Paulo :D Great fight in the second set!

He started the match rather poorly, giving away free points with UEs. He looked down and out in the second set, only winning 1 point on Sanguinetti's serve in the first 4 games. Then, at 5-4, he started to fight and made some magnificent gets (similar to those he made against Roddick) to give him 2 SPs but both were saved. 0-3 down in the TB, he won 7 of the next 8 points to squeeze out the second set. He led 4-2 in the third, got broken back, then broke again and served out the match. :)

A typical PHM´s match

He usually doesn't fight. Only in front of his home crowd, I think.

He's going to lose to Gonzo but what the heck. I'm glad he pulled out this match.

Yeah, valid point, but match was a classic Mathieu´s show, PHM was shivering every time he went down 0-15 or 15-30, he looked like he had lost, he recovered, then when he looked he was gonna nail it for sure, comitted 4ue´s in a row to get broken again in 3rd set, and finally wins it. He´s still the number 1, Verdasco has to fight a lot to surpass him yet

Well done Paulo!!! That was fastidious but he did it. After his cruel loss against Youzhny in 2OO2 and all the 1st round losses in the Paris MS, he won his first match ever in Bercy...
Good luck against Gonzalez :)

Tell me about it. :rolls: That game was just typical of him. Went for too much on all 4 shots.

Yeah well, I'm so happy for Paulo. And it's good to see him working with Tulasne. I hope something good will come out of it. If only someone could fix his head, he has such amazing shots we could see today again and then losing the important points only because of nerves. :help: At least he fought till the end and won!!! :woohoo: :yippee:   :worship:

Don't worry. This is sarcasm here.
Believe me, he is 100% aware of how nerve-racking it is (not to say frustrating) for the crowd to follow his matches... :o

I was there and there were 2 completly different players in that match the one of the begining, unable to return davide's serve and the one of the end who was on fire  at the end of the match he said he wouldnt have won without the support of the crowd and that he was really happy to win his 1st match ever on this court :p

He was not supposed to win that match seeing how he played. That was so frustrating. He didn't attack or anything for most of the time. It was not a beautiful match (i would have normally left if it was not for Paulo being one of the players...).
PHM made 50 UEs (but 43 winners too whereas Sanguinetti only made 31)...
He won because of us. I received food on my head, was insulted, laughed at (but some children went next to me to help me cheer him too because maybe i looked cool for them, i don't know, plus i was asked for an autograph and to pose for a picture with someone showing my red hands :retard: I refused of course) because i was so loud...I looked completely mad: very stressed, too loud and vocal, too much into it (so they were all: "Déstresse, déstresse" and laughing), plus i think i made their ears bleed ("Ta gueule!").
Some posh families in front ofd me werfe all with their hands on their ears...They were at a tennis match. What did they expect? Of course some ppl are going to show passion and do it loudly...
I don't think that will be enough against Gonzo if he plays as he did today...
Even with the crowd as a "second man" on the court to try to spur him on, he didn't play well enough today so if it were the same: cya PHM...

Yes, who expects PHM matches to be predictable and maybe he can have some fun against Gonzo, who has a lot to play for in the next round and congrats on the win, but he will be eternally frustrating.

To be fair, the crowd cheered wildly for Paulo but did not boo Grandpa or anything. They even applauded his shots on quite a few occasions.
