COME ON, JUAN CARLOS!!!!!

You drew a qualifier in the first round. If you can take it to Thomas Enqvist, surely you can defeat a qualifier, baby!

I've been getting way off track in the Juan Carlos thread for TMS Canada, talking bad about the probable champion, so I thought I'd redeem myself and send some positive energy Juan Carlos's way.

GOOD LUCK!! CREAM YOUR QUALIFIER!!

Juan Carlos got through that ever-important second round match, and he was looking very good at the end of it and had no trouble serving it out at love.

He faces Taylor Dent tomorrow, who plays serve/volley.

C'MON BEAUTIFUL!! You broke my jinx tonight, take another American!!!

J.C. Ferrero d. T. Dent 6-7, 6-1, 7-6

Leo7
08-08-2002, 09:38 PM
YES! Ferrero wins it 6-7, 1-6, 7-6! great comeback after dropping the 1st set! hitman is right, Ferrero is serving better, hitting amazing passing shots, and playing MUCH better!:D

and the best part is he proved Pat McEnroe wrong TWICE, by beating Blake and Dent!

he will next play compatriot Robredo (remember their great tiebreak in the 5th set match last year at the Open?) or Arthurs!

Ferrero Versus Moya: History in the Making

Juan Carlos Ferrero and Carlos Moya arrived this week with two of the hottest records on clay, but with forgettable seasons on hard courts. Now, these two friends have defied all statistical expectations and will make history as the the first Spaniards ever to clash in a Tennis Masters Series semifinal on hard courts. They've also guaranteed that a Spaniard will reach the final here for the first time in 29 years.

Ferrero set up Saturday's historic meeting with Moya by fending off Australian Wayne Arthurs 6-4, 7-6(2). So far this week, Ferreira has been the only player to quash Arthur's notorious serve. "It's really difficult to play against Arthurs," Ferrero said. "You have to make winners whenever you can. I like to play with this kind of player because I read him very well all the time."

Before coming to Cincinnati, the No. 10 seed had won this year's Tennis Masters Monte-Carlo trophy and reached the final at Roland Garros, but carried a poor 5-6 hard court record. Although Ferrero has long claimed he's as dangerous on hard courts as on clay, he's never proved that with results. Now, he's two matches away from claiming his third Tennis Masters Series title on a surface that has traditionally not favored Spain's tennis brigade.

"I've played all my life on hard courts," Ferrero said. "When I started in Spain, I just had hard courts, no clay courts. So I practiced a lot of the time in hardcourts, like three or four years in a row."

Ferrero and Moya have met six times in their careers, and the 22-year-old Ferrero has won five of those matches, including at this year's Monte-Carlo final. The 25-year-old Moya hasn't overcome his younger countryman since 1999, when they met for the first time in Barcelona.

"I beat him on hard courts and on clay courts, so maybe I'll go to the courts with a little bit more of a chance than him," Ferrero said. "But he's not going to forget the last five times and he's going to want to win tomorrow, of course, like me."

i liike this article, but there are a few mistkaes. Ferrero is actually the No. 8 seed, not No. 10, and i noticed they called him Ferreira instead of Ferrero once!

Well, what can I say. It was an amazing tournament. I have matches that are some of the most thrilling I've seen in years. He was just outplayed today.

Here's hoping Juan Carlos can rest, train, and get his mind back on track for the Open. I just can't help but think he's going to do very, very well :)

Layla

Congratulations to Juanqui for reaching the semis of a hard court Masters tournament! That is some achievement! :D

If he retains this form, he can do a lot of damage on the hards courts. The road to Shanghai is still wide open! :)

Leo7
08-10-2002, 07:30 PM
yup, Moya just outplayed Juanqui today, he was so agressive. but i did think Juan Carlos got a bad call on break point at 4-5 in the 2nd, that serve was ON THE LINE!

anyway, this week should definitely boost Ferrero's confidence going into the 4th GS of the year. and give him more points to reach the Masters Cup!

YIPEE for Juanqui!:bounce:
