:woohoo: Paris draw already out? I'm so completely focused on Basel right now I completely forgot all about Paris...

But the draw could be worse methinks...

If I've calculated correctly, David is now 4 points behind Gaston (and will hopefully add another few points in Basel) so maybe (hopefully) he won't need that many points from Paris anyway... Of course always depending on how "the others" will do...

BTW: Has Lleyton withdrawn?

Yes.
Now, it's Roger, Rafa, Carlos, Andre, and Lleyton.

it would be so great to see david playing the master in shangai :)

sigmagirl91
10-29-2005, 01:52 AM
It would be. In order for that to happen, David has to win this tournament and reach the quarters of Paris....this, of course, assuming that Davydenko loses his opening round match.

Davydenko is now playing wonderfully, and I believe he's gonna win more matches.
David has a tough trip.
Beside. Gaudio is good someshow.

Thus far, Davydenko's had a poor indoor season, while David and Ivan have had impressive results. If that trend continues, I'm afraid that those two will edge him out for a place in Shanghai. Fortunately, David and Nik are on the opposite sides of the draw in Paris, and Agassi will have to wait until this tournament is over to see if his place is still secure.

If Davydenko loses in his opening round match, and David makes it to the quarters (assuming, of course, that he wins Basel), David will make Shanghai. And Ljubicic? He must make the semis (and David would have to lose in the quarters) to beat out David for a place and win Paris to knock Davydenko out.

That's a lot of math. Then again, I never said math was my strong suit. In the meantime, we must sit back and watch.

Agreed! :p
What we can do right now is to wait and see.
Whatsoever, I believe David will try his best and show his ambition.
Now the problem is : can David win Basel? So far it is still a proble. ;)
We just assume these results with a positive attitude :p

David winning two matches and making to the quarters means that Ivan'd need an outstanding tournament and reaching the final. (to leave David behind)

sigmagirl91
10-29-2005, 04:41 AM
Then I stand corrected. Ivan was eliminated early from Lyon, which means he gained no points (I guess because he used up all his optional points?), while David could gain 49 points to make up for his "fifth-best result" in Rotterdam. If David ends up winning, then Ivan HAS to win Paris to overtake Davydenko and reach the final to overtake David.

Ferrer. :scared:
I hope Nalbo's not too tired, cause he can some damage there. He needs the points for Shanghai and for his ranking. He's now 12th in the entry rankings.
Bonne chance en Paris Nalbo. (some one correct me if I got that wrong in French.)

Gooner...good try with the french...its Bonne chance a Paris ;) ......I just hope david plays well....its just annoying that he always has a last surge at the end of the year...and plays well...if only there could be some consistency and he would get to the year end without having to rely on someone pulling out...or for some miracle....

Thanks for correcting my French Sophia. :) I really have to brush up on my French!
Totally agree with you Sophia. I just hope next year he can learn from his mistakes this year and be more consistent throughout the year.
However I'm pleased he's found his good tennis again and is backing it up with results. After the U.S Open I wrote here saying that I hoped Nalbo would be more consistent, and 2 QF and 2 SF was just what the doctor ordered.

Couldn't agree with you more. If he had been more consistent throughout the year, Shanghai would be more of a certainty. A late-season surge and/or withdrawals of other players (if the German press is to be believed) is not what I consider a "good effort".

i dont like the draw at all, roddick in QF, HE CAN BEAT RODDICK, BUT THEN LJUBICIC in the semis for a place in houston sounds scaring to me, i hope tomas johansson to beat ljubicic and then lose to david.
we will have to wait, anyway is a good year of david,he is looking for a place in the TMC untill the last tournament of the year, and that is good.

What I'm really happy about this season is that Nalbo has been relatively injury free, apart from his liver virus/condition in the early spring.
He hasn't got the results in alot of TMS events, and he suffering a bit now for it. But he's been really consistent from the U.S Open onwards. The draw is not that bad for Nalbo, and I'm convinced he can beat both Roddick and Ljubicic. Don't forget if it wasn't for Ljubo saving BP after BP with aces Nalbo would've beaten him. The last time he beat A-Rod was on carpet.

I don't know what to think about this draw, but I'm really curious about whether he'll make it or not. I think he deserves to be in Shanghai, and I'd love to see him there...

To be honest after Cincy I thought he had no chance of making Shanghai.
But since then he's been getting the results and these possible withdrawals make it a real possibility.
I really like to see him play the Masters again, especially against Agassi. Their match 2 years ago was the best of the tourney and a real classic.
But first of all Nalbo has to focus on Paris and win as many matches there as possible; not only for Shanghai but also to help his entry ranking.

:yeah: agree 100%. I also believe he can beat Roddick and Ljub. with no problem but only if he's in a good day, I believe David is one of those players
who on a good day are just unbeatable, but when it's not his day can be beaten EASILY by a qualifier. Just hope all the next days in Paris are his days  so that he can win the whole tournament  . well anything's is possible in the next days and I'd like to see some surprises happen...

but when it's not his day can be beaten EASILY by a qualifier.

yeah i think you are talking about his loose against baghdatis but baghdatis was playing sooo well, and david was not at his best okay but i think baghdatis will be at least a top 30 player next year so i'm not so disapointed of this loose :p i would be more disapointed if he lose in early round in paris

crazy_nanine
10-30-2005, 11:42 PM
I don't mean only baghdatis or a specific player, yes baghdatis is a very good player and i also believe he's going to be a top player, even top 10, so soon but as you said at that day for example against baghdatis David was not playing his best even though he played a great match just the day before it, and it was a short match that i think didn't affect him physically. I believe if he played that day like he played the day before he would've beat baghdatis easily...it just wasn't his day if you know what I mean :)

Viken01
10-31-2005, 12:00 AM
yeah i unfortunately understand, david is david, playing so great a day and so sucking the next day :p i don't know how he can change it because phisically he is not tired at all. I remember the match against hewitt at the AO it was a great match i can't forget it.

he lost the 1st and the 2nd set easily but won the 3rd and 4rd easily and was at the edge of winning but couldn't take his opportunity and he lost. So the question is why did he take so much time to enter in his match. I don't know of course but the french commentators were saying he needed to play a lot before entering on the court, at the point of being a little tired so he could be in his match when he start playing. I don't know if it's the solution but that's an annoying problem because he can't win titles and even GS because of this.

Maybe his girlfriend or a new coach could motivate him i don't know :haha:

Agree 100%.
Now he's got a full off-season (2 and a half months) to analyse and reflect on his year; to learn from what he did right and wrong.
Then try to find a coach with good credentials and prepare well for the Aussie Open.
