Worst match of 2005 you have seen?

Here's one for the harsh, or tough. Here's my choices. I have selected them based on whether a player was dreadful or whether the match was just a.... snoozefest.

Malisse v Lee (Queen's), humiliatingly easy.
Monfils v Gaudio (Lyon), shameful tanking
Berdych v Gaudio (Paris AMS) tanked.. again, disgrace.
Stepanek v Roddick (Queens) Stepanek, when playing a shotmaker, is a good match up, but when playing a Roddick-type, is just DULL.
Henman v Massu (Cincinnati)- Massu tanked, appalling.
Nadal v Robredo (Madrid)- I dunno, Robredo just kinda bores me with his style of play, and Nadal never really shone in this despite winning.

Kiefer - Massu .. Same thing.. :ras:

Safin-Robredo RG-4th round. that was a sheer 3 1/2 hour torture. It was very frustrating and painful through out the match to watch safin play the way he did.

These guys have never met on the tour, so if you saw them play at your local club that doesnt count.

easily the worst match i have ever seen.

clement beat nieminen 60 61 in sydney quals, all clement had to do was get the ball back so nieminen could spray the ball somewhere

a tank, i have no doubt!!!

flip was known to be withdrawing from the MD, giving the loser of the above match direct entry into the main draw as LL.

Karlovic-Fish at the USO was quite a yawner, I was forced to watch that one because it was the last match on the schedule that day and all the other matches were done.

I saw a few games of Jiri Novak-Dick Norman at the USO, Jiri was hurt and playing at about 10%, and still far better than Dirty Dick.

These guys have met at Madrid qualies and itīs up to me if I want to take this one. Next time either make a better research or learn to read

Sabau vs. Agassi USO 1st round.

Crowd atomosphere was good but it was just a butchering. Sabau really couldn't win a point unless Agassi got bored, tried to hit winners, but hit the ball long or wide instead. It didn't seem like an ATP level match.

You can add the Agassi v. Gaudio Miami match to the list of Gaudio tanks. That's the one where Gaudio attempted very possibly the stupid shot I've ever seen (a between the legs dropshot from the service line while Agassi was at the net) and failed miserably.

I actually left the aforementioned Fish-Karlovic classic to watch Dre-Sabau on the big screen in front of Ashe  Both of these matches were indeed horrendous. Sabau just looks out of place above the Challenger level.

Every ATP tour level match that Donald Young played in this year. He needs to stick with Juniors/Futures until he develops more.

On a personal level, Gambill v HT Lee in San Jose. 59 unforced errors in a 2 set match, yikes.

Gambill vs. Massu at the US Open - Now I can understand why Jan Mike has slipped so low in the rankings, he had trouble keeping a rally going for longer than two shots without a pathetic unforced error.

Spadea vs. Goldstein at Newport - I like both of these guys but this match was very poor quality and resembled more of a challenger event than an ATP level semifinal.

Tons of WTA matches...

I only will complain against my favorites:

Fernando González vs. Peter Luczak at Coste du Sauipe 1st round :o I cannot understand how Gonzo choked against an average player who defeated two weeks earlier.

Marat Safin vs. Taylor Dent (Indian Wells): Horrible, Marat came after won the AO and figured like favorite for the tournament, but Marat choked this time again like all years in Indian Wells :smash:

Henman v Massu (Cincinnati)- Massu tanked, appalling.
Completely agree. The poorest match of Nico that I had seen in my life :o

Sjeng Schalken v. Andrei Pavel at Rotterdam, in terms of atmosphere (what a lousy Dutch crowd) but also of play. It was not a pretty sight.

Even worse was Karol Kucera  against Davide Sanguinetti in Rosmalen. It was Karol's comeback match after injury and you could really tell.

But the worst has to be Igor Andreev & Nikolay Davydenko v. Feliciano Lopez & Fernando Verdasco. It has got to be the worst doubles match I have ever seen in my life. How the Russians managed to reach the Moscow final later in the year is beyond me.

Preferences are preferences- everyone has their own and if you don't like someone's preferences that's cool, but no reason to slag them off because of them- hence my response.

All the QF of RG : they were over long and so boring...

Two of 'em were straight sets, with only one close set, so how could they be overlong? And the all-Argentine clash in the bottom half was possibly the best match of the tournament for me, a superb showcase of Puerta's flamboyant shotmaking abilities. Although I agree that Davydenko-Robredo was three and a half hours of wholly unnecessary pain.

You could afford to, supporting Nadal. :p Personally I just sat there and held my fingers over my ears to cut out the deafening bang of the MTF balloon popping. Ridiculously excessive hype, and for what? Puerta had far better matches in the bottom half, but everyone just wanted to get them over to get to "the main event."

I remember he did it once and it actually worked and won the point  He lost the match, but the umpire congratulated him after that shot  I`m not sure, but I think it was during a match in Australia, it was hardcourt for sure... (maybe his 3š round match against Hrbaty in 2005 AO?)

Yep, Eurosport went over to the match in the second set just in time to see him pull it off. Shame that he still ended up losing the match in the end.

For me, the worst match this year was Fernando Gonzalez - Nicolas Lapentti in Kitzbuhel, Austria. I'm sure that this match was fixed : Gonzalez lost 6-4 5-7 3-6.
YOU MUST SEE THIS MATCH !!!

Andy Roddick - Fernando Verdasco at Masters Serie in Rome is not bad too.
Roddick leads 7-6 5-3* and 40-00* (3 match points) on Verdasco's serve.
At 00*-40 Fernando makes a double fault and the chair umpire says "Game, set and match Roddick" but Andy gives the point to Nando. After this, Andy lost all his tennisk, Verdasco saved all match points and Roddick finally lost 7-6(1), 6-7(3) and 4-6.

WTF? Gonzo didnīt win that match cause he dealt poorly with altitude. His previous match against Marach was a warning and it was no surprise to see him losing against Lapentti who is much better suited to these conditions.
