Always nice to watch hewitt, canas or nalbandian tear players up like henman with lobs :D Pure entertainment at its best! Although, I think hewitt probably has the best lob in the game.

I'm biased, so I'm going to put David Nalbandian as my first choice. I admit, thought with trouble since I dislike the twerp, that Hewitt is great at it too.

:worship: Absolutely! There is no better lob. It's perfection.

Hewitt by far. He has a great lob from both sides and can hit them on the run as well. Federer has the best slice lob I have ever seen.

Hewitt has to be the one, he's simply too good at it, but i think hes trying to use it too often agaisnt net players...

Yup, hes the undisputed king of the topspin lob. I guess his ex Kimmie took a few pointers from her ex in Hewitt, hers isnt a shabby one on the wta tour.

I won't say who is King...;) but now that time has passed I would have to rate Federer's offensive lob highest of the players still playing.
He's lobbed them all, the best, the tallest, the quickest, on every surface, with variety - topspin, underspin, sidespin.
And much of the time his best ones are instinctive reaction for outright winners. Pure genius.

I think Hewitt is very close, and it's understandable that many would still pick him with his potent lob off both wings.
But for me, Federer has produced his at the top level over many years, so I give the nod to him.

My vote for 2012 shot of the year (yes, even better than Dimitrov's) went to Federer's scoop lob off a drop volley a meter away from the net over Karlovic's head at the Australian Open in the tiebreaker with set point against him and allowed Roger to win the set. To come up with that shot from that place on the court against the tallest man on the ATP tour was simply jaw dropping. (It's at 8:12 of the video compilation below, and alone)

Watch these vids in full screen mode and enjoy!:

Sampras and Edberg used to hit some of the best lobs I've ever seen. Djokovic is ridiculously good at lobbing from both sides. Tomic can lob from almost every part of the court pretty comfortably.

Murray, Djokovic probably. I have no idea, they can all hit the occasional great lob, but it's a bit of an irregular shot to be able to really judge them. I think two handers have a big advantage on that side though

Hard to say who has the best forehand lob, but Ferrer has easily the best backhand lob.

I don't know how many Federer matches you watch but his lobs aren't that great. He rarely hits them and when he does they're usually easy putaways or go out. Obviously he hits the occasional genius one but nowhere near enough to justify your comment.

Only quality shot Hewitt had, thats how he took advantage of s&v mugs.

Beside lob he was challenges level of player, but still enough for poor movers and s&v weaklings.

that's why he never had done anything on clay - fake warrior.

djokovic no way lol he is like the worst

so many times he just gives the oponent a perfect smash. shocked novak is even mentioned...

go watch Wimbeldon fed vs novak. he gave fed like 20 lobs all perfect for smash. my dad was screaming at the tv LOL

Just saying he had a great lob would have been enough.

Paire hits some insane lobs with the backhand. His forehand is just horrible in general, and that includes lobs, but he's worth mentioning.

I dont know the exact answer to the thread question, we don't seem to see so many good lobs these days,
but I remember a match of lob mastery....
and that was Chang against a-bit-older McEnroe at the USO. He got lobbed like a gazziliion times. I don't even know how to spell that.
Or maybe this was just an impression?
