Happy Birthday Xavier

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

07-21-2002, 10:46 AM
Xavier is 7th seed in LA and faces a qualifier in the first round! He's in the same quarter as Roddick.

Happy Birthday and good luck in LA! :bounce: :bounce:

07-21-2002, 01:20 PM
Good luck in LA, Xavier :bounce:

07-24-2002, 09:25 AM
Xavier is in the second round! He beat Draper in two! :D
Good news: Schalken and Haas are out in his half! So if he can put Roddick aside he'll have a good chance to get far! :)
Altough he has to beat Dent first!

Gooooo Xavier!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

07-24-2002, 09:50 AM
C'mon Xavier :bounce:

07-24-2002, 10:33 AM
Congratulations Xavier.
Good luck against Dent, it's possible, he beat Dent already.
Roddick will be very difficult, I don't think he has beaten him already, but if he's in good form everything is possible.

GO XAVIER :bounce: :bounce:

07-24-2002, 11:30 AM
Go Xavier!!!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

07-24-2002, 10:30 PM
Come on, Xavier!!!! :bounce: :D :bounce: :D :bounce:

07-25-2002, 03:46 PM
He beat Dent in three! 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 :)
He now faces Roddick in the quarters!

Come on, Xavier! You have to beat Roddick for me! (that's almost as good as beating Tim Henman :p I don't like that Roddick-kid!)

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

07-25-2002, 04:54 PM

07-25-2002, 06:00 PM
well first of all, a bit late but Happy Beleated Birthday XaXa! :bounce:

C'mon Malisse! :bounce: :bounce:

07-25-2002, 08:14 PM
C'mon XaXa :bounce:

beat Andy :bounce:

07-27-2002, 06:43 AM
Too bad you lost Xavier!!! It seems that you have some little problem against A-Rod

07-27-2002, 09:27 AM
Xavier!

07-27-2002, 11:52 AM
Another loss against Roddick , congratulations with your two wins and good luck in your next tournemant.
I hope you can beat Roddick someday :bounce:, maybe in a Grand Slam. :)

07-27-2002, 12:20 PM

Well I'm sure you will beat him one day

07-28-2002, 04:43 PM
Xavier will play The Master Series in Toronto this week

He faces 4th seed Jiri Novak in the first round  :(

C'mon Xavier :bounce:

07-29-2002, 09:47 AM
Good luck in Toronto, Xavier! :bounce:

I don't like that first round!

07-30-2002, 07:53 PM
Xavier lost against Novak.
But if you look at the ranking it is not a surprise. I think masters tournemants are the most difficult one to win a few matches. He wasn't even seeded at the tounemant because there are only 8 seeded players in a masters series tournemant and almost all the top players compete in them.

Better luck in your next tournemant Xavier.

07-31-2002, 07:27 PM
He always has really tough draws in the masters tournaments! :(
So he should keep improving his ranking, I guess, to be seeded himself and avoid the top-players in the early rounds! :p

Better luck next time, Xavier! :bounce: :bounce:

08-03-2002, 04:48 PM
Xavier plays in Cincinatti this week :D

He wil meet Boutter in the first round

C'mon Xavier :bounce: You can do it :bounce:

08-03-2002, 05:53 PM
Go Xavier! :bounce:
Better luck than last week! :bounce:

08-05-2002, 09:13 PM
Xavier def Boutter 6-7 7-6 6-4 :D

CONGRATS :bounce:

08-06-2002, 10:57 AM
Federer and Kafelnikov are out in his part of the draw!
He would have faced Federer in the second round, but now it will be Ljubicic! Still a tough match, though!

Good luck, Xavier! :bounce: :D :bounce:

08-07-2002, 09:16 PM

It was close though 4-6 7-6(9-7) 7-6(9-7)

Congrats :bounce:

08-07-2002, 09:19 PM
He will now play R.SCHUETTLER, his doublespartner

Schuettler already beat Kafelnikov and Gambill  so it will be very difficult!

But Xavier can do it :bounce:

08-08-2002, 09:26 AM
Xavier in Cincinatti

08-08-2002, 11:14 AM
Congrats! :D Good luck against Schuettler! :bounce:

In the updated rankings he's on 19 for the moment! :D

08-08-2002, 02:05 PM
Congrat Xavier with your two wins. The wins were both very close, but the fact he won them is very positive. I would be great if he could reach top-20.
Next match against Schuettler is difficult to predict. Schuettler loses a lot in the first round of tournemant but in some tournemant he's very difficult to beat. I will depend on the form of the day, otherwise it's difficult to say who the favorite is.

Good luck Xavier :bounce:

08-08-2002, 05:17 PM
He lost against Schuettler 4-6, 3-6!

08-09-2002, 01:43 PM
Better next time!

08-10-2002, 11:14 PM
Good luck in Indianapolis! :bounce:

He's 8th seed, has a bye in the first round and faces Dent/qualifier in the second! In the third he could face Schuettler again!

Go, Xavier! :D

08-14-2002, 11:58 AM
yahooooooooooooo go xavier, you can do it!!!

08-15-2002, 02:53 PM
Congrats for beating Dent! :D
Now take revenge on Schuettler! :bounce:

08-15-2002, 03:44 PM
c'mon xavy  you 're the best
(and lleyton :bounce::p)

08-16-2002, 08:53 AM
Damn, he lost to Schuettler again!

Is he still playing somewhere next week or is the USopen his next tournament?
Anyway, good luck, Xavier! :bounce:

08-22-2002, 11:12 PM
Good luck Xavier at US-Open. I hope you can repeat your result from last year (4th round) or even do better. Thank god he doesn't face Schuetller or Roddick.

:bounce: GO MALISSE :bounce:

08-23-2002, 11:16 AM
Good luck, Xavier! I'm sure you can do well here!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

08-23-2002, 11:20 AM

09-13-2002, 08:21 AM
Does anyone know what his next tournament is (after Daviscup)?

Good luck in the Daviscup, Xavier!!! :bounce :bounce:

10-28-2002, 03:43 PM
Congratulations Xavier with your first round victory against Koubeck.

Good luck in the second round against Federer. You can win if you serve very good. Go XAVIER :bounce:

10-28-2002, 05:05 PM
Well done, Xavier! :D He made a great comeback in this match! Acoording to BBCtext he was treated for a back injury, saved a breakpoint in the second set and then won 9 consecutive games to win the match! :)

Now Federer again! :( Xavier really has to stop his losing streak against him now, he really can beat him!!!

Come on, Xavier!!! The revenge will taste sweet!!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

10-29-2002, 04:48 PM
go go XaXa!!!!!!!!!!!

12-14-2002, 07:18 AM

At Wimbledon he wore this color in his ponytail! :p (he also had a black one and switched it every match)

I really hope he can win a title next year. It's not possible for a guy with his talent to stay 'titleless'! I mean: Schalken has about 9 titles, so why wouldn't Xavier be able to win some!!

Go, Xavier!!!! Don't prove me wrong! :D :bounce: :D

12-23-2002, 10:45 AM
indeed! think that too!! GOO XAXA :)

Xavier Malisse of Belgium returns a serve during his opening round match to Sebastien Grosjean of France at the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne, January 8, 2003. Wimbledon semi-finalist Malisse is in doubt for next week's Australian Open after suffering a calf injury.

Op teletekst van vrt spreken ze er van dat hij een behandeling gaat krijgen.
Dat ze met een katheter gaan kijken of zo?

Go malisse!!!:bounce:  :p

Xavier :D

01-17-2003, 04:50 PM
Ja, hoop ik ook :D
Lijkt me wel vreemd, hij zei toch dat hij alleen plaatselijk verdoofd werd? Kan hij meekijken wat er allemaal gebeurd :D

The new Belgiangirl
01-17-2003, 05:10 PM
Hopelijk komt het in orde! Maar hij lijkt er zelf vrij gerust in te zijn! :)
Hij zegt dat hij die problemen al lang heeft, maar nu gewoon meer opvallen dan wanneer hij 140ste stond.

Veel succes in uw derde ronde, Xavier!! Toon die Nalbandian is wie de finale had moeten spelen op Wimbledon! :p

01-17-2003, 06:41 PM

07-04-2003, 11:10 AM
Xavier still hasn't found a coach. Rohan Goetzke, ex-coach of Krajicek, was one of the candidates for him, but it is now sure that Goetzke will coach Mario Ancic in the near future.

Hopefully it won't take long to find another, cause I guess he needs it. :(

The new Belgiangirl
07-05-2003, 09:05 PM
I really hope he finds a good coach too! And as soon as possible!
But I think Xavier realizes that he needs a coach with him. I guess Steven Martens will still help him to find other candidates...

The new Belgiangirl
07-17-2003, 04:46 PM
Any news about his coach?

And what will be his next tournament? I don't find him on the commitment lists of Kitzbuhl/Indianapolis...

07-09-2004, 03:42 PM
I think he's supposed to play Mercedes-Benz cup in LA next week. He's on the player list. But I don't know if his back is good enough to play... I suppose he'll be fine by then.

What's eating Xavier this week? Or rather: what has he eaten?
Just when I have given up on him once again, he reaches his first semi in ages. I'd better not pay too much attention to it coz otherwise he'll lose.

10-08-2004, 09:32 PM
That's exactly why I don't give up on him anymore after a series of bad results. :p Belgian press always starts critizising Xavier when he's having bad results, but he's shown us lots of times now that he's always capable of coming back strong all of the sudden.
It looks like he's better when he's the underdog and people don't expect much from him. And when he gets a higher rank and he gets more attention he starts losing again. Very strange actually! :)

I hope he keeps doing good for a while now!
Come on, Xavier! 2 more wins please!! :bounce:

10-09-2004, 05:22 PM
Good luck Xavier. :bounce:

I agree with what you say BelgianGirl. The thing is, I used to hope he would play good more often after some good results but I'm affraid his results will remain as they are, up and down.

But at least he has good results sometimes, I think we should be happy about that. :)

10-09-2004, 07:07 PM
Xavier in the final. Come on, X-man, this HAS TO be your first tourny.
It's a pity his results are so up and down because with his talent, a bit more consistency his ranking would be a lot better.

Is there any television channel showing the final? With Kim and Justine out and no longer Eurosport on my TV, I'm hungry for some live tennis.

10-10-2004, 10:11 AM
Good luck Xavie :bounce:

10-10-2004, 05:18 PM
He lost again
Too bad, especially because it was against Soderling. I don't like that guy very much! :p

I really hope he finds himself a good coach again and will keep playing well for some time now! :bounce:

Hey Belgians or other Xavier-supporters!
Do you know why Malisse had to retire against Monfils?? I hope it's nothing serious, and that he'll be back in action soon.

10-15-2004, 07:53 PM
It was something with his leg. He started feeling pain after the 1st set. It doesn't seem too serious, he said he chose to retire after the 2nd because he didn't want to make things worse with a third set.
He also said it was more of fatigue than injury and he prefered to get fit for the next Masters Series tournament.

10-16-2004, 10:41 AM

01-11-2005, 09:46 PM
Why Xavier loose every time????? No he & oli won the doubles at adelaide lol He is mentally weak. (I don't know how to say this in english.....). i think when he will win his 1st tournament he will take again confidence in him :D

01-12-2005, 11:07 AM
He was injured now, maybe that's an excuse for him?
He already had pain in his right arm last week, so maybe it's better he can get some rest befor the AO now istead of keep playing with it. :)
This week he also had another injury I think...

01-12-2005, 07:43 PM
He is injured????Poor boy!!! :p
I hope it will be ok for AO!!!

01-16-2005, 05:17 PM
I saw him today on tv and he said everything turned out just fine!! let's just hope it's true

01-17-2005, 06:15 PM

Novak to Play Malisse for Final

Jiri Novak made quick work of Wesley Moodie, 6-3, 6-3, and Xavier Malisse reached his third Millennium International Tennis Championship final by beating Vince Spadea 7-5, 6-4, at the Delray Beach Tennis Center on Saturday. That sets up a Sunday singles final at 1:00 pm between No. 2 seed Novak and No. 3 seed Malisse with the winner taking home the first-place $52,000 check.

Novak is on a hot streak of sorts, having won 17 of his last 20 matches dating back to last season, including ATP titles in Toyko and Basel. In four matches this week, he has faced just seven break points‹and none in his last two matches with Kenneth Carlsen and Moodie.

Moodie, a 25-year-old South African playing in his first career semifinal, had his best shot at the No. 24-ranked Novak in the first set Saturday. In the eighth game, Novak failed to convert on seven break points but Moodie couldn't put him away. Novak broke him on the eighth chance and then served out the set.

"He played really well, made a lot of balls," said Moodie. "He made it tough for me. I was out of breath a lot."

³I was holding my serve very well," said Novak, who reached his 13th career final with the win. "It was pretty to play because he was serving so well. I was surprised he wanted to play with me from the baseline. My form is really great. I¹m just continuing the result from last season.²
Malisse, who has now reached seven finals in his career but is still looking for his first ATP title, broke Spadea six times in a match where 10 of the 22 games saw service breaks. The match was was delayed three times for 57 minutes due to scattered rain showers.

"It was pretty tough with the drizzle for both of us," said Malisse. "It was a strange match, up and down, lots of breaks in the second set. I just had a good fight tonight and luckily came out on top."

Spadea, the No. 1 seed and a resident of nearby Boca Raton, failed to make the final after playing Ricardo Mello for the title a year ago.

"Obviously I didn't play as well as I did last time," said Spadea. "I lost the match, lost my opportunities. I didn't serve well. I have to figure out how to hold serve next time."

With the win, Malisse became the winningest player in Millennium ITC history with a 15-5 record, passing Jan-Michael Gambill's 14 wins. Gambill lost in the second round here this week.

Novak and Malisse have met five times dating back to 1998, with Novak holding a 4-1 series edge. Malisse won their last meeting in 2004 at Wimbledon, but he is 0-3 vs. Novak on hard courts.

In doubles, the No. 1 seeded team of Simon Aselin and Todd Perry defeated Jeff Coetzee and Travis Parrott , 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-5 while Jordan Kerr and Jim Thomas defeated Rick Leach and Brian MacPhie 6-3 6-4 in the last match of the day. The doubles final follows the singles final on Sunday.

Malisse Claims First ATP Title

After six previous appearances in an ATP final, third seed Xavier Malisse claimed his first career title after defeating second seed Jiri Novak in straight sets to capture the 2005 Millennium International Tennis Championship in Delray Beach.

In what was his third appearance in the Delray Beach final from six appearances in the tournament, Malisse finally made the breakthrough with a 7-6(6) 6-2 victory, just his second against Novak in six meetings. Malisse lost the first final of his career against Novak in Mexico City on clay in 1998.

In the Delray Beach final, it was Novak who made the better start, breaking the Belgian in the fourth game of the match. Malisse then answered with a break in the ninth game, as Novak lost his serve for the first time since his first round victory over Amer Delic. Malisse then stormed to a 4-1 lead in the first set tie-break before eventually taking it 8-6. In the second set, Novak was broken after he double faulted away the fourth game of the set, and Malisse then claimed the title with his third break of the match.

The only player to have lost more finals before eventually claiming his first was Cedric Pioline, who lost his first nine finals before winning in Copenhagen in 1996.

It also marked some consolation for his two runner-up finishes in Delray Beach. In 1999, Malisse lost to Lleyton Hewitt 6-4 6-7(2) 6-1. Both players were 18 years old in that match, marking the last time in the ATP that two teenagers played for an ATP title. Then in 2001, he lost to Jan-Michael Gambill 7-5 6-4 in the final.

En route to this year's final, Malisse defeated Jeff Morrison, Juan-Pablo Guzman, Ramon Delgado and top seed Vincent Spadea 7-5 6-4 in the semifinals. After claiming the title, Malisse now has a tournament-best 16-5 win-loss record in his six appearances in Delray Beach. His victory also marked the second consecutive year that the champion was a first-time winner on the ATP circuit, following Ricardo Mello's victory last year. Two other players earned their first career title at this tournament, Andrew Ilie in 1998 and Todd Martin in 1993.

The 23-year-old Malisse also became the first player to claim a singles and doubles title in 2005. He teamed with countryman Olivier Rochus to defeat Simon Aspelin and Todd Perry for the title in Adelaide in the season-opener.

Novak, who was making his first appearance in Delray Beach and his first appearance on the 2005 ATP circuit, was playing in his 13 th career ATP final. He did not drop a set until the final. He opened the tournament with a 6-4 6-3 win over American Amer Delic. He breezed past

In the doubles, top seeds Simon Aspelin and Todd Perry captured their first career title together while playing in their third final of 2005 after they defeated Jordan Kerr and Jim Thomas 6-3, 6-3. Aspelin and Perry were finalists in Adelaide and Auckland earlier this year. It is Aspelin's fourth career ATP doubles title and the second for Perry.

Malisse: “It feels awesome. It is a feeling that I've never felt--seeing that last ball go out and getting the monkey off my back.

“It was a feeling of disbelief because you can't believe it happened. It's been a long time in coming.

“When I went on the court today it didn't matter if I had 15 titles, it's what I do today that counts. Fortunately today was the day.”

On being down in the first set: “Everyone always gets chances. I told myself to keep holding my serve and that chances would come. I got away with the first set but that's how sports goes. It's not over until you get the last point.”

Novak: “I thought the first set was the key of the match. I had the lead, I was in control. He was just better in the second set.

“I'm disappointed I just lost the final, but I'm very happy to have reached the final.”

02-06-2005, 10:57 PM
Congrats to all the X philes!

He really took it to Novak when he himself was down. It was impressive and a great way to win.

Xavier is at 34 and Olivier at 42 on today's ranking list actually.

Not what I said earlier, but still good for both! :)

`Hometown' Belgian finally wins in ITC
By Michael Russo
Staff Writer
February 7, 2005

DELRAY BEACH · Since 1998, when he was a hot-dog teenager with pink hair, Xavier Malisse has played at the Millennium International Tennis Championships.

He twice appeared in the finals without winning, and as the tournament's winningest player, Delray fans began to think of the Belgian as one of their own.

Sunday afternoon, behind a contingent of supporters, the third-seeded Malisse won his first ATP championship, claiming the ITC title and a $52,000 payday with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory over second-seeded and 28th-ranked Jiri Novak.

Having to rally from a 5-2 deficit in the first set against a player who hadn't lost a set all week, the 46th-ranked Malisse, 16-5 lifetime at the ITC, broke an 0-for-6 mark in ATP finals.

Even sweeter, victory came against the accomplished Novak, who has won seven ATP titles, including one when Malisse was appearing in his first final as an 18-year-old rookie in Mexico City.

"That was a pretty big monkey, but it's finally off my back," said Malisse, 24, who dropped to the court in tears after Novak's return in a lengthy rally sailed long on match point.

"This is a feeling I've never felt. Probably the best moment was seeing that last ball go out. I knew if I kept giving myself chances, this had to come one day."

Malisse, playing his 117th event, entered as one of two in the top 100 world rankings to have played 100 events and not won a tournament. (Belgian Christophe Rochus, ranked 100th, has played 105.)

Malisse is also the first to lose at least six finals before winning his first since Cedric Pioline ended an 0-for-9 streak in Copenhagen in 1996.

Malisse had lost to Lleyton Hewitt (1999) and Jan-Michael Gambill (2001) in the ITC finals. He said those defeats never entered his mind although Novak, who lost for only the fourth time in 21 matches, had defeated Malisse in four of five previous meetings.[/b]

It looked to be swinging Novak's way in the first set. Having not faced a break point in his previous two matches, he fought back to save two break points in the first game. He eventually broke Malisse's serve in the fourth en route to a 5-2 advantage.

"I had the game under control," said Novak, playing in his 13th final. "But then everything changed."

Malisse held his serve in the eighth game and went after Novak assertively in the ninth. Novak fell behind love-30, saved break point once but couldn't a second time. Malisse handcuffed Novak on a return that he briefly hesitated returning because he thought it would go long.

In the tiebreaker, Malisse jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Novak rallied three times to tie. But at 6-6, Malisse forced a mini-break and was able to serve out the set with a blistering forehand into the corner for an 8-6 victory.

"I got away with the first set, that's for sure," Malisse said.

Having blown such a lead and expended that much energy in his tiebreaker comeback attempt, Novak was dejected heading into the second and his serve was broken in the fourth game.

"[Losing the first set] was a terrible feeling," Novak said..

Added Malisse, "I think in the first game [of the second set, Novak] was definitely mentally out of it. Then mentally he got back, but physically he wasn't as strong."

Malisse is the first to claim a singles and doubles title in 2005. He teamed with countryman Olivier Rochus to defeat Simon Aspelin and Todd Perry for the title in Adelaide in the season opener.

"When I started the season, my goal was to win a [singles] tournament," Malisse said. "Now I won one, so now we have to reset some goals and try to do some better things. I know I can win a title now. I hope this victory gets me to a different level."

In doubles, top-seeded Aspelin and Perry, in their third final of 2005, won their first title together, defeating Jordan Kerr and Jim Thomas 6-3, 6-3.

My my - what's going ON??? I was lucky enough to see all X's matches at Wimbledon - and you know Coria was lucky. What happened in Indy? I would have thought X would get through to meet Andy. If anyone saw the match (not on tv here in UK) can you tell me what went wrong. Cheers:-(

07-21-2005, 08:09 PM
Well, he couldn't hold serve. That was the problem.

Three times he was a break up in the second set, with a couple of chances for a double break. I suppose Malisse just played one of the worst matches of his life, cause it doesn't seem like he's injured - he's on court now for a doubles match.

07-28-2005, 05:24 AM
Yes!!! Xavier defeated defending champion Tommy Haas in LA :yeah:

After losing the first set with 6-1, Malisse managed to win the 2nd with 6-3 and the last one with 6-4... Talkin' about mental strength ;)

07-28-2005, 06:12 AM
Xavier played SO WELL Tonight, oh I was so happy for him. the 6-1 first set is deceptive, I feel like it was much closer than that. He cut down on his errors and started serving and returning much better in the second set and carried that over and really fought hard and stayed mentally strong - esp. since the crowd was for Tommy.

GREAT Win for Xavier!!!! :bounce:

07-28-2005, 07:38 AM
reaction from Xavier after the match (translated):

'Today my serve was going pretty well. (Malisse hit 18 aces). It was a good match, but it wasn't the best of this season. This win really is a relief. I've already played many great matches, but in the end I lost them, like the ones against Hewitt at Queens or against Nadal at Roland Garros. But today I played very agressive during the last two sets.'

07-28-2005, 09:51 AM
and some more... it looks like Haas was also pretty impressed by Xavier :)

Malisse: "I've changed my motion a little bit and have been working on it with (Coach) Kelly (Jones) for awhile, and it seems to be working. It's got a good rhythm and I feel good. It doesn't always go that way, but when it does, I'll definitely take it."

"First set I couldn't do too much, he was too good. He wasn't missing anything. All the tough ones I was making back but the easy shots I was missing. Second set, I just tried to hang in there. I won that one game at 2-1 to break and it kind of gave me confidence. I started serving better, started playing better, my backhand was better, and I was feeling good. I think I started to play more aggressive in the last two sets."

Haas: "I felt physically pretty good actually, to be honest. I played a really good set of flawless tennis on my side. Second set I played one weak game, made a few easy mistakes, and got the break. That always helps and motivates the opponent a little bit. I had one break chance and didn't make him play to try and get back on level terms. Third set came around and he played a really solid game to go up 3-2 in the third. I had another chance to break him and didn't make him play again. When you're playing top level and you don't make you opponent play, you don't really have a chance to win, and therefor don't really deserve it either."

"He served really good I thought. I don't think I've ever seen him serve that consistantly well, plus with placement. I've got to give up for him serving, that really probably won the match for him."

07-28-2005, 10:55 AM
So good to see it coming together. You know he is TOP class. He just needs more belief. A read a match report (not being able to see matches cos I'm in the UK) that he had an ice pack on his right arm straight after the match. So hope that's not too bad. Chela tomorrow - C'MON X! All the way to the title. :-)

07-28-2005, 03:28 PM
Xavier's serve was the most impressive thing. I was just like omg since when does he serve this many aces and unreturnables!! I really hope he can keep it up!!

08-16-2005, 12:31 PM
Never thought I'd say it but...thank god for Agassi! X gets to play in Cincinatti afterall (going out in qualies to Lapentti - WHAT?!!!). Anyhow - good luck today against Moya. Andy you know at least it keeps him away from Roger in the second round. Good luck X :-)

Hello :wavey:
i dreamt about Xavier this last night (nothing hot sorry  ) so it reminds me i have a stupid question about him.. who is this coach? is it Kelly Jones now ? it seems yes as i could read above

here to show my support for d other Belgium, keep fighting X-man!! :yeah:

08-29-2005, 09:56 PM
What the hell is going on with Xavier? It's just getting worse. He has now refused to play Davis Cup. Apparently the Rochus brothers did not want him there if Xavier was not committed (they are right). And because of this, he does not want to play doubles with Olivier.
Xavier is just getting worse character wise. He needs to see a shrink.
I've completely given up on him. It seems like his suspension has made him even worse than before.
On talent alone, he should be the highest ranked Belgian, instead the small Rochus brothers make the most of their talent.

08-31-2005, 12:29 AM

Xavier had to be sure to keep on playing in 2006 for the davis cup to be in the team this time and he didn't know..? is it what you meant? (sorry i'm a bit confused with my english!)

this is hard to take in...its xman's best against agassi, took 2 sets away(never won a set from agassi b4) and look as he would repeat his 3rd comeback victory...but in d fifth set he lost his momentum.

i almost got to see him play in d QF!!! :bigcry: ive actually seen him play live b4, but never a singles match on tv.

its been so longsince he got past d rd of 16...whn will he find his best form again??

09-06-2005, 10:02 AM
i'm not really disappointed by Xavier's play yesterday, on the contrary i was happy he was able to come back to 2-2 after losing the 2 first sets. i only realized i didn't see Xavier playing for a (too) long time because i found him a bit.. fat :p
I can't wait to see him playing live again. Do you know if he will come to Lyon tournament? i suppose yes because he was finalist last year

09-06-2005, 10:09 AM
I'm far from disappointed with Xav's performance. First time he's ever taken a set off AA. Shame he didn't win - really thought he was in the zone and gonna do it! But you know he played so positively I was v proud of him.

Keep it up week in week out and you'll soon be in the top ten X.

Nice job, shame about the result - but you're all heart man and that's what counts. xxx

So job well done, n like xmanfan said, keep this up and we'll see him in top10 soon! :)

anyone seen the auction of signed stuff on ebay from the players at the US Open? They've a pair of X's shoes up. Would have prefered to bid for a signed shirt though!! he he. Haven't bid - bit too much money (although I know it's for a great cause).

Talking of autographs, anyone got a signed photo or something of X they'd be willing to sell me? Been after an autograph for ages but you know there's not much about and those shoes are too expensive for me.

I know what you mean. I got my tshirt signed by Roger Federer when he won Wimbledon in 2003 and wouldn't get rid of that for all the tea in china!

Oh well, maybe someone else will have one somewhere.

09-14-2005, 10:17 AM
they say on the general messages thread that X has parted company with Kelly Jones and is looking for a new coach. I hope he gets someone that can make him release all his potential.

Good Luck against Murray tonight in Mons Xav. Btw has X got a new coach yet? Let me know if you know. I was reading an article about some 16 year old US player called Clarke who apparently "X's coach thinks is good" but not sure if its a new coach they mean or whether they're talking about Kelly.

10-09-2005, 08:02 PM
He doesn't have a new coach yet.
A journalist asked him if his new coach could be a Belgian. Xavier said it was all still possible...

Xavier is goin' fine in Delray Beach... Quarter final against Florian Mayer and a possible semi-final against Andre Agassi (who lost one set today against Delgado)

here's an article about him. Actually it's more like an ode to Xavier :yeah:

Commentary: X is all that marks undercover champ

DELRAY BEACH — Andre Agassi plays again tonight at the Delray Beach International Championships. He plays at 7 p.m. Press 1 if you need to know the name of his second-round opponent.

OK, so I'm hearing dead silence on the line. Not entirely unexpected.
Press 2, then, if you would like to know when Andy Roddick's match is scheduled.

Gotcha, or at least a few of you, because some are still unaware that Roddick asked in and then out of this tournament during the weekend.

All right, here's one to test the true tennis fan. Press X if you know the name of Delray's defending champion. He's the guy cruising under the radar, ponytail flapping in the breeze, and he's about to hit a real career hot streak, if not here, then soon.

"I don't like to be in the spotlight," Xavier Malisse said Tuesday, and the truth is nothing could be more wonderful because no Brand X ever has been pushed farther to the back of the shelf.

Malisse's tournament defense began at 5:45 p.m., Tuesday, while most fans were still trying to find a parking spot and a bite to eat. He'll go off again today at 5:30, in the shadows, on Andre's undercard. So what would have happened if Roddick and James Blake hadn't withdrawn?

Delray's defending champion on Court 3?

Press 0 if you want to talk to tournament director Mark Baron about doing something about this, like maybe bumping Andre off center court and giving Malisse the evening's feature match.

Again with the silence.

Again Malisse, the most consistently successful player in the history of the Delray event, must face the truth. He has one ATP title. Only one. For all the money, and he's won nearly $3 million on tour, it's winning that sets a player apart.

Nobody had to explain this to him in January 2005, when an upset win over Jiri Novak in the Delray final sent Malisse bopping back home to Sarasota, music blaring loud enough to warm the leather inside his Range Rover and that precious championship trophy belted safely in the passenger seat.

"I've never felt seeing that last ball go out and getting the monkey off my back," Malisse said, for he had had been in six previous finals without a breakthrough. Now he's back on the brink. A finalist at Adelaide last month, but not a champion. A five-set loser at the Australian Open, but in the second round.

"It's funny," said Sargis Sargsian, a wild-card entrant who fought for 74 minutes against Malisse on Tuesday but was easily dismissed all the same, 6-2, 6-2. "Patrick Rafter won two titles at the U.S. Open, but for the longest time he had only two or three titles. I guess it's just not easy winning out here. I won just once, 22 years ago."

Twenty-two years is an obvious exaggeration. But for Sargsian, who won his only ATP title in 1997, it probably seems that long.

Malisse is 25. Was Delray his once-in-a-lifetime experience as champion? No way that's possible. We're talking about a sensational athlete, capable of reaching the Wimbledon semifinals in 2002, and flashy on court, too. Wasn't it just the other day that he was dating Jennifer Capriati? Or was that really six years ago?

Time flies out here, and every season a new set of kids in long shorts and backward caps comes flying out of nowhere to join the flock of championship contenders. Most will pull an upset or two, thrilling their parents and their coaches and their countrymen, but never really feel at home.

Malisse, at least, has Delray, where he was a finalist in 1999 and 2001 before breaking through last year, and where his all-time match record is 17-5.

"It feels great here," the transplanted Belgian said. "I can pretty much do my own thing, drive my own car over, eat at all the restaurants on Atlantic Avenue."

Who cares that he isn't always recognized, or that he isn't always seated immediately? That is Andre's life.

Delray's defending champion goes on court early again today. That, for now, is his.

great article thz JuanRodriguez

i just read d finals score line, xman lost 3-6 6-3 6-7. very close match, unfortunately it wasnt his day again. must be hard not able to defend this title coz it means so much to him, he's been in so many finals but only 1 title so far. but this year looks promising.

Malisse Wins Liverpool International
Sunday 18 June 2006

Xavier Malisse, currently ranked 41 on the ATP tour, arrived early for practice, and was soon
followed by America's Vince Spadea (who's current ranking is 75). The pair last met in 2005 at Delray Beach, Florida on hard courts, where Malisse won 7-5, 6-4.The last time they played
each other on grass was at Wimbledon in 2003, where Malisse was the victor
again. The current head to head is 3.0 Malisse so Spadea was out to upset the Belgian.

The players walked on to centre court just before 2pm to a packed stadium
led by ex-Wimbledon referee Alan Mills. Malisse struggled in the first set
and wasn't too comfortable with the damp conditions and the heavy ball.
Spadea on the other hand looked a lot more comfortable and used it to his
advantage taking the first set 6-3.

Rain briefly brought the players off the court early in the second set with the score on serve at 2.1. This gave Malisse time to re-group and Spadea time to get additional advice from
his coach to see how he could continue his positive start. After a thirty minute delay play
was resumed, with Malisse looking a lot more confident. The players stayed on serve as thay adjusted again to the courts. It looked all set for the tiebreak when Malisse managed the all important break at 6.5 and closed out the second set to 7-5. One set all! It was set for an exciting decider.

Owing to the inclement weather it was decided the match would be decided in a super tie
break. The packed crowd had remained in their seats despite the stoppages and they were waiting with much anticipation to see if Spadea could break Malisse's run of
wins against him.

The Super Tie Break or Champions Tie Break is decided by the first player to reach 10 points by 2 clear points and continues until those 2 clear points are reached.

It was a nail biting tie break, first Malisse getting the vital mini break and they changed ends for the first time at 4.2 Malisse.Malisse continued to build on this break and went ahead 8-5 - it seemed it would soon be over. But Vince Spadea was not finished and started a come back. The score was levelled at 8 all. Spadea then went ahead for the first time in the tie break, breaking Malisse's serve to go 9-8. Again was this now Spadea's chance. But Malisse had other ideas. He levelled again and the score went to 12 all. Then the all important break and Malisse served to eventually win the match 14-12 .

Final Score Malisse winning by (3-6, 7-5, 14-12.

So despite all the ups and downs of weather, the crowd were treated to an amazing final between two very talented players and proved once again that the match is not won until the very last moment.

As our newly crowned champion for 2006 Xavier Malisse said:

"I didn't feel good when I first came on court, I didn't feel steady on my
feet but the rain break seemed to work for me. I warmed up a little more,
regrouped and felt a lot more confident when I went back out. The tie break
went my way eventually, thank God, but he nearly came back. I hope to come
back next year to defend the title."

Later the crowd who had stayed behind were treated to a 1 setter between Mansour Bahrami and Henri Leconte against the 2 Australians Pat Cash and Peter McNamara which Bahrami/Leconte won 8.6.

All in all it was a great Finals Day in which tennis had the upper hand despite nature trying to take its toll. The joys of the English grass court season.

hey im a big fan.. i like the pony better but for a change this is great too.. can anyone tell me about his clothing sponsors? thanks..

10-23-2006, 09:24 AM

the clothing sponsor of Xavier is Sergio Tacchini

10-24-2006, 03:32 PM
yeha i noticed his wearing ST but why is he wearing adidas as his shoes?

10-24-2006, 03:43 PM
Shoes are not clothing. Shoes and clothes are separately. The shoes sponsor can be different. Many players wearing a different clothing and shoes sponsors. For ejample, my fav player wears Sergio Tacchini clothes and Nike shoes. :)

10-25-2006, 04:29 AM
oh okay, im thinkin the same thing, but you know, it would be nice if he wears only adidas or only ST but either way i still like him. nice to see him win his first round

10-25-2006, 05:47 AM
Malisse won his first round in Lyon against Spadea 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 :)

Xavier hasn't made it to the Lyon final  But he played a terrific match against Gicquel. He was down 2/5 in the decisive set and saved 3 matchpoints ! :bigclap: He eventually made it to the tiebreak where he had to save 2 other matchpints (3/6 => 5/6). But then the stupid Frenchman decided he had enough :D

COME ON BELGIANS !!! :worship:

10-28-2006, 04:55 PM
