Well, many of the top guys are burned out now at the end of the year so Andre isn't the only one. I think he has his favorite tournaments that he will still enjoy playing in. He will probably watch what his chances seem like based on the rest of the field and how he feels.

Is ANDRE DONE?

I doubt if the tennis world will be that lucky!
No, as long as Agassi has that enormous ego driving the A-train, he will continue to destroy his past acheivements.

No fool like an old fool.
Quit while you are ahead.
No place like home.
Rest on your laurels.

I don't get what you mean about destroying his past acheivements. I think getting to the finals of the US Open is an acheivement, not matter what your age. He also managed to finish in the top 10 again this year. I am more concerned that he is going to do permenant damage to his body, but as long as he is feeling fit, why shouldn't he play if that's what he wants to do?

he'll still need some way to fund his charity and is private jet, so i think he'll play for another year or two.

wonder if he'll enter the new tourney in vegas?

Andre got rid of his private jet about 3 years ago.
He's not playing the Las Vegas tournament, he's apparently already commited to Dubai.

He'll play one more year, the tournaments he wants and likes. I really don't see him playing 2007. He'll announce this shortly before the USO next summer, but will try to decline a ceremony. Just my guess.

Do not stick a fork in him; he's not done.

I think that he will choose very carefully his tournaments and only play in some slams (I would not be surprise if he does not go to Roland Garos next year), and some other tournaments

He's mentioned how he intends to play a full season next year. If this is based on his performance against Davy in the TMC, then you're reading too much into it. This TMC was not important for AGassi but the 2006 AO will be. Look for a strong performance from him there.

There are 2 ways to read "intends to play a full season". He intends to compete throughout the calendar year, or he intends to play all the required tournaments, rather than intermittently as he feels like it. Since in order to play well, he has to get drugged to the gills - both painkillers for his back, or whatever you call the injections, and Juice to have the power he displayed @NYC, but doesn't w/out it - I don't expect him to play more than a handful of tournaments.

I hate to think of the long term ramifications for his body of his refusal to heed the pain in his back. His need to be admired/cheered etc. must be driving him. Doesn't help that his father is a brute, so I expect he'll be out there as long as he can.

Personally I was ready for him to retire last yr. and have ceased watching him, except perhaps @NYC. I enjoyed him in his time, and wish to move on, and further wish he wouldn't clog the little bit of tv airtime allotted to tennis. Does anyone else still care to watch him more than on rare occasions?

Andre still feels he can do it, although I, like many of you, think he should stop and retire. The decision to do that should be his to make.

^I thought he should've retired after the USO. It was such a great run and it would be a good way to depart from the game.

Obviously, Andre still feels that he can win a slam and at the age of 35, he is still a top 5 or 6 player so who can really blame him for believeing he can still win a big title?

@NYCtennisfan, he gave up that bit - I'll play as long as I think I can win a Major - several yrs. ago. Now it's more like...well, as long as he can play as well as he played v. RF in '-04. But JMac nailed it last yr, noting that the cheering stadium was his Real Addiction that he couldn't give up. W/all the drugs around now to help keep him together, his "farewell tour" could drag on. I wish he'd give a thought to how his body will feel in 5-10-15-20 yrs. Grizzly thought.

The guy trains more than anyone on the tour.. his body is still holding up otherwise he won't join tourneys.. he's only 35!

Andre is a Slam warrior.. All mickey mouse TMSs and TMCs are no longer of any value for him. He only needs to be in a good form four weeks in the year - for Melbourne and New York.

i see no reason for him to quit. he qualified for the year-end tourny which is a significant marker of accomplishment. keep going old man. kick some young butts in 2006.

I think its nothing but tennis... moving around and sprinting .. its aint no Basketball or football.. so his body should be able to take it . I think!

agassi may still be playing maybe not the smartest thing to do as these injuries will take a doll in the long term on his life. but maybe he should think about whats at stake for him. he will play next year a picked trimme ddown schedule that will enable him to get enough pratice for slams. this years schedule was so thin he even still managed to finish i the top 10. that shows the lack of depth at the top of men's game. AA still thinks he can win one more GS. so who are we to deny him the chance or decide for him when to stop

Does anyone else still care to watch him more than on rare occasions?

Well, let me see . . . this year's U.S. Open TV ratings were more than DOUBLE what they were in 2004; Andre just played two exhibitions this past weekend which drew almost 20,000 fans; I will yet again drop a couple thousand dollars to fly to Miami, pay for a hotel and tickets to the Key Biscayne tournament (along with a few thousand others); and Andre will again be receiving 1/2 million dollars to play in Dubai next year.

Does that answer your question? I think there might be a few people who still want to see him play.

I also believe there are a lot of tennis players who would KILL to have been ranked #7 on the ATP tour this year. So, Andre is not finished yet and he and only he should decide when he is finished.

No he's not done, he's still one of the best in the world and if he keeps his body in shape he could play with the best for another 3-4 years!

It was a great chance for him to exit. I am not sure that he will get a better chance particularly in the US - "stupid Saturday" does make it difficult for him with potentially 2 matches of 5 sets on successive days.

Is Andre agassi out of it? Or is he gonna do a come back in 06?

How can you possibly ask wether he'll do a come back next year or not when he is currently the number 7 in the world!? The only come back he can make is to number one or top three or something like that. The real question is wether he can maintain his level once again next year.
The answer i don't know. But because of his us open final he'll probably get a seeding for each tournament he decides to play untill at least at the us open next year.

Maybe he can pull a sampras and then retire at the open:p

My guess is he if do good results ( that´s what i believe and hope ) he will keep playing, and he should coz he is the best, forever, a bit of more confidence in usopen final that he lost against fed. he could do it... So Andre let´s see what will be next year
