David's post-match interview: Motivation can be a problem.

Since we have a thread for Luby's post-match interview, I thought I could include one for David.

http://www.masters-cup.com/en/interviews/pdf/nalbandian3.pdf

David is asked why he does not play more like he does today when he is, in the opinion of one of the reporters, form good enough to be in the top three.

David replies that it is hard to play well consistantly- and admits that motivation is a reason. No surprise there, Nalby. ;)

Pretty cute section where he is talking about fishing. I like reading his sometimes goofy English. :)

At least he didn't trash anyone. I enjoyed reading about the fishing too.

There has already been a thread started about this with a link to his interview, but KBF's rather childish opening post may have misled some people who thought about opening it.

From the looks of it, KBF is in love.

I suspect he may soon hold a torch for anyone who can beat Ljubicic with regularity in big events.

He called David Fatbandian or something not too long ago.

Q. You played 2003 Houston Masters Cup. Can you compare the hospitality and the fans between Houston and Shanghai?
DAVID NALBANDIAN: Much, much better here. Hundred percent sure. Much, much.

I was expecting a diplomatic answer.

At least he didn't say Mattress Mac is a tool or something along those lines.

haha, during the guadio v. davydenko match, cliffy said he spoke to mac a few days before and he(mac) commented that there wouldn't have been all these withdrawals if tmc was still in houston :o

What an ass! Because of course marat knee would be magically repaired if it was in Houston, and hewit would prefer to be in Texas than for the birth of his child, and GRrrrrr. That man in Houston makes me so angry

Fun to read about the fishing. I wish journalists more often asked players about their personal interests rather than the usual routine tennis questions.

Of course, it makes for better reading all the time.

David seemed motivated against Ivan. Was it something Ivan said?

I don't think he knew about that yesterday, he was motivated because it was a big and important match. However, an important Argentine newspaper quoted what Ljubicic said in the Croatian newspaper about David, so he'll find out about it really soon

"Es el argentino más talento-
so, sabe todo del tenis, pero no ganó nada, no llegó cerca de lo que puede dar. No me gusta esa clase de tenista".
Ayer suavizó un poco sus dichos
Después
"No tuve nada que hacer,
él jugó en forma increíble.
Yo sacaba a 220 km/h y las pelotas volvían como si hubiera servido a 120".
"Tiene una gran devolución y le pega duro. Sabemos que falla en los momentos impor-
tantes. Quería mantener el partido parejo y no pude".
Lengualarga, el croata había ha-
blado mal de David en un diario de su país y en rueda de prensa. Ayer moderó, al menos, un poco.

"He's the most talented Argentine, but he hasn't won anything, he hasn't come near of what he can achieve. I don't like that kind of tennis player"
Yesterday he softened his sayings a bit:
"I had nothing to do, he played in an incredible way. I was serving 220 km/h and the balls came back like I would have served with 120". "He's got a great return and hits hard. We know he makes mistakes in the important moments. I tried to make the match even and I couldn't"
Bigmouthed, the Croatian had spoken bad things about David in a newspaper from his country and in the press conference. Yesterday he moderated his sayings, at least, a bit.
