Tomas! It's funny that people insist I am biased when it comes to Federer, but all of the players that have defeated him I have nothing but kind words for.

Gasquet and Berdych, Bravo! :)

Two of a kind, power, but beautiful and entertaining power at that. Quite a display of athletism. Berdych, way to hand it to the dirtballer, Gaudio completely deserved the beating he was given this afternoon, especially after his behavior against Monfils just last week. What goes around, comes around. The better man won, good luck Tomas. Young players with great games are what keep me interested, while the man is absent.

Kind of like the match Gaudio played with Ginepri yesterday. Close 1st set and then giving up in the second set. This is a real chance for Berdych to get to the final of a TMS event.

btw useless fact: Radek was at Tomas' 1st round match :p

The first set against Ginepri never was really close

Great week for the two Czechs, both semifinalists! :yeah:

For Berdych who did post no impressive results in the Masters Series yet, this is by far his best Masters tournament and he made the quarterfinal/semifinal of a Masters event for the first time in his career! :yeah:

when I got home it was already 5-7 0-5:sad::sad::sad::sad:
Still, theres no denying this has been a good year for Gaston, I think he would have made the TMC if he had done better in the TMS on clay, its a shame he could not play better at those tournaments but Gaston is Gaston. He may be one of the best on clay but you never know what mood he's gonna be in.
Oh, and to all who wanna beat him up over the bagel, let me ask you this:
Are you top 10 in what you do????

He did ok in the Masters Series tournaments on clay. The big problem was that first round upset in US Open - THAT'S why he hasn't qualified for TMC (at least not yet).

Gaston Tankmaster

What is more annoying than his ill-conceived trick shots is his attitude towards tennis. Without having seen the match, I can say with a lot of confidence that he wanted to tank the second set. He just gave up because he probably thought, "Don't feel like playing anymore, might as well tank it and go back home and grab a beer".

Berdych, well played. Good potential from this ball-basher. :clap2:

I don't think for a player of Gaudio's quality on clay a QF and two R16 is good enough when he has the chance to earn some big points on his favourite surface. Also you have to consider the poor performances against Ferrer and Nadal in Rome and Montecarlo and the fact that he lost to C. Rochus in Hamburg.

Even with clay being his best surface, I don't think you can compare a loss to Nadal or Ferrer or C. Rochus to a loss to a player who was then ranked below the 200th place, specially considering the fact that few weeks before Gaudio had reached quarter-finals in Montreal (which proves that he can also have good results in hard courts).

Gaudio tank's the second set again after a close first. After trashing Ginepri, I expected a better performance. He seems to lose confidence when he loses the first set in a surface other than clay. Anyway Berdych is my co-4th favorite so I'm not so bum with this. I hope Berdych beats the crap out of Stepanek and win the title coming from 0-2 against the Croatian choker.

That second set was a farce, Gaudio was loudly booed off at the end by the Paris crowd, he appears to have lost all respect Paris had for him after RG..

Actually not, he did relatively poorly in the 4 events that he had to make the most points in, only 1 QF in these events, that's the reason he is not going to the TMC, he did well enough in Montreal and Paris, but not in his main events.

Well first of all congratulations to Berdych, he was the better player in the 1st set and as for the 2nd set he did well not to lose focus when Gaston decided to check out of the tournament.

It seems Gaudio has a phobia of getting past the QFs in a non-clay event, but as for what went on in his head, who knows and who really cares. I mean he needs to figure it out for himself. Maybe he realised his fate, that he wasn't going to the TMC except as an alternate and decided to not to fight and as for the crowd booing and jeering, well it was very understandable. I mean when he consistently starts serve/volleying then that should be a clear sign, that something funny is going on.

A good tournament ruined by a bad last set.

They're different. But their booing there was not a sign of contempt, disrespect or anything imo. It was a sign of anger. They can boo everybody. Even "their own" players.

I found the crowds very similar this year. They booed PHM repeatedly when he smashed his racket. Also, there was an incident similar to which happened in RG between Nadal and Grosjean (clear that this time did not last nor a third of time of that time) but I don't remember well in what match was.

It was deserved and they believe in equal opportunity booing and jeering.

It was not similar to which happened in RG but i think you're speaking of the Lopčz vs. Malisse match.
