.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/sfl-brickten11dec11,0,622386.column?coll=sfla-sports-colThe USTA and Tennis Australia have an agreement to give one wild card to each other at their Grand Slams. Mark Philippoussis took Australia's into the U.S. Open this year, but the USTA is holding an eight-man knockout tournament this week to determine who gets the wild card into the Aussie Open with no players allowed to enter who are over 23. I like this concept. ... Highest ranked 23 & under Americans (without direct entry):
Amer Delic
Rajeev Ram
Brian Baker
Alex Bogomolov Jr.
Todd Widom
Scoville Jenkins
Wayne Odesnik
Travis Rettenmaier
Phillip Simmonds
Eric Nunez
Brendan Evans
Scott Oudsema

The field for the USTA playoff has been set: Delic, Ram, Fruttero, Bogie, Jenkins and Widom. Any one of those guys would probably be able to make good use of a wildcard, with a good draw. I'll let you know if I hear anymore.

Aussie WC playoff final

Marc Kimmich def Andrew Coelho 6-3 6-3 3-6 6-3

Both players didnt play their best, but Marc's experience on the big points won in the end. Andrew had many chances to break but couldnt take them, and Marc was solid on the big points. Andrew gave up his place in the junior playoffs to have this result, so hopefully he will get a WC too. He deserves one, as I'm sure he would have won the junior playoff if he'd chosen to play it.
