Congrats to Marcos for making his first ATP Level final. Hopefully, you can continue your success in the final. It's great to see players from countries like Cyprus, Finland, etc. be successful.

Marcos Baghdatis defeats David Nalbandian 6-2 7-6 (3)

Oh and GWH, the server was too busy during the Baghdatis match...

Marcos is a class act! Pure legend. Probably the most entertaining player on court (for his personality). Has great charisma, and is a really nice guy. He is really great to see live too! Saw him at surbiton twice and also at queens :woohoo:

I was wondering what had happened to him, but it seems he is making the breakthrough now finally!

Hey, in all this news about andi murray recently, we had forgotten the other junior phenon on the tour. Hope Marcos now wins the tournament

He had a very bad injury a Career threatenning injury in his arm....he decided to take the hard decision of an operation in February and has been trying to get fit again .....he is working with a new coach now....I hope next year will be his break through year.....

Good job by Marcos. Wanted Nalby to win to enhance his TMC chances. Anyways, hope he will be able to perform well enough in Paris to take the opportunity now available.

Back to Marcos: seems he is an unrefined version of Nalby with a much bigger and more consistent serve. Hope he has an injury-free next year. Nalby, go buy a good serve for once. You're wasting too much talent.

Exactly! Its nice to marcos having good results! I was getting abit bored with the constant ass licking of that scottish bastard murray  Hopefully they will take their attention off murray for a moment, and talk about the true class act.

When I saw marcos playing on the grass, to be honest he wasnt that impressive. But seeing him this week, he has very much impressed me like he did agaisnt federer us open 04. His shots on the run actually remind of me federer :D You think you have hit a winner against him, and he tears down the ball and hits a winner past the opponent :yeah:

Actually, David didn't serve that badly in this match. It was poor shot selection (bad dropper here, bad volley there) that cost him this match. Had he solidified the break he had in the second set, we'd be in a third right now.

He is also alot faster round the court I think. With a nicer forehand (especially on the run). I dont think he has the lacking mental aspect that david has either.

The funny thing is that Marcos's toughest match so far in this tournament was hard fought 5-7 7-6 7-6(6) victory over Bob Bryan in the final round of Qualies.

Thats one of the pyschological aspects yes, but i feel he will be alot stronger in the mind than nalbandian. Everyone knows david isnt the strongest mentally.

Agreed. That's one thing that David would do well to work on...although lately he hasn't let the bad calls get to him. And he's worked on the serve. I would recommend, in the off-season, that he work with a psychologist.

I would love to see david kick roddicks ass again, I dont think david would lose to roddick. Especially considering how bad the duck is this year. David knows how to beat the duck :D I am sure he will if he meets roddick at paris.

Ok, sigmagirl91. I guess he needs to get himself a mental therapist to help him out. He just lacks it when he gets deep into tournaments. I am not saying Marcos is not a good shotmaker. He is, but David has all but a very good serve and head to be in the top 5 consistently. He just disappoints.

I hear you. He does have a flatter forehand and more consistent on the run like you say. Marcos is not getting any attention like all the other young guns are. I am hoping he pulls a surprise on them next year. He has enough in his arsenal, bar injury to be in the top 20 now, IMO. And with experience, to get to the top 10.

He is quite impressive. Like you say, he's got to stay injury-free in order for that to happen.

He is also very good for the game too, really nice guy and an asset to the tennis world.

Concerning the forehand, I dont think david is able to step up and snap winners off like marcos can. Marcos can really accelerate the forehand out of no where. David has a solid forehand, but I dont think he is able to do the damage that marcos can. But marcos is a more attacking player anyway than david.

You're right....David is not the most aggressive player out there. Solid, but not as aggressive as he could be.

You're right....David is not the most aggressive player out there. Solid, but not as aggressive as he could be.
Davids reason for not winning a slam I feel is:
- Sometimes not aggressive enough, when he should finish the point.
- Lacks the good serve to win him easy points, and take the pressure off his service games. Because he is such a good returner, but I always worry when he is serving because he gets broken so easily.
- Mental problems that we discussed earlier

Although, if he had the big serve (I still think he could probably win a slam, minus the other problems)

As with most things, Joe, in order to get to the top, you have to remove those obstacles. You have to put in the hard work, the soul-searching, whatever it takes to get to the top. To me, his problem is psychological (and physiological too, if I might say so myself).

Sure he can work on the pyschological side, but its possible that he may not be able to overcome the problem. Maybe thats the case for him too

The lack of aggression, is easily worked on (and can be changed as easy as anything, thats if he wants to).

As for the serve, I think it would be very difficult for him to get a great serve. No matter how hard he worked on it, there are things in sport that no matter how hard we work on (some of just wont have it). It isnt really a liability, but I feel sometimes its a weakness. Because of that, I doubt he would even work on it.

The physiological-maybe not. The psychological? It's possible-if he can identify his mental barriers. In any case, if it can't be worked out, it can be worked around.

Nalbandian has to make better use of his talent. He has to worry less about rally championships in Cordoba and start to work on his head and his physics a little bit.

Wonderful!! Hope this is the breakthrough I've been waiting for. Hard to say he's been the slowest youngster to emerge, since he just got his own coach. I hope they've made whatever adjustments to his forehand, or his workout regimen, are needed to keep him from constantly injuring his elbow. He's a delight to watch, definitely my fave among the youngsters.
