I'm from the States and I always thought that people were blowing Blake's US Open performance way out of proportion. Rafa was obviously uncomfortable and off his game when Blake beat him. The match against Agassi was predestined to be won by Agassi. Blake made it look good. Yes Blake had a win in Europe but I thought this would be the match that showed who he was. I'd love to see this one because it sounds like Blake went back to being Blake. The official stats show the match lasted one hour and nine minutes.

Don't want to jinx anybody so I won't comment on who I think will be in the final. I will say Ljubicic has had a great indoor season though. ;)

If the Agassi match result was predestined, it was only because Blake made the mistake of looking across the net and thinking too much about who he could potentially beat - the same with Ginepri in the semis. He had that match won but failed to close it out. Still, there are some weaknesses remaining in his game when playing away from home, notably against big servers on quick courts. Wasn't the head-to-head going into this one 2-0 to Ljubo, both in 2003 (indoors in DC and at RG)? That's why it was stupid of Grinder to suggest that Blake could get away with not playing his best and still win. Ljubicic's year and ranking deserve a little more respect than that, and Blake has evidently never found a way of coping with his serve. He's not the best returner out there, it's safe to say.

Argue with him that he is an idiot for saying players are dopers who were tested positive or explain him what it's okay for you to hate Roddick, Hewitt and others, but why it's not okay for him to hate Federer or Ljubicic.

I have absolutely nothing against Jogy's relative lack of English skills, some of the so-called English used by native speakers on this board makes me want to vomit. I refuse to believe, however, that the repetitious nature of his posts is anything other than the sign of a troll. If he's going to hate on players, then for God's sake do it in style - even people with English as their second language can manage that.

Moreover, when you find me in EVERY SINGLE Roddick or Hewitt-related thread that is started in GM, running them into the ground, then the comparison is justified.

But in this thread, I think he actually tried quite hard to do it with style. I mean he didn't post "Ljubibitch", "Ljubicic is an asshole" or things like that, he tried to do it the Mickey Mouse way pointing out Ivan's little wins in Metz and Vienna while losing the big one in Madrid.

That was when James went for broke on everything.

I give props to Ljubicic for being too good today, but James Blake is too good to be beaten by Ljubicic on a slower hardcourt when Ljubicic's serve is a weakened a bit.

Rogiman, I am usually not involved in MTF politics (or ever post nowdays, for that matter), yet I will politely ask you to stop the Nazi jokes. Not funny. I don't know if you're from Israel or not, and spreading around laughter regarding the holocaust might be funny when we're around other Jewish friends, but this is not to be laughed at in international forums.

Doug Adler, one of the commentators on the tv coverage I was watching, said, Blake never learned from his mistake during the match with Ljubicic. Ljubicic would serve wide to his forehand and Blake tried to return hard, with the same result. I didn't watch the match but that's what Adler was saying.

slipmaskin
11-02-2005, 08:28 PM
Um yeah, so the main difference in this match was ultimately the serve (and as an extension of that, Blake not being able to return it). Practically every time Ljubicic was down in his own service games, the patented Croat-serve came roaring. Case in point, 15-40 at 5-4 in the second set. A couple of serves later, concluding with an ace for good measure, and Ljubicic had won the match. That's really all there is to it.

This Ivan is really really showing off his potentials, and is getting better with age. But he can drive people crazy by opening the year on fire and then hibernating in the middle of the year and then starting the fire again later in the year! Imagine if he continued the great play in the mid-year? He'd be secured a spot for the Championship at the end of the year.

or the 2 finals weeks before. ohh wait he did.

Ivan's ranked 8 in the world. Blake is ranked 25. Ivan's supposed to justify his seeding and beat Blake.

Ivan's never won a masters series event. I'd like to see him do that. Then I'll be jumping up and down for joy. To be up 2 sets to love in a masters series final only to watch it slip away ....

Ivan put out a lot of effort earlier this year. To sustain that level of play 11 months of the year is too much to ask of any one of these pros. Just check the injured list for those who are not competing now.
