Okay, here's the 2009 tentative schedule. I've put in all the ATP tournaments, but I doubt he'll be able to get into the European spring Masters Series events (or whatever they call them now). I'll change those to challengers when the time comes. I'm hoping that he skips the European tournaments during the summer and immediately goes on to hardcourts after Roland Garros. I know he won't do this so I don't know why I bother  , but my humble opinion, he should skip the grass season and play some hardcourt challengers, then immediately go to the US Open series events so he can be ready for the US Open. It's his best Grand Slam so in these last couple years where he has a chance to still do something, he should give it the best try possible - and playing clay all summer and getting on to hardcourts just before the US Open isn't giving it the best try.

Good luck to Nico in 2009! :fiery:

I hope Nico wins the title in Vina too! He would be soooo happy. And he deserves to have something good happen to him after this sh*tty year.

And Alonso - you make me laugh! lol!!!!!!!!!!! But I didn't know that Kitz is gone...that's horrid...its Nico's favorite tournament after Vina.

I don't think that he should go to the UK at all this year. Personally I don't think that he should go to New Zealand and Australia - I would rather that he played challengers on clay, get his confidence back and his ranking up, and then KICK ASS in DC and the Latin American tournaments!!! :fiery:

And yes...Nico HAS to come to my beloved City and make the US Open QFs just for me!!! Just kidding...

I don't think Kitz has officially gone yet - although it's very likely. Evidently - they weren't paying their bills on time, so the organisers want to close the tournament down before their contract ends and move it elsewhere. Mamaiia is favourite at the moment because Ion Tiriac is involved with the organisation and has connections there, but nothing is definate yet. Personally - I think a change would be good - I know a lot of players and fans liked Kitz, but I think it was more for the social aspects than the tennis or facilities, and recently a lot of players have prefeerd to go to Umag that week anyway!

Sorry to hear that about their financial problems. And lol...figures Nico liked it if there were a lot of "social" aspects to the tournament...lol!

I would love it if he went to the US tournaments instead. It always takes him so long to get used to hardcourts. It would be great to have 3-4 warmups on hardcourts before Toronto, Cincy, and the US Open.

But Nico hasn't called me for my opinion, so doubt that will happen... ;)

There is a pub there called "The Londoner" - everyone goes there - it is so infamous that it even gets a mention on one of the Kitz tourist board sites! Made me laugh to see David Ferrer walking around the Hotel in Madrid wearing an "I've been to the Londoner" T-shirt last month ;) And -yes - Nico loves it there!!!!!

As for the US tourneys - I take your point and it's an interesting idea - but I doubt it will happen, because Nico is likely to accrue more points on clay than on hard courts so I think Gaby will go for that option next year. I was interested to hear that even Coria and Nalbandian - who tried the hard court option instead of clay this year (ie Rotterdam and Marseille instead of Buenos Aries and Acapulco etc) are seemingly returning to the clay for 2006.

If I ever make it there - and it was a wish to go to Kitz this year but that probably won't happen now - I will definitely stop by The Londoner! Sounds fun!

I heard that Guille and David were going to do the LA swing this year. I was soooo pissed at both of them last year for missing BA. Hard enough to get the good players to go to SA without the players that live there skipping the tournaments. Of course, Fernando is going to Europe [see posts below - its rest and US not Europe...my sincere apologies for misinformation ;) ] this year rather than SA...not happy about it. :(

Yes, Gaby will opt for Europe during the summer. And I've promised to not criticize any of his decisions this year. ;) So keeping my mouth shut... ;) :tape:

Well - I know this may upset some South American posters here (sorry in advance :o ) - but if Feņa has committed to the European circuit, then I think he has made the right decision- just as I thought it was the right decision for Coria and Nalbandian last year - and - no - that is not because I live in Europe!!! For players like Nico and Gaudio it's obviously right to stay on the clay because that is their best surface and they'll gain more points there........ but at the end of the day - these guys have a very finite career (only a few years - not working til they're 60 like we have to), - so it's important for them to make as much money as possible and build a future for themselves and their families while they can - after all an injury could finish their careers at any time  Hard courts are more suited to Feņa's game than the clay, and if he wants to get a postion in the Top 10 for 2006 then he should concentrate on the best possible preparation for the US hardcourt touneys in Spring (Miami and Indian Wells) where he could gain lots of points. Sadly sentiment has no place in modern business and tennis is a business these days. Just my opinion anyway and sorry if I offend anyone.

No, definitely not offended. You're right. I'm wrong...lol! But I feel so bad for the SA tournaments - they have so many dedicated fans but its so far, no one goes there. Doesn't seem fair.

I unfortunately let sentiment get in the way. I'm not a business type person. (*EEK* - smilies not working).

That's why I wouldn't make a good coach - if Nico or Fernando played horridly, I'd be mad for about 10 seconds and then hug them and tell them to go have fun so they'd feel better. lol!

Don't think there's such a thing as "right" and "wrong" in this - it's just a matter of personal opinion and we're all entitled to have our own :) And I'm sure both Nico and Feņa would love you as their coach if you treated them like that ;)

You're right...sorry...I knew he wasn't doing the LA swing after Vina, but was thinking Europe...had a brain blimp...too much stuff going on with work and school, I can't remember my name most days...lol!...its the US touranmnets that Fer's thinking about. But I do know that he's not doing the LA tournaments and that was my basic point.

I wouldn't mind Nico doing the US tournaments on one hand because I would see him, but on the other hand, I like that he supports the LA swing tournaments so very happy that he's staying in SA.

I'm just so afraid that if he loses Down Under that he'll really be in a huge confidence hole.

On a scale of 0 to 10 right now confidence wise, with 0 being no confidence and 10 being very confident, he has a confidence level of about -100.

I think putting him in a situation where he could do poorly (on hardcourts at the beginning of the season where he traditionally has poor results) when he desperately just needs confidence and just pure playing time to get his timing and groundstrokes back is well...kind of loco. And will set the stage for more losses.

But again, no one calls me on these things... ;) ... so he'll be winging his way Down Under come January...

Iīm happy too if Nico plays successful at Estoril. I think he never came to Munich but itīs ok. The tournament isnīt attractive for some (top) players . One of the Top 20 (Coria  ) came this year.

Both of them (Estoril/Munich) starts before 2 TMS events (Roma/Hamburg :) )...itīs also a problem i think! Lot of players take and need a break.

I think she likes to live dangerously by posting things like that! Maybe we can get her to take up skydiving and then she'd stop posting about Nico and blondes (although I have to admit I've posted my share on that too ;) ) :haha:

You're right - Nico does need a break - I just wish it wasn't a tournament where I can see him..

But he didn't have fun in Washington last year - I saw his match. He was really having problems trying to adjust from the clay one week and then just having 1-2 days to practice before playing a match on hardcourt - he was really really frustrated. He looked up at the Chileans I was sitting next to and said - one shot, two shots, and the point is over. This is so much fun. Obviously he was being really sarcastic. I felt bad for him.

Sorrrrrrrrrrry....I forgot to reply to your comment before on this.

Kid and I are going! :woohoo: And a couple other people I know too.

I heard Toronto is a very nice tournament. Someone I met at the Miami tournament told me that they built a new stadium, and were re-doing the entire site. Hope its finished when we get there.

Of course as long as we see Nico, and all are other favs like Rafa, Feli, Fer, etc., we'll be happy. :)

And I've always wanted to visit Toronto - supposed to be quite a lovely city. Of course, I was telling Kid today - I have a habit of not wanting to leave the tournament grounds. :haha: I pretty much get there when the gates open in the morning, and leave only after the last ball is hit for the day. ;)

Seriously Cincy sounds like the tourny I may most likely get to some day. Do the women play there too? My oldest girl is a fan now of women's tennis and if they played there too it would be just toooo perfect!

NicoFan
07-07-2006, 08:27 PM
Sparko - no the women don't play in Cincy. Too bad. Though I have to admit, I like it that way. Miami is a lovely tournament though and they have both the men and the women - and they showcase our beloved clay courters from South America and Spain so they get lots of attention. And you could take the kids to the beach too, and hubby would have something to do while you watch tennis all day! Of course, Cincy has the amusement and water park right there so that would be fun for the entire family too. But again, no women.

Sparko1030

I'm wondering what Nico is planning to do in September.

I hope he makes it into the second week of the US Open, but then not sure what he's planning between that and Metz.

Normally he had Davis Cup and then Palermo - but no DC and no Palermo this year. Wonder if he's going to sign up for Mumbai.

Since he's unfortunately going back toward #40 in the rankings, he's got to worry about getting into Madrid and Paris so he needs all the points he can get. And I doubt he would take an entire month off - that's a bit crazy since he needs points.

Hopefully we're hear shortly what he's planning.

The entry lists for Thailand, Mumbai and Palermo just came out.

Nico's not on any of them.

And he wasn't on the entry lists for China or Romania the week before.

So he's not playing at all in September????

Nico Nico Nico...what are you thinking?

His ranking is going down and down and down, and he's going to do nothing for entire month?

I would like to think this means he's going to play some challengers to get his ranking up but I know that won't happen.

kidnicky
08-16-2006, 01:29 PM
NicoFan we've to wait, you know that we never know what the chico is thinking and I'm sure that he wouldn't be just at home the rest of september .... and if he'd be thinking about that, Gaby wouldn't let him do it so we've to wait and see what are his plans .... maybe I should call him and ask :p

Well if he's not on any entry list, then he's not playing. If he's not playing, he's partying in Chile.

I have to admit that I'm really annoyed with him right now.

Here I am concerned about his ranking and getting into Madrid and Paris, and obviously he isn't concerned. :(

Nico plays at his best when he plays a lot. If he's sitting at home in Chile and partying all night for all of September, he won't be ready for the indoor hard/carpet season. If he's not ready to play, then he's going to have more first round losses.

Nico...

NicoFan
08-16-2006, 01:37 PM
What really annoys me is that even with his ranking going down, he would have been seeded at Palermo - only Fer V and Gasquet would have been higher than him.

What a blown chance to pick up some points. :(

08-16-2006, 01:47 PM
I won't say it again 'cause I know how you're about these things and you're probably right or maybe you're wrong, I can't be mad at him right now so I'll wait to see what are his plans .... I really don't think that he'd be sitting at home in Chile so I'll wait to know his reasons and then I'll decide if I'm going to be mad at him or not :p

Tommy - Question - isn't the alternate list and qualifying list two different things? You can qualify without being an alternate - and vice versa, you can be on the alternate list and decide not to qualify.

Alx - I voted all the time too last year. And I would do it again this year even though the way he played was  . I guess the tournament director in Madrid told him afterwards that he let everyone down by the way he played. So he apologized at the end of the season for it. Sweet chico.

well I don't want to be rude but I voted my ass off the last year!!! :haha: I had like 5 windows opened and voting at the same time during the all day, I'm sure that between all of us, his fans outside Chile, we voted more than the ones in Chile :yeah: ... he's a sweet chico  and I'll do it again!!! so I don't care if I finished with my fingers all hurt, I'd give my boy another wild card if I could ;)

TommyB.

It seems we have a little misunderstanding here. ;) Yes you can be on the alternate list and decide not to qualify. I don't know if Nico want to play the qualification there. But I think it's possible that 4 or maybe 5 players in front of him withdrawal from Madrid, than he's in. :)

I'm not being mean...its called "tough love". :haha:

And if he keeps going this way, he's going to have more problems than me being mean to him.

Unfortunately for Nico, he plays best when he plays every week. I know he wants to be like the other guys who take all sorts of time off. But that won't work for him rankings wise. I feel bad for him because of that, but if he wants to be a top player, he can't take weeks off. His decision, but I just know he won't be happy if he has to qualify and miss tournaments all the time because his ranking is low.

I adore my sweetie...I just want the best for him.

"tough love" :retard: I'm sure that Nico wouldn't like that kind of "love"

and don't worry NicoFan, I'm sure that after this he realized that he can't be like the other guys and that he does better when he plays every week (unfortunatly for him but luckly for us :p ) he said it after the match, that it was difficult because he's coming back from a long time without playing but that he felt better during the 2nd set, besides he'll have to play a lot since he's qualifying now and I'm sure that he won't be so thrilled about it :smash:

but one thing I know for sure, he won't ever stop working hard and fighting (no matter what you said :ras: )

Thanks No1Rios for posting the entry list of Vina.
It's very interesting. There are only 3 russians : Tursunov, Andreev and Korolev. No Davydenko, Safin or Youzhny. Maybe some of them won't play the Davis Cup tie. Anyway, if they play, it will be difficult for them to get used to the ground.

i think that 3 russians and Safin or Davydenko will be the russian DC team vs Chile

Safin has more posibilities to play in Chile compared to Davydenko, firstly Marat said in November that he want to play this tie, even in his official schedule is in. Davydenko (and Youzhny) will play in Europe the previous week to the tie and Marat will not play any tournament between AO and the Davis Cup. Finally, Safin likes DC and Davy not :p (Marat have a country to represnt, Davydenko is really Ukranian)

I hope a good draw in Auckland, AO and Viña for Nico. Shame that finally it seems that I couldn't go to the DC tie (money issues)

He said he wasn't playing Brasil, but look there he is!!!

Yeay - good decision Nico! :yeah:

He needs that tournament - he's got to go all out during the LA swing and play every tournament becuase that's where he picks up a lot of points during the year. If he needs to skip anything, skip IW after the LA swing. He never does anything there anyway.

Nico is 7 spots OUT of the Main Draw, but still in the list are Ancic and Wawrinka, in the case Nico needs 5 more OUTs to enter Rome AMS...

Nico is playing at the River Oaks Tournament, at least his name is in the draw.
So, no week off!

2.Rd.: Montanes or Delic!

Alina - thanks for the info!!!

What is this event? It's not on the challenger list.

And does it mean that he'll play in the regular Houston tournament the next week?

I don't get it. Why would he sign up for a challenger like tournament rather than just go direct entry into the regular ATP tournament in Houston?

And any points?

River Oaks is an exhibition in my opinion. No challenger and no entry points.

Maybe he'll get a WC for the main event or it's just preparation for Monte Carlo. But I have no idea.

Very odd. I understand that he wants to prepare for MC. I guess if he played Houston and went deep in the tournament, he wouldn't be able to qualify for MC. But considering that he's never done well in MC, Houston might have been a better choice. I don't get what he's thinking, but then again, I never have understood many of his career decisions. Let's hope the gamble on MC works out.

I don't know why Nico will play an exhibition instead of a tournament

alina1981
04-02-2007, 12:52 PM
I think he took the decision due to the fact that it's a good preparation on clay for the starting season and additionally he can play with other good players.

Alx

I don't know why Nico will play an exhibition instead of a tournament
because it's the Davis Cup week and there's only challengers and Nico can't win points in challengers. So playing an exhibition or a regular tournament is the same thing except for the prize money (I think Houston is more interesting :tape: )

Same thing for the Houston IS, Nico can't win any point except if he plays the final (or maybe SF) and on american clay, it would not be easy for him. So it's better playing the qualies in Monte-Carlo, he will win some points if he qualifies for the MD and the most important, Lovely will be in Monte-Carlo so Nico must play in Monte-Carlo.

Thanks Alx, your explaination makes sense. With his point situation as it is, it makes these decisions complicated.....

04-02-2007, 01:14 PM
When does this 5 best sh*t end??? He didn't do all that well in 2006 except at the beginning of the season - and he's defended those points. So this doesn't make any sense that now all of a sudden he has about 1000 5 best tournaments to defend. And then he has to defend those same points again once those tournaments come up? We have a name for that in English - it's called double jeopardy - meaning you get screwed twice for the same thing.

So basically until next year when he will have ZERO points to defend all year because he only did well in Vina this year - he'll finally be able to get into tournaments and gain points??? Or will they make him defend the points for Vina at every tournament he enters next year? (Yes, I am being sarcastic).

And I would rather he go to a challenger tournament in Europe if there's no points if he's preparing MC. I'm assuming that this exhibition is on green clay just like the Houston tournament is. Which means it's absolutely NO preparation for MC.

I don't know
There's a challenger in Monza in Italia and an oter in San Luis de Potosi in Mexico. Maybe he asked a wild card and he didn't get it

btw NicoFan I loved what you post about defending the points from Viña the all year

actually I don't get it, but not his decision, I don't get that thing of defending the best 5 or whatever it's called :o ... it's better if I don't say anything and I just try to figure out between all your posts :silly:

oh and it seems that it's not green clay, at least that's what I can see in the pics of the website

And don't blame him - not a lot of money coming in this year and he still has to pay Gaby, his trainer, his psychologist, and everyone else. This is guaranteed $$$ no matter how he plays.

yeah I know but that was to much  ... but if you're worried for his money I have a lot of ideas to help him in that department, he doesn't need to pay to the stupid sport psychologist that doesn't help him at all, I could do that work for free and I could help him even more :p

I'll try my best. ;) I am really surprised that Nico will play in Pörtschach, because I thought they will play Team Cup in Düsseldorf. It's long time ago, that Nico played this event. And just one time, 2001 in st.pölten. He lost in the 2nd round. This time it will be much better! For sure!
