Which of these players will be IN the top 10 at the end of 2006 [Archive]

The list is based mostly on 11-20 the most likely group to enter the top ten. I think Marat Safin and Richard Gasquet have the best chance based on their ability. Please give details of other potentials.

Safin can easily climb back to top 10 if he is fully recovered from his knee injury. He haven't played since August.

gasquet is most likely to get into top10,
and safin, but all depends on his health

i think ginepri and berdych have a great chance as well

I would be surprised if Gasquet didn't make it.
Possibly Berdych or Gonzalez as well.

Safin has certainly the ability to comeback, but I'm not sure if his knee injury will let him do it.

I think Gonzalez will probably reach the top 10 sometime next year, but I don't know if he'll be able to defend all of his points in the 2nd semester in order to finish the year as a top 10.

Unless some tragedy (i.e. injury) takes place, Gasquet will certainly end next year as a top 10.

I love your dream, mando but being a Guga fan, I learned to not setting a high expectation and I really don't think he will be in top 10 even he managed to play a whole season. On top, he will probably play most on clay.

Ferrer has virtually no points to defend until Indian Wells...all first round losses until Viña del Mar (SF), a few more 1st/2nd round losses after that. He could foreseeably break into the Top 10 before Miami because he's improved so much in the last year.

But the poll is for end of 2006. I really don't think Ferrer will defend his points in 2005.

He had a lot of 1st round losses this year, like 12 or something. Not to mention he was injured during the grass season.

Also, Ferrer has improved his ranking every year he's been on tour. So 15 to 10 doesn't seem so impossible to me considering he went from like 49 at the beginning of this year to end at 15.

Safin and Gasquet both failed to reach the top 10, but have for the 2nd half of 2006 rapidly accended the rankings:

Safin from 104 in August to around 25 at year end.
Gasquet from 66 in June to around 20 at year end.

Blake and Gonzalez did make the top 10.

Hard to call - so many talented players could make it. In the mix I'd put Berdych, Safin (who's been there before of course), Gasquet, Gonzalez not forgetting the Young Guns, Murray and Djokovic.

Gasquet took time to recover from his injury (and got another one which destroyed his clay season), but has played top 10 the last 5 months (in fact, he's fifth on points scored the last 5 months behind Fed, Roddick, Gonzo and Davydenko)

He would easily have been top10 without his injuries.
