Does anyone know anything about the return date of Martin Verkerk.

I've heard the Escude plans to return in February.

Not for quite some time thank you!!! He was on tv last week saying the AO would be too soon.

Sjeng Schalken is busy practicing. He was on tv a few weeks ago and he said that he will only return if he's able to give 100% or more. I hope Sjeng does return, he's a nice guy :)

You mean Sjeng might never return?

I had no idea his injuries were so serious.

You mean Sjeng might never return?

I had no idea his injuries were so serious.Well he just doesn't feel he's able to compete on top level...also I think all his rankingpoints are gone, so he has to start all over again. On his website he says: he's been working for 3 months now. He could be back in a month's time, but it could also be April....:awww:

He's been trying for 18 months now....and mentally he's also tired. So he has to work on his mental health as well.

it's not that he doesn't want to....he just won't go on court if he knows he'll be off court again within 30 minutes or so....

About Escudé, in L'équipe of today, they say that he trains 3 hours a day. He is going to Val Thorens, in the Alps, to train on his fitness with the other french players (Mathieu, Gasquet...) And he will be able to serve within about 2 weeks.

News about Sjeng Schalken (bad news unfortunately :awww: ):

http://teletekst.nos.nl/tekst/657-01.html

**Sjeng Schalken zal de komende maanden
geen wedstrijden spelen.Bij de nummer
230 van de wereld is een lichte hernia
geconstateerd.Hij hoeft niet onder het
mes,hij mag ook trainen, maar het spelen
van wedstrijden is hem afgeraden.

Schalken ontbreekt in ieder geval in
januari op de Australian Open en heeft
zich afgemeld voor het Davis Cup-duel
Nederland-Rusland in februari.

Vanwege een achillespees-blessure kwam
Schalken de afgelopen maanden niet in
actie."Ik ben blij dat ik nu weet wat
ik mankeer",zei hij."Maar ik baal dat
ik nu weer door een sluipmoordenaar te
grazen ben genomen."Een jaar geleden
kampte hij met de ziekte van Pfeiffer.

Translation:

Sjeng Schalken won't play any matches in the next few months. He's been diagnosed with a slight hernia (I assume they mean a lumbar disc herniation here). No operation is needed, he's allowed to keep training, but he's been adviced not to play any matches.

Schalken will miss the Australian open in January and he also pulled out of the Davis match Netherlands-Russia in February.

Schalken was out of action because of a achillestendon injury in the past few months. "I'm glad I know what's wrong with me now", he said. "However, it feels very bad that i've been surprised by another hidden problem now". One year ago he had Mononucleosis.

I'm especially missing Escudé and Verkerk. Escudé sounds as if he would be finally on a good comeback trip again from what I have followed the last few months. Damn, I just hope that his injuries for the rest of his career are over. I can hardly wait to see him playing again :D A big :woohoo: :bigclap: to his exciting style of play! :yeah:

Escude played his last match in Canada Open 2004 before having a shoulder injury that couldn't let him serve. He started again training in August 2005 but injured himself in training at a tight.

He now hopes to play again at Marseille ATP in 2006.

He has no ranking, no sponsors and he had to divorce in these difficult times.

Other players: Julien Varlet and Julien Boutter definitely retire from professionnal (and probably national) tennis

PimPim will try to make a comeback to the clay court season, in best case to Key Biscaine

Verkerk has taken a WC for qualies in Auckland and is thinking of playing the Aus Open with his protected ranking. I am not sure if it's a good idea, though he hasn't played an event since the Hilversum challenger in July 2004.

I mean I don't joke about players getting injured or coming back from injuries even if it's Roddick or Agassi, so I am not joking about this either, but whether he plays or not is still doubtful.

. well, that's (a small) part of it...it's more his behaviour on and off court....the guy walks around here as if he's THE best player we ever had here....just cause he got 2 lucky escapes at RG 2003 (Horna & Moya). He keeps on bragging and bragging....

and I know some stuff about his personal life that make him even more yuck to me than I already thought he was.... :fiery:

verkerek outplayed moya and coria in pariz that year
you can all bash him on personal basis, or playing style, but you can´t take away the effort and result
to repeat that kind of results is another thing, and that unability makes him just a good player, not a great one
as for personal stuff, i don´t give a s... about that when i talk about someones tennis skills
tough i agree he escaped against horna, and even spadea, but he deserved the final
that is my opinion

Ok, there was no lucky escape against Moya, there was one against Horna, but not Moya.

In spite of this, so you don't like the facial expressions and his other antics? This is a lot clearer now.

. would you say 8-6 in the fifth set was a clear win then?! I watched that match and it could have gone Moya's way too. Carlos was fighting his ass off from 0-2 down... The way MV talks about it is as if he bageled Carlos 3 times.....   To me he just got lucky to win that one.....but thank God Ferrero was there to set things straight in the end!

Verkerk was good enough to win and wasn't passive as many other players would be in that particular situation. Never said it was a clear win, and you are not the most objective person when it comes to discussing a match between someone you loathe and someone you like. If Moya was serving for the match, and Verkerk got a lucky let cord match point down or Moya got hooked on a line call, then there would be something. How was it that MV was lucky?

Keep this up you will make me fan of Martin :)
