Hi all :) Don't know if anyone's really interested but I took a whole bunch of pics last week at the challenger in Carson.... I'll post some of my faves and if there are any players you like and want more of I can give you more of that player :)

Donald Young, Noam Okun, Amer Delic, Glenn Weiner, Brian Vahaly, and Cecil Mamiit...

Anyway I had a good time, I went Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday for the singles final. It was fun to see tennis at the Challenger level, I enjoyed it :)

These are from Friday (oh, all the ones in the first post were from Tuesday)

Bobby Reynolds played Wesley Whitehouse in a match that was 3h5min long!!! Whitehouse served for the match TWICE in the 2nd set and once in the third, craziness.

Then Amer Delic played Glenn Weiner and beat him easily.

Then Gambill and Goran Dragicevic won their doubles semi pretty routinely

More from Friday.....some more from the doubles semi, and then Gimelstob trashed Guccione 0 and 4

Then from Sunday - Gimelstob beat Delic in the final.

Sorry if no one cared about these but I got some nice pics and didn't want to keep them to myself :)

I have a ton more, especially of Delic, so yeah, I can post more if anyone cares :p

That was an amazing choke by big Wes Whitehouse. These kind of loses can haunt a player for sometime, especially, players on the challenger tour who do not get many chances to shine.

That was an amazing choke by big Wes Whitehouse. These kind of loses can haunt a player for sometime, especially, players on the challenger tour who do not get many chances to shine.Yeah, it was pretty crazy to see, that's for sure. But, Bobby hung around and did play some great tennis in those games, it's not like Wesley just kept DFing and stuff. But yeah, it was pretty poor, but it was one of those matches that was fun to watch b/c of the ups and downs and I didn't really care much who won so I was just enjoying the drama.

Also, I was really disappointed by Donald Young, it was the first time i'd seen him and his immaturity was :o. He has a LONG way to go before he will be able to compete on the tour.

Actually I was just thinking how refreshing it was to see a GM thread devoted to something other than…. so and so bt so, which frankly is becoming quite boring.

Thanks so much Deb and Fee

Cool pictures, thanks for posting...it doesn't look like many people were there in the audience, though? The stands look pretty empty.

Thanks. I liked the pictures very much. I'm always curious about the Challenger tournments. I never have the time to actually look them up. There were a lot of well-known players in that Carson tournament. Nice to see Justin won it.

Also, I was really disappointed by Donald Young, it was the first time i'd seen him and his immaturity was . He has a LONG way to go before he will be able to compete on the tour.

He's a very spoiled little boy and he has no idea how to control his anger. I can understand his frustration because he hasn't won even a set on the ATP tour. His parents and other handlers need to pull him off the Challenger and regular circuits and put him in the low-level Futures so he can learn how to win and also how to control his temper.

The stands look pretty empty.Yeah, it was very empty. :( Too bad, considering admission was free. But it was a last-minute event that replaced one in Louisiana that had been scheduled for right after Katrina hit, and they didn't really publicize it or advertise it or anything. It was too bad.

Thanks. I liked the pictures very much. I'm always curious about the Challenger tournments. I never have the time to actually look them up. There were a lot of well-known players in that Carson tournament. Nice to see Justin won it. This was my first time at one and I enjoyed it. It's so much more intimate than the normal ATP Tourneys (Even the small ones like Scottsdale used to be), the tennis is still good, and it's fun, you get a lot closer and the players are all around watching each other's matches so you get to see them as real regular people, etc. You also really see that the biggest difference between the main tour level and these guys is mental. A guy like Delic has all the shots - great serve, great groundstrokes (esp. his backhand and slice), very good volleys, decent movement for a guy who's 6'5, etc. But he's inconsistent and makes a lot of mental errors. So to me that was fascinating to watch and 'study' - I'd definitely recommend going if you have a chance sometime, especially if the price of admission is free or something real cheap.
He's a very spoiled little boy and he has no idea how to control his anger. I can understand his frustration because he hasn't won even a set on the ATP tour. His parents and other handlers need to pull him off the Challenger and regular circuits and put him in the low-level Futures so he can learn how to win and also how to control his temper.when he first started getting the WCs and stuff, I didn't really pay that much attention or think much of it but as the losses and rumors and all started picking up and then once I saw him act like that in person, I now totally agree with you. I mean, you only have to watch him warm up to see he has potential, but he's just not mature enough to know what to do with it yet, he just needs a lot more time.
