I'm thinkin Roddick in two, but who knows...I think Monfils could be capable of the upset. But capability means absolutely nothing in tennis.

I've my fingers crossed for Andy and will be very disappointed if he loses.

But, it will be a great breakthrough for Monfils if he can win. It would mean a lot for him.

Allez Andy :bounce: Show the Frenchboy why he admires your serve so much in the first place. ;)

edit
From atp site:

Roddick on Monfils: "He plays just like me. He's very exciting, he'll be pumped up and angry on the court and do his whole thing. I remember the first time I was watching him at Wimbledon last year and I saw this guy serve and I said "Who is that?" They said "He's No.1 in Juniors." I'd heard his name before but I'd never seen him play. I said "I've seen that serve before, it looks familiar...

"I think it's good for someone to show their personality. I did the whole thing when I was 18, 19 years old, it's just a little bit of being excited and youthful and itís good for tennis. The more personality we show the better. I think he's good for the game. He's not the typical French. He plays hard on every shot, big and in your face. He brings and attitude to the court, which I think is good for him. He's playing very well and has no pressure. It will be a tough match. Iím looking forward to it."

Why do people think that Monfils is Roddick's clone? Monfils 's serve is modelled along Roddick's serve but his ground game is different enough to make their styles different.

They do have a similar game but Roddick has a better serve slightly probably better forehand and Monfils has better movement, defence and backhand. But the differences aren't so big, they're generally similar.

rofe and I agree on something. Blasphemy!

I'd love to see Roddick chase down a ball in the back corner and fall into a split reaching for it, jump back up again immediately and chase down a dropshot crosscourt :p

That said, there are similarities, which others have noted :) Primarily the service motion.

I giggled too. Not because there is anything wrong with that, just because it sounded funny.

yeah, I think that Monfils is a much better athlete than Roddick, and his "upside" might be a little better than Roddick's too. I am a Roddick fan, but I just think that in time Monfils will have more game. No way around it. Although tomorrow, I think that Roddick will win in straights, seeing as how Monfils is still inexperienced.

In my opinion Roddick in 2 something like 6:4 7:6

Monfils reminds me a lot of what Andy was like when he was 18/19. The first time I saw Andy play, I became a fan. So much enthusiasm, so much positive energy he brought onto the court - he was so exciting to watch. Same with Monfils.

I love them both

Roddick's greatest strengths: serve, FH
Monfil's greatest strengths: serve, FH

Did he say that?

They're no clones.
After winning through, Roddick predicted a close-fought final with Monfils.

"It will be tough. Monfils plays just like me," Roddick said. "The first time I saw his serve I thought I was looking in the mirror with the motion he has."

Go figure!!

Exactly. I remember (and kinda miss) that Andy. I remember when he broke his ankle or something, about 3/4 years back now, and he was back really soon afterwards playing at Queen's with such enthusiasm.

"The white one or the black one"? Because they're defined by their skin color. Ridiculous.

More to the point, if they're black and white that rather invalidates the concept of clones.

Well, to be fair, I don't think they are clones, I wrote that after Roddick's interview. Monfils has much more a defensive game, this guy seems to take the most pleasure at running after every ball. They have similarities in some of their strength.
I wonder how he's not injured more often with all the jumps/slides/splits he does in a match.

I believe Gael has
a great shot!

With Roddick, nothing is garunteed
nowadays so hopefully Monfils
can cease the moment!

With the clone talk and what not having
only seen him play once or twice, is
it fair to say Monfils has more \variety than Roddick?

You do know don't you that kitten clones don't necessarily have the same markings as their progeniturs?

Monfils is better on defence but I remember when Roddick was young he tried defending well but as his power game grew he became lazy :)
