Thanks a lot!!!

It's really nice to see 2 brazilians getting a direct acceptance in an ATP level tournament. Seems that they're finally planning more seriously their respective schedules. They have made an excellent decision chosing Chennai instead of the São Paulo challenger.

GO Marcos and Ricardo!! :D

Ricardo and Marcos! Mello needs to reach semifinal to defend points of his title in Sao Paulo this year, but he made a good choice! Marcos has a opened first half of year. He doesn't have many points to save, so he will hold or improve his ranking position.
Go Brazil! (and good luck to Rafa, Radek, Paradorn, Lee, Tomas and Rainer)

Nadal has withdrawn from Chennai and will be replaced by Ivan Ljubicic as a WC.

pomnok
12-26-2005, 04:19 PM
I believe that Paradorn will stop Ljubicic, because Paradorn always play well in this tournament. He reached Final match 4 times in rows. Ljubicic had ever defeat Paradorn for 3 times but he must lost one set to Paradorn everytime while he lost to Paradorn 2 times in straight set.

The winner of Srichaphan VS Ljubicic (semifinal?) probably take the title.

people in chennai love Ljubicic, we were all cheering for him during the davis cup so although i am disappointed i will not be able to see nadal, ljubicic is a great replacement for me and all my friends

I have full week pass, also player access as well through my father's work, so will take many pictures and try and post them here :)

However I hope you do not forget to cheer Paradorn also at least he is a top Asian player in this tournament. I hope he will take this title after he has been the monk in tample for one week.

Maybe my Gilles Muller can stomp the plans of Ljubicic and Paradorn! He needs a title under his belt and he's going to get it! Maybe this is his lucky tournament! Go Gilles Muller! But best of luck to the other players too!

Go Gilles Muller!!!!!!!!

Other Wild Cards to Prakash Amritraj and Vishaal Uppal.

Oh man, those are two terrible choices for wildcards. I mean Prakash isn't bad, but Vishaal Uppal?! I think they should have given out the wildcards to Rohan Bopanna or Harsh Mankad. Maybe they think that Harsh and Rohan are good enough to qualify on their own, in that case, Prakash should be able to as well. If they wanted to give wildcards to promising young talents, then they could have considered Karan Rastogi or Rupesh Roy. I'm guessing that Uppal is from Madras, that may be the reason he got the wildcard.

But yeah, I think this tournament is going to come down to Radek Stepanek versus Ivan Ljubicic. I really don't see Moya or Paradorn being able to stop either one of them. Paradorn has been over agressive and sloppy with his play lately (or the whole last year), while Moya has had recurring injuries and his all forehand game has been figured out by the majority of the tour.

I seriously hope that at least two other Indians can qualify or an Anglo-Indian, like Arvind Parmar or Rajeev Ram. I think some good prospects with a decent chance of qualifying are:
-Rohan Bopanna : Big serving game and huge forehand ,just way too erratic. He played Thomas Johansson in three tight sets during Davis Cup on grass, and held set points in two of the sets. The final score was 7-6 7-6 7-6.
-Sanam Singh : Finished the year in fashion by winning India F8 and defeating some decent plays along the way. He's only 17, so he seems like a bright prospect and has some confidence going into Chennai.
-Harsh Mankad : He probably has the best chance to qualify out of all the Indians, he's got a fairly well rounded game and has shown that he can be a consistent quarterfinalist on the chalenger circuit, so qualifying shouldn't be all that tough.

I Agree. Actually Vishal Uppal won the WC because he won National grass court tennis championship. He beat R Boppanna 76 76.Thats the reason he got WC to this tournament.(IMO Boppana and Mankad would have been my choice of WC).
