but there's no way that the AO SF Safin VS Federer could be topped. One of the greatest matches I've ever seen, if not the greatest.

One of the best ever matches i have seen

We've really been spoilt this year. So many to choose from. Any other year, the Coria-Nadal match might have won or the Federer-Nadal match. Nalbandian's win was a classic.

But Federer v Safin was an epic encounter. Possibly the best match of the decade.

There were some really good matches played this year, but I think the best match of 2005 was Federer vs. Safin at the Australian Open. That was an instant classic. The Nadal-Coria match was excellent too though.

safin def an in-form fed, 1st class all the way. IMO this match stands alone.

2nd fav (perhaps i am biased); an ailing hewitt defeating nalbandian 10-8 in the 5th had me struggling to get to sleep, my heart was still racing the next day.

it is hard for me to rank the rest, they all ruled in their own way

I have to say I LOVED the Hewitt-Nalbandian AO QF match:yeah:!
