players who will "vanish" in 2006

here's what i think:

most likely:
moya - need i say more?
kuerten - really wasn't able to recover from injury
puerta - future in peril depending on doping allegations
davydenko - i wouldn't be surprised if 2005 was just a fluke
fish, dent, philippoussis - they'll fade out further

slight possibility:
ljubicic - might fade out for a time like nalbandian because he can't seem to bring it during big matches. might affect his confidence.

questionable:
nalbandian - we'll see if his tmc win will finally make him a consistent title contender

Fair assessments.

I hope Davydenko ends up not being another Rainer Schuettler. That would be a shame.

"vanish"? you mean players being abducted by aliens??

Alex Popp. If he hasn't already.
At 29, you have to wonder whether he'd go back for some challenger events, or just move on to something else. :sad:

Ferrer (will drop out of the top 30)
Contrary to megadeth, I actually believe that Moya will make a comeback.

Moya is done. i never seen a player that will run around a backhand so much. even gets out of position for next shot, just so he does not have to hit a backhand.

I agree about everybody except Ljubicic and Nalbandian.

Henman and Moyá, I am afraid. But both are too great players just to vanish, so I wish them a career end in style.

Niti, I'm your friend too. :lol: He has to make a phenomenal comeback. But will he succeed? :shrug: Let's pray to Lord Carlos. http://rangerboard.com/images/smilies/eusa_pray.gif

And I hope Kolya will not be another Schuettler.
But on who'll vanish - Kuerten, Coria, Nalbandian (wishful thinking).

Sjeng Schalken will go further down the road.
Karol Kucera :crying2: will be gone :(
Marat Safin after the Australian Open, but will have some weird resurrection again.

Moyá, F. Lopez, Mirnyi, Hanescu, Henman, Rusedski, Chela, Serra will all drop out of the Top 50.

If both are fit, I fail to see how neither can at least improve on their current rankings next year.

Moya can come back; Puerta is a top 30 player if he is still allowed to play; Davydenko is a top 20 player; Dent will remain in the top 40; Ljubicic is a top 30 player; Nalbandian is top 10 when fit.

I agree that Kuerten and Flip are finished; Fish is capable of getting back into the top 100 if he gets back to full fitness.

Predictions y.e. 2006:

moya - depends on shoulder; if ok 10-20 otherwise 30-40.
kuerten - struggle to reach top 100 because of body.
puerta - if allowed to play 10-20.
davydenko - 10-20
fish (20-30 depends on left wrist), dent (20-30), philippoussis - injuries keep him outside top 100.

slight possibility:
ljubicic - steady performer 9.

questionable:
nalbandian - 5 if he has changed mentally.

I think Nadal will be to tired to have a similar season.

*Ljubica*
11-25-2005, 12:07 PM
Sadly I think this will be the last year for Henman - even if he manages to complete the entire year injury-free - I see him out of the Top 50 :sad:

I think Ljubicic will drop (it would be difficult to repeat his sucesses this year I think, and he's bound to be tired and a little "flat" at the start of 2006) - but he's still a solid Top 30 player in my opinion.

I agree that Kuerten and Mark P. will vanish, and Zabaleta (currently without a coach and recovering from injury) may have trouble getting back into the higher echelons of the game and could well consider retirement if things don't improve.

I also think that Coria will drop out of the Top 10 - and, no - that's not just wishful thinking on my part - I honestly think he has serious issues to address (the serve problem and the nerves fr example), before he has any chance of getting back to his 2003 form.

Mirnyi will disappear out of the Top 50 I think - and also Rusedski, who is due to become a Father for the first time in the New Year ad will obviously have other priorities at this stage in his tennis career.

I fear that Max Mirnyi will fall out of the 50. :scared: :bigcry: He totally lost his form during the second half of the season and he has lots of points to defend in the first part of 2006. It would be great if he could win at least one match at the Australien Open for a change, but I wouldn´t count on it.

Scud will always get WCs, so he will perhaps win the odd match and keep edging closer to top 100.....

Koubek may fall off the radar, and also Novak.

Scud and Henman

novak, chela, carlsen, zib. kuerten :sad: :sad:

moya, henman if they are not 100% fit.

i don't think davydenko and ljubicic will vanish in 2006. kolya is too young to do a schüttler already and ljubo is just a good player. they may fall slightly in the rankings, but i see them in the top15 at the end of the year.

It's funny to see how much you hate Argentine players... You must not be very happy with the master's results.

Especially if you are a Fernando Gonzalez's fan ...

i think Coria losing the RG final has taken a lot of wind from his sails
he seems at time unsure & almost losing confidence which isnt like him. this is part of his strength. he needs to beleive he can win against the new top claycourts & challenge or else it will be difficult. thou nadal as been the best claycourters this year

it will be almost impossible for Ljubicic not to say in top 10 with all the PTS he can pick up at GS and like 5 TMS.

Among the top 20 year end entry ranking , now i'm gonna make a prediction on which of those players within a year ( December 2006 ) will be in a worse position than their current ranking . ( In brackets their current position )

* Roddick (3)
* Davydenko (5)
* Agassi (7)
* Ljubicic ( 9 )
* Puerta ( 12 )
* Johansson ( 14 )
* Ferrer ( 15 )
* Hrbaty ( 19 )

Let's see how many i will guess right

it will be almost impossible for Ljubicic not to say in top 10 with all the PTS he can pick up at GS and like 5 TMS.

Owing to accumulating so many points at the year end he is almost guaranteed to have high entry ranking until after the US Open. This should give him easier draws in the early rounds.

Most people are naming players whose rankings will slip, but what about the players that will truly VANISH. (Fall out of the top 100)

Carlos was playing in the Masters Series this time last year. He can pull it back together. He's sex on a stick.

Didn't his wife have a kid last year? Maybe that's why he's not playing well. He's distracted.

No, I think Davydenko's in for the long haul. He hits the ball very hard and flat from either wing; I think he needs to work on his volley more.

IMO Agassi and Henman (both retiring)
Hmmm, I'm not sure about Henman; he still has few years left. And Agassi seems insistent on playing for atleast another year or two.

Andre won't "vanish" - he knows how to keep going. Tim, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have the determination to stay at the top while he's in his 30s.

I predict Henman, Puerta and Gaudio will "vanish" this year. I think Philippoussis, El Aynaoui and Kuerten have already vanished unfortunately.

As much as I hate to say it (and hope it doesn't come true) Safin will fall out of the Top 50 if he's unable to compete at the AO.

I have serious doubts about Coria and Puerta staying even in the Top 20, poor showings at TMC is the least of their troubles.

I agree Mirnyi and Rusedski may fall out of the Top 100, along with Spadea, Pavel, Goldstein, Chela, and Calleri. :eek:

There is no way Ferrer is going to vanish. He's 23, extremely fit, and improved his game immensely in 2005. He'll crack into the Top 10 sometime next year.

Philippoussis was looking very dangerous for a lot of the match when Safin took him out of Wimbledon. He'd have scared the life out of most players. If he's healthy, then we might see something there. That's obviously a big "if" though.

Sorry to dissappoint you Rosie but I can confirm that Mariano is no longer recovering from injury and is definitely not considering retirement in 2006, he is very much looking forward to the 2006 season - 2005 was a near-complete write-off and 2006 will only get better - and the only way he will dissappear in 2006 is if the Aliens get him - I am surprised you are unaware of this.

I have my information from a VERY reliable source!

Mariano fans.... he is not dissappearing in 2006 :)

Pleased to hear he is now fully recovered - as you will see my original post was made a while ago while he was still undergoing treatment. I know he played in an exhibition this weekend and I wish him all the best for a successful 2006. As I am not a particular fan I tend not to keep up with news on him or discuss him that often.

Vinnie says he will be in the top 10 in 2006!!! :worship: So, THERE!!

I think Henman will be out of the top 100 before the French; Moya will be out of the top 100 before the summer is over. Both will retire. On the other hand, Mark Poo will actually get into the top 20 after working very hard. I think he's determined to show everybody that he's a very good player. He has a chance at Wimbledon.

I don't know how Nadel can defend all those titles from this year. He's good but his "surprise" element will be gone and he'll have to improve several things in his game in order to stay in the top 5. I think he will stay in the top 5 but, perhaps not #2. Hopefully, Andy Roddick will get himself together and play well next year (not that he didn't play well in 2005, he did).
