Good luck Sweet Roge!

I have no worries at all for this match (even if it mattered for Roge to qualify for semi finale). I have no worry at all, I am sure Roge will do well, win. I think it will be nice "match practice" without worries for him. Good luck!

I wonder how much effort Coria will put into this one. He could come out firing with nothing to lose or just lay down for a beating.

I 2nd Avocado. Want a pretty match. Hope Rog is careful w/his body, and Coria gives him good warm-up for the weekend. The surface is so dangerous there, I'm wary whenever he takes the court, and am torn between wanting him to bag the records, yet wishing he'd fled the place to protect himself, like all the other top players.

but glad Roger won, even if that 2nd set was baffling. somehow Roger didn't seem to be into the match, making elementary errors, but Coria also got better after the feet timeout.

Dropped a set each RR so far... not good for his health. SF will be tough no matter who he plays.

I didn't see the match. But yes, very bizzare scoreline. What was Rogi's demeanor like? Did he look like he just didn't care, or like he was hurting or what?

Both matches today seemed very strange. I didn't expect Ljubicic to go down in straight sets 2 and 2. A lot of people were thinking it would be a Fed/Ljubi final.

I'm not too concerned because he didn't need to win the match. But still after winning the first set 6-0, how do you just lose the plot like that?

Just :o :retard: :smash: :banghead: alltogether

I just hope he's ok and it's just a weird match right from beginining with Coria couldn't find even one first serve, and almost became a joke for the crowds...basially just a  match.

After today's matches, I won't be surprised if nobody shows up for the remaining days of the tournaments :tape:

I think he's simply not fit at he moment and needs a "break" after the first set.

Well, at least it wasn't as bad as the quarter-final in Buenos Aires this year, Nadal bagelled Gaudio in the first set and then only won one game (6-0 0-6 1-6).

Nevertheless, it'll be interesting to read his comments on that second set in the press conference. I wonder what spin he will put on it.

I think he's simply not fit at he moment and needs a "break" after the first set.
Well that's why I'm wondering if he just didn't care or what? I can't believe he would tank a set on purpose...especially since there's no guarantee your level will improve in the next set. If he was playing decent tennis in the first and third sets then I'm not too worried. Also I think if whoever he plays in the SF comes out strong he will pick up his level. I think he sometimes wanders off the reservation when he plays someone that is not very good or not playing well at all. I remember Venus said this during the US Open after her match with Clijsters. Clijsters started out really awful and Venus said because of that it brought her level down.

But it's obvious that he's not 100%. It's just hard to know how much of it is due to his injury and how much of it is just lack of match play. I saw his matches in Cincy and they weren't pretty. But scraped and clawed his way to the finals where he then played better tennis.

Fergie
11-17-2005, 11:54 PM

Rogi said in his interview that because of the ankle injury he wasn't able to get on court, run or do weights so his stamina must have dropped a bit over the weeks out. I really admire him for putting himself on the line when he clearly isn't as match fit as he'd like to be for this tournament. :worship: Of course, staying up to watch footie until 4.30 am doesn't help! :(

MissMoJo
11-18-2005, 12:10 AM
After watching the match I think, the 1st set being as easy as it was ,rogi expected guille to lose the match on his own dfs and eus, and he seemed to just mentally check out in the 2nd set. When guille got some confidence from that and started playing better into the 3rd, roger realized he was playing a real match again and started playing better himself and closed it out....but yeah, still pretty weird. What's with him yelling 'idiot' when he misses shots now? i hope that's not something permanent

TenHound
11-18-2005, 02:42 AM
Wonder what movie he watched during the 2nd set? Fun match. I've never seen him so relaxed on court, since this is the only non-single elimination tournament. He seemed to put weight more comfortably on his foot, and was able to hit his flat backhand again. Should be ready for Saturday. I'm just praying that Sun. he's able to pull off a best of 5 on 24 hrs. rest. Both of them seemed to be having a reasonably good time of it.

Too bad top tennis & being relaxed & having fun are so mutually exclusive.

I had a good laugh when I read that, even if I don't care about football. But Roger is obviously as crazy about it as I am on his tennis. I also get up in the middle of the night to watch his matches. And I have similar lapses the following day ;)

It's quite difficult for every non-swiss to understand why he went to bed so late to follow the swiss soccer tie match... The participation of Switzerland in the World Cup is something that really doesn't often happen, so yeah I can understand why he stood awake (in the meantime Rog's SF was still locked before Coria's match)...
