Murray has done well, but wait until he's #1 before pronouncing that everyone must accept that he is "the man." I can handle the attacks:) Y'all can attack me, I've done nothing as great as Andy did, but hell, let the boy be! :wavey: Duncan 10-27-2005, 08:25 PM What a result Andy, your the man!! :woohoo: El Legenda 10-27-2005, 08:27 PM I can handle the attacks:) Y'all can attack me, I've done nothing as great as Andy did, but hell, let the boy be! :wavey: He made it to the QF of Basel. Best player in world by far. the Top 10 should quit now. I didn't say he'll win the whole thing or whatever, so please stop it, thanks!:) Duncan 10-27-2005, 08:29 PM when you say that someone is the man, it's just usually a figure of speech but nevermind, people always take stuff said about Andy out of context on here. I'm way used to that by now ClaycourtaZzZz. 10-27-2005, 08:30 PM So if my friend and I proclaim that I am a God, everyone on Earth will worship me? Sweet. :rolls: Realistic things. ok, if you want to hear it that way, he's OUR man. Maime 10-27-2005, 08:30 PM Great result for Murray. After the second set I thought that Berdych would be too strong for him, but the errors that Tomas was making really set these two apart. Scotso 10-27-2005, 08:30 PM RDucky doesn't count. He hates everyone but his Uncle Ivan! His love for his dear uncle borders scarily on incestuous. Corey Feldman 10-27-2005, 08:34 PM Well done Andy, beating Berdy is a much better result than beating Henman... good luck v Fena :yippee: ClaycourtaZzZz. 10-27-2005, 08:38 PM That's perfectly acceptable ;) :pok:) Raquel 10-27-2005, 08:43 PM Well done Andy! :woohoo: I was reading in the other thread about this match that if Berdych was on form he would win but if he wasn't Andy could win and how it was all about how Berdych would play but he is now 29-29 for the year. Surely those 29 losses can't all be put down to Berdych not "being on his game" and that he would have won otherwise. Other players are simply better than him on the day. Like Andy today. Sjengster 10-27-2005, 08:44 PM Pretty awful match from both players, but Murray was smart enough to put balls back in play at 3-3 in the first and third sets and let Berdych self-destruct. In tandem the two of them gave the worst combined display of body language I've ever seen on a tennis court, but at times you would probably have thought Berdych was the younger man judging by the extent to which he blamed the court, the linesmen, the umpire, his racquet... he simply has a high-risk game that means his level of play fluctuates wildly from point to point. Murray will actually be facing a lot more consistency from Gonzalez tomorrow, which sounds like an odd thing to say but the latter does hit with considerable spin and therefore a bit more margin for error. It'll be an interesting tactical contrast, they really would have needed body armour for the line judges if it had been Berdych v Gonzalez. ClaycourtaZzZz. 10-27-2005, 08:46 PM This is the excuse for all the "haters", Berdych or an other opponent Andy beat, was just not in form today:rolls: I really find it funny:p ClaycourtaZzZz. 10-27-2005, 08:47 PM Andy got mad sometimes, he smashed his racket just once:p Berdych behaved like a 5 yrs old kid:rolls: Sjengster 10-27-2005, 08:51 PM This is the excuse for all the "haters", Berdych or an other opponent Andy beat, was just not in form today:rolls: I really find it funny:p If that was directed at me, a) I'm not a "hater" and b) Berdych is such an aggressive player that he inevitably dictates most of the play, win or lose. Those two games where he was broken were absolute shockers, and I don't have to be his no. 1 fan to notice and appreciate that. Duncan 10-27-2005, 08:52 PM i only caught the last 3 games of the match as i was at badminton training but in those 3 games berdych acted like a spoilt brat... the very spoilt brat that Andy has been accused of this year! i think its just a thing in all young players and they will all grow out of it SwissMister1 10-27-2005, 08:54 PM Murray will actually be facing a lot more consistency from Gonzalez tomorrow. Never thought I would read those words, but yeah at this point you are right. ClaycourtaZzZz. 10-27-2005, 08:54 PM If that was directed at me, a) I'm not a "hater" and b) Berdych is such an aggressive player that he inevitably dictates most of the play, win or lose. Those two games where he was broken were absolute shockers, and I don't have to be his no. 1 fan to notice and appreciate that. Nooo.... Yes, but you have to take tha chances;) And Andy just kept the ball in play and Berdych made the faults:shrug: But he won and it's over. Sjengster 10-27-2005, 08:57 PM Well hey, you have to keep the ball in play in the first place to let your opponent beat himself - in that sense, I suppose you are dictating the match on your terms. That's what some people never appreciated a couple of years ago when they said Nalbandian only beat Federer "because of Roger's errors", when the former extracted those unforced errors with his consistency. User id 7816 10-27-2005, 09:06 PM overall to me Murray looked the more mature player in this match and its just weird how Berdych selfdestructs on some important points. whats with Andy's love for dropshots, certainly he has skill for these kinda shots though in the beginning they were a bit :retard: lets see how he will do against Gonzalez who'll be hitting equally hard but has much more experience so yeah it wud be tougher.....but I have to admit it, there's somethin about Murray that I reeeally like :o   Sjengster 10-27-2005, 09:09 PM Embrace the haggis, Alma. He's gonna win Wimbledon one day!!!!!! you hear that, Tim? ;) ClaycourtaZzZz. 10-27-2005, 09:27 PM  Or he hates Berdych, no handshake at the end:shrug: Mrs. B 10-27-2005, 09:29 PM they did but a bit dry. ;) and tell him not to use the F word. people can read his lips! ClaycourtaZzZz. 10-27-2005, 09:35 PM He just said Fuuu, then he put one hand on his mouth:p I mean Berdych didn't give Cryst the normal handshake, he just went away, acting like a real loser, he should have accepted that he lost... shotgun 10-27-2005, 09:38 PM What's up with Berdych?? He is quite a conservative player, so I can see how that wouldn't appeal to many. Chloe le Bopper 10-27-2005, 09:51 PM Well, it was rather boring tonight, a couple of remarkable passing shots excepted. He is quite a conservative player, so I can see how that wouldn't appeal to many. But that might explain why his game would appeal to me. Sjengster 10-27-2005, 09:52 PM I wouldn't compare watching a Murray's match to fucking at all. ;) I would actually; judging by the amount of calls Murray protests in his matches, the one similarity seems to be that the main protagonist finds himself getting screwed. shotgun 10-27-2005, 09:53 PM How exactly can Gonzo be considered his first big test, when his first two matches went to three sets with the first match ending in a third set tb? Indeed. ;) Hey, if you can enjoy 34 consecutive wins for Nadal on clay (not that you saw 'em all, of course), Murray must be positively reckless in comparison. revolution 10-27-2005, 09:59 PM I can't believe it! What a match that was! Not the most beautiful but Andy showed his maturity and he had a cooler head than Berdych, which resulted in him winning, whilst Berdych just lost his cool. Great match, keep it up Andy! He could win tomorrow depending on whether Fernando is consistent or not!  Beaming smile on my face! :) Raquel 10-27-2005, 10:18 PM Regarding Andy "haters", I think after Wimbledon there was a lot of hype without much results to back it up and it didn't go down too well with a lot of people who felt he didn't deserve it. However since he has won a couple of Challengers, qualified for the US Open and got to the Thailand final the people complaining he was all hype and no substance have less to argue with and therefore there is not as much people making negative comments about him. There will always be people who don't like his attitude or game etc. but the people complaining about the over the top hype can't say that any more (or as much as they did) after his recent results. There definitely used to be a lot more bad things said about him before Thailand than now and Andy's fans would defend the - often unmerited - criticism, so his fans can still just a bit defensive in his threads, can't we Murraymount ;) User id 7816 10-27-2005, 10:24 PM Embrace the haggis, Alma. I shall leave the culinary argument between you and your croat friend ;) as for Andy's game, its kind of unpredictable... I mean I get the feeling well atleast from this match that he's experimenting a lot, and even when it goes totally wrong its amusing...he aint the boring get the ball back in play but sort of looks to work out his own often crazy ways....atleast i have this strange impression but what do i know. vincayou 10-27-2005, 10:35 PM How exactly can Gonzo be considered his first big test, when his first two matches went to three sets with the first match ending in a third set tb? :worship: Sjengster 10-27-2005, 10:40 PM I shall leave the culinary argument between you and your croat friend ;) If Andy's a true Scotsman, it's safe to say that any winning steak he establishes will be fattening indeed. Deivid23 10-27-2005, 10:42 PM Tomas is new Santa Claus :o Sjengster 10-27-2005, 10:44 PM I would agree Deivid, but Berdych's spirit of philanthropy is such that he tends to hand out gifts all year round, not just at Christmas. shotgun 10-27-2005, 10:44 PM What I meant was that I wasn't surprised when Murray beat Henman, and I'm not surprised by Murray beating Berdych. But if he beats Gonzalez tomorrow, then it would be a surprise for me, because Gonzalez is in good form and is one of the favourites left. I think Murray fans are the most defensive ones. Like over-protecting moms. Avid Merrion 10-27-2005, 10:47 PM a bit late, but congrats Andy! good luck in the next round :) Deivid23 10-27-2005, 10:51 PM I would agree Deivid, but Berdych's spirit of philanthropy is such that he tends to hand out gifts all year round, not just at Christmas. I saw how he self-destructed on court last week in Madrid, when he was absolutely blowing off court Rochus till his lights went off and it´s quite frustrating. But I still have the feeling some day he will be a mountain too high to climb for almost everyone. Go Berdych vincayou 10-27-2005, 10:55 PM Regarding Andy "haters", I think after Wimbledon there was a lot of hype without much results to back it up and it didn't go down too well with a lot of people who felt he didn't deserve it. There definitely used to be a lot more bad things said about him before Thailand than now and Andy's fans would defend the - often unmerited - criticism, so his fans can still just a bit defensive in his threads, can't we Murraymount ;) That sums up well the situation about him. At first, I thought he was really overhyped when I heard about his first results on clay in challengers (which is supposed to be his best surface - what I don't think now). At Queens, he put some good results but even then not enough to back the hype and hype was already gathering pace. At Wimbledon, I understood he was really special when he beats Stepanek. I saw it, and I liked what I saw. Since then he has put very good results but IMO, there is nothing so far which would make me think that he will be bigger than Djokovic, Monfils or Berdych. All of them will be big and top 10 at some point IMO (but none of them will be as good as Gasquet or Nadal IMO again). kundalini 10-27-2005, 11:00 PM What I meant was that I wasn't surprised when Murray beat Henman, and I'm not surprised by Murray beating Berdych. But if he beats Gonzalez tomorrow, then it would be a surprise for me, because Gonzalez is in good form and is one of the favourites left. I think Murray fans are the most defensive ones. Like over-protecting moms. I can see your point. Henman's recent form has been horrible and Berdych hasn't done much since the US Open. In that respect Gonzalez is a different test for Andy. A player in decent form unlike his previous two opponents. Though Gonzalez's hit or miss style is not that dissimilar to Berdych's. And Murray's style of play may limit Fernando's freedom to hit his customary number of winners. Chris Seahorse 10-27-2005, 11:07 PM What I meant was that I wasn't surprised when Murray beat Henman, and I'm not surprised by Murray beating Berdych. But if he beats Gonzalez tomorrow, then it would be a surprise for me, because Gonzalez is in good form and is one of the favourites left. I think Murray fans are the most defensive ones. Like over-protecting moms. Yup. I agree with this. I expected Murray to beat Henman and considered Murray the favorite against Berdych but I don't see Murray getting past Gonzalez tomorrow. Gonzo is playing awfully well right now. Also if Murray wins he will not be able to take up his place in the Paris qualifying. So Murray will know he has a substantial consulation prize should he lose. Murray fans are very defensive but they have reason to be. Alot of people have not warmed to him partly because of his getting so much attention so early but I think also his personality hasn't endured him to quite a few people. I certainly think right now one can say for the most part he is deserving of a large chunk of the attention he is getting but his Hewitt-like personality still annoys me alot.
