Tie break now in the second set. Aussies have set point. 6-3.

6-4 now.

6-5... getting tighter... but two points on thier serve.

7-5!! OI OI OI

This is a must win doubles match for the Aussies. I don't think they can take both singles tomorrow.

Disgraceful by Rosset and Roger. 0% receiving points in the 5th set. Roger double faulting.   I hope he can win tomorrow. I don't want that blue collar scrapper beating him, but its all in Roger's hands. He might feel too sorry for himself to play well just like what happened to him with David. Swiss are goners. I just hope Spain will win the trophy this year. I think maybe Roger should just give up on these DC ties and save himself for the tour. He can't be a one man team. Too much pressure, don't know how it could be any fun really.

Michel did great with Verkerk and was the reason they made it this far. I am just sadden that they didn't get any of those 3 break points in the 2nd set. Roger must feel like shit right now. Roger might not beat hewitt tomorrow so that 5th rubber probably won't even matter. I just hope he will be able to put this tie behind him when he is playing in Vienna. I hated that Kafel had to go through this shit in the mid 90s and I really hate that my favorite player has to go through it as well; being a one-man team is just impossible. :banghead:

credit to wayne & todd they played great, but the Swissies had their chances...(how's your ear, Todd?)

If Australia wins, the finals are just a formality. The same can be said for the Swiss really... Spain won't win Davis Cup finals on grass. As much as I'd like to pretend otherwise, they simply won't. That's almost like asking the USA to win the finals on clay (today that is, not in 1995;)). The finals aren't going to be very interesting at all.... oh well.

Chloe le Bopper
09-20-2003, 12:14 PM
As for Roger being under too much pressure to be a one man team - wtf are you talking about? He hasn't dropped a SET in Davis Cup - a SET - in how many matches? Oh yes, clearly the pressure is getting to him!

Aussie_Kim
09-20-2003, 02:52 PM
Congrats Aussies!
I can't help it I'm biased ;)
I reckon if it was the Aussie vs Spain on hard court it would still be close.
Anyway, I just want the Aussies to win so I can go to the DC final!
Anyway, nothing's decided yet. I'm tipping Aussies to win the tie 3-2 tho!

The doubles win was crucial no doubt. But, as Aussie Kim says, it's not over yet. I've seen Kratochvil play very well, and I've seen Poo play really badly.... so I think ikratochivil has a solid chance of beating Poo, and Roger is certainly the favorite to win against Lleyton.

Dirk
09-20-2003, 03:03 PM
Rebecca doesn't matter if he wins tomorrow. Its still out of his hands. He is a one man team and I never mentioned pressure. I am just annoyed and feel sorry for him. They should have done alot better in that 5th set. 0% on receiving points in the 5th set.

Experimentee
09-20-2003, 03:16 PM
Swiss should have taken the oppotunity at 0-40 in the 2nd set. They fell apart after winning the 3rd.
Theres no way Swiss will win the tie now, even if Federer wins i dont see Michel beating Mark. Thats the problem when your country only has one good player.

Marc Rosset might as well play himself vs Scud
Kratochvil is about as much use as a doormat.

don't let Hackie read that comment...

Well, we must still cheer for the SUI team and not give up. I guess it was Rogi who contributed to the loss today... too bad.

And it is so tough for a team to win [the whole thing] on the strength of one player w a little help fr one or two once in a while... has any team won the DC title w one strong player???

Also so tough when that one player must play doubles as well as singles... who else in the top tier has to do that?? Plus SUI doesn't have a real dbles team anyway...

Rogi must be mentally and physically tired and has to play first up tomorrow... vs. Lleyton who's playing better than Mark now. Talk about pressure...

In a way I agree that Rogi s concentrate on the tour but he loves playing for his country, as does Juanqui, and it must be wonderful to be there! I only saw the SUI d USA in 2001 on tape and that was great!! I wish I could be there to cheer them on, same w the ESP team.

Rogi loves the team spirit and the fans... I w love for SUI to win this tie but all vs. them... if they do, it will be a well-earned and well-deserved victory.

SO... HOPP SCHWEIZ ALLEZ LA SUISSE!! GO SWITZERLAND!!

HOPP ROGI!! HOPP MICHA!!

Don't give up... it's not over til it's over... in the words of Yogi Berra and he's right!

AND don't assume that ESP will win either... weirder things have happened altho I want them to win... don't fancy them on grass in AUS so I want SUI to win too!!

VAMOS! ESPANA!!

Dirk
09-21-2003, 09:43 AM
I hope he is ok. Roger had his chance to serve it out in the 3rd set. Sadly Roger has mental issues still. Why would they let them play in the cold wind? That causes injuries (it is cold there right now isn't it) I hope Roger will feel better but I really hope the groin injury is just a rumor.

It was not cold here today. It was actually very nice weather, very sunny. Though it was a bit windy, it wasnt cold.
Roger choked and he blew it. The weather is no excuse, and he didnt seem to have trouble moving, he just played too conservatively when he was up and let Lleyton back into the match. The 5 set doubles from yesterday could have been a factor at the end.

Dirk

If Federer wants to be a consistent champion he needs to stop chokes like this happening. He did the same thing in the 3rd set againt flipper but was lucky to recover.

Great thing about champions like Sampras is that they would never give a match away from such a winning position. It is something Federer is yet to learn.

There is no shame to Roger in this match. He played high quality tennis. He was heroically attempting to carry the Swiss nation on his shoulders to victory. He did very well to singlehandedly get the Swiss this far. Unfortunately for Roger, Davis Cup is a team event.

Lleyton played with heart and fire and guts. What a wonderful demonstration of tenacity from him! But, he wouldn't have been in the position to be Davis Cup hero without his team to support him. Toddy and WayneO were part of the whole effort.

What a classic Davis Cup match!! It's matches and atmosphere like this that make Davis Cup so inspiring. Good luck to the Aussies!!
