This kind of polls are difficult... I voted Nalbandian, because I think that he is capable of doing it soon with the right draw and motivation.... But IMO, Gasquet and (probably because I like his tennis a lot) Berdych have a huge chance of winning Slam titles too, maybe in a couple of years.... I donīt know....
Ancic might do it too, but I`m not so sure about him...

Berdych

Usually this kind of poll ends up having a really subjective result.

Yeah..., I agree.
As a tennis fan is really difficult, at least for me, to speculate about who might win his first Slam. I really canīt be totally objective about it, itīs more about what I wish.

I voted for Nalbandian.

Nalbandian because he can play on all surfaces.

After Nalbandian I would say Gasquet; he has a complete game and can play on any surface.

Nalbandian will never win a grand slam.

Gonzo, Ferrer, Ljubicic and Davydenko also do not have what it takes to win a slam.

Ancic is the Philippoussis for his generation - lots of talent, but no brain. He won't win a slam.

Puerta will be banned for doping soon enough (and good riddance to that scum).

It will either be Gasquet or Berdych first. I'm still confident that Coria will one day win RG but this won't occur for at least another couple of years.

Definitely Davydenko! I love all the players listed above but he is arguably the best all around player out of all them.

But then again, Nalby and Coria will surely win the French... the only question is when...

Nalbandian...he's really hot these days. Next would be Gasquet but probably in a year or two.

None of these players are ready to win a GS, despite Nalbandian's positive result from Shanghai, I believe it was sort of a fluke. Even if he were to beat Roger on another occasion, he is far too mentally weak and simply doesn't have big enough weapons to realistically compete for any slam.

Please do not bring up Wimbledon, that was during about the weakest age and year of tennis being played. I don't think anyone aside from a few Aussies from "down under" and Argentines cared for that "match", if that's what you want to call it.

However, if I had a pistol pointed to my head and was forced to make a pick I'd say: Mario Ancic.

His biggest chance is at Wimbledon, if Roger gets injured or he plays the match of his life against Roger (he was the last player to defeat Rog on grass) then I'd say he has a fair chance at winning the title, let's face it, Wimbledon is 3 horse race.

Mr. Federer
Andy Roddick
Hewitt

If Ancic shows up with confidence in his game and can build momentum, he could pose problems, by the very nature of his game (s&v) he applies constant pressure, so there you have it.

Berdych, he seems to have the necessary guts, even if some other players have more talent and versatility.

I voted for Gasquet , ( it could also be Coria in Roland Garros as long as Federer is in the other part of the draw and is defeated before facing Coria )

I voted for Berdych - it takes more than talent to win a Slam - you need fitness, resiliance, mental strengh and a great fighting spirit - he has all of them and good luck to him :)

A guy who's third year law school and #22 in the world at the same time has no brain?? :yeah:

I think it's unlikely any of these guys will win a slam this year, although Ancic has the best chance.

Nalbandian is good on all surfaces but which slam to people think he'll win? Surely not Roland Garros or Wimbledon - there are too many clay/grass experts he has to beat. The US Open? The Australian Open? There's just too much competition at these slams with Agassi, Federer, Hewitt, Roddick and possibly Nadal and Safin.

As for Gasquet, do people really think he's ready? His fitness alone will be a problem but what about his consistency? If he does become the first to win his first major, it won't be this year.

Coria and Ljubicic need to see sports phsychologists before they can be considered grand slam contenders. Both have the ability, they just need to STOP CHOKING. And Ljubicic needs to figure out why he doesn't win matches on grass. His game is good for it.

Berdych is maybe ready to win slams but he won't this year. His best surfaces are probably similar to Marat's and at these slams (AO and RG) there's just too much competition. Maybe he could win the US Open but it's too early to say.

I like Nalbandian too very much, and he's extremely talented but the fact that he won Masters doesn't mean that now emediately he'll start winning GS

give Ancic more credit please, he will come good
as for Nalbandian &berydech have the more talent & all court game & more importantly what it takes to win a 2 week event
Gasquet is maybe the most talented of the bunch _ one capable of rivaling both Nadal & Federer on top

Gasquet. But not for a while. maybe Gasquet will win US Open '07. Till then no new slam winners. Maybe if Gonzo went on a hot streak he could win one but I doubt it

it's hard to choose ... but anyway my vote went to Nalby...
after what he did in the TMC... i think he is capable of much more..
i think that he's got so much more to give so he is the most likely to claim a slam first

my dearest friend from slovakia! why do you think i hate him?? thats not true, i always only talk about his tennis skills! i think there are a lot of better tennis players as ferrer. so no hard feelings, no hard feelings at all... :)

Have you seen his power smash? He literally sets the ball on fire. If he is healthy this year, he should have no problem collecting the grand slam of 2006.

Ancic chokes so bad I can't possibly see why people are voting that he'll be the next new GS winner.

I voted for Nalbandian, though he's good on all surfaces I think his best shot next year is the AO as long as both Safin and Federer are out of sorts or absent.

Ferrer really wants to win RG, don't be so quick to discount him. It's definitely the Slam with unexpected results and I definitely wouldn't bet against him if he was playing that final Sunday.

Gasquet, not in 2006, but he'll be the first from that group and probably the only one.
