dropped by Lausanne today and saw the guys in practice, but there was no sign of Federer! :(

Kratochvil played against Ivo Heuberger, then Rosset played against Wawrinka. Glad to see Krati playing better than Ivo. Stani wasn't bad, but you can tell that Rosset was more experienced, altho when he hit a bad shot, he'd hit a ball high up into the ceiling. But he's very popular there, they kids were yelling out his name.

There were so many juniors today as the had invitations to watch the players practice. I'm glad they let me in. ;)

i was also waiting that they'd feature Roger on last Sunday's sports program, but nada. He's keeping a low profile it seems, and prolly won't be fair to his teammates to be on the limelight all the time.

still, there was this 6 yr. old kid yesterday on the stands who kept asking in French, "where's Federer?". it seems only Rosset is known by his first name in these parts of CH.

on April Fools they wrote that Roger broke his rib while jetskiing in Miami. that would have been a total fiasco!
-----------------

here's a better report on Lausanne from yesterday...posted this on another board. ;)

The venue, Patinoire de Malley, is small, with 6870 seats, so even if you bought the cheapest tickets you could see what's going on the court pretty well. (they've added VIP seats on the side of the rink) It's not in Lausanne itself. Driving from Bern you take the exit to Blecherette, then take Prilly, and follow the Malley signs on the boards. Prilly is a small town and getting to the ice stadium will be an ordeal. I have to tell hubby to drive there earlier on Friday, also cuz the parking will be a total nightmare.

Anyway, i was afraid they wouldn't let me in cuz there were all these kids with their moms, and teenagers, carrying these pieces of papers with them. Turned out to be invitations for the different clubs in the area for their junior players to come and watch the practice today. I told this woman that i drove all the way from Bern and she told me to wait, in the end i could go in. About 400 people were there to watch the practice. Half of them were children.

Federer was not around, i caught Ivo Heuberger playing against Kratochvil, (he wore those new blue Nike shoes with his red shirt, ugh!) then Rosset played against Wawrinka. Yves Allegro was sitting around with the other guys from the Swiss team, Pierre Paganini was there, Messerer, the "Bespanner", Thierry Markante, physiotherapist, and Caius Schmid, another physiotherapist, who from the other side of the court, looked like Papa Kratochvil. George Deniau (coach) and Severin Luthi (asst. coach) were standing either by the net or behind the baselines. They were mostly picking up the balls or giving them to the players. Micha was playing much better than Ivo, so let's wait and see. Stani has a lot of potential, good first serve, and lovely one handed bh, but i find his movements a bit stiff; are my eyes deceiving me or does his serve remind me a bit of Schalken? You could tell Marc was the more experienced player, and the kids love him there, they kept yelling his name. When he made errors, he'd hit a ball right up to the ceiling! But i caught him bending on all fours trying to retrieve a ball that went into one of those spaces on the side of the court that wasn't covered yet.

A lot of those kids who were there were disappointed that Roger was not around. A six yr. old who was standing close to me kept asking in French, "where's Federer?" A French tv crew was there and 2 photographers, one from Keystone cuz i saw the name wrapped around his huge lens. There was also this guy who was documenting the Swiss team.

At 4 pm, it was the French team's turn to practice and i saw Clement, and the Swiss boys were friendly with him. Guillermo Raoux was also there. I had to leave for the town of Lavigny, near Morges, to meet someone so i couldn't stay longer but i caught the Frenchies warming up by playing football! Guy Forget & Llodra on one side, and Clement & Benneteau on the other side. I didn't see Grosjean nor Escudé.

On my way back to the car i tried to have a peek at the players' entrance but didn't see anyone, i did see one of the girls from my club who was there with her mom and gf cuz she was a Fed fan too. Her mom kept saying that it wasn't fair that Roger didn't join the practice just because he's no. 1. They will also be there on Friday.

The view of the Lake of Geneva was quite nice today. It was clear and you could see Montreux and the other towns across the water and the snow-capped mountains behind.

Aww... poor SUI lost the dbles today in 4 sets -- Rogi lost serve at least twice... hope he's OK... tough loss...

so FRA - SUI 2-1

it was crucial to win today... so now it's up to ROGI to beat Clement and someone... maybe Micha to beat Escude and be the unlikely hero and win this for SUI...

Rogi must be disappointed... losing at home...

but it's not over til it's over... HOPP!!!

he just CANT lose. when he wins he's happy, when he loses he's angry, disappointed, nobody can talk to him. i think agassi makes it great, he's acting the same, when he loses or when he wins. of course you can be disappointed after losing, but you dont have to go hiding and crying just because you lost!

the fact that you bring up Agassi as a gracious loser is astonishing. Yes he has improved since his younger days when he was a outright sore loser but even a few months ago he did not react all to well when beaten by Mardy Fish

If to any extent what you said is what you witnessed, I'm glad he actually just go hide and cry by his own instead of behaving like a jerk to his opponents or take it out on the ball kids, linesman, umpires etc. On the other hand, I had seen pictures of Rogi in this DC matches, I must say I didn't even see him being so pumped up when winning his 2nd slam in AO. So I won't be surprise if he's extremely disappointed with himself for losing that double. You're almost right, he and his partner JUST CAN'T LOSE that double match.

WyverN is right too, you probably didn't watch Agassi match vs Fish lately.

I was at Lausanne during these 3 days and after the loss in the double Roger really was disappointed because he suddenly left the court without giving any interview after the match - Yves Allegro had to answer the questions...

.. i think because they played at home they really wanted to show their best tennis and win this double - but unfortunately the luck wasn't on the swiss side at the important points... :( it wasn't meant to be...

In an interview in a swiss newspaper he said that he was really disappointed because he couldn't play as amazing as he wanted to!! He did mistakes at the important points and that hurts...

His reaction shows that the DC is very important to him and that he's always trying to do his best - otherwise he wouldn't react like that..

If it's really in Geneva - maybe we should all stay in a hostel then couse driving to Geneva everyday is not really what I'm looking for!!

me neither - so we have to look for one as soon as we know that it will be there for sure - because if they will sell nearly 15000 tickets then much people will be around then...
that would be great for the atmosphere :woohoo:

I still got the plan to save money and go to switzerland in september (and seems my mum is supporting me to go, so if I won't have enough money I might be able to borrow a bit of money from my parents) :)

Yep it is claycourt

Stevens Point

Yep it is claycourt
Clay!? Hmmm, I think it is a difficult but good decision. Clay isn't Roger's best surface, but he is still the king of tennis, and I feel Stan does great on clay as he showed in Rome and French Open. Looking at British team, I think Rusedski (British No.1 in Henmanless team) doesn't have a good record on clay... and the rest of the team, I don't know....

The question is wether Roger and co get used to clay again in the middle of hard court and indoor season...

Nathy

Yeah I think so too. Anyway I still think it is the best choice they made, regarding the opponent... We'll see but I have faith :)

I just posted an article in the Deutsch thread in Roger forum about Severin Lüthi for the new Swiss Davis Cup captain.

Is it official that he is the successor of Marc Rosset? I don't know about him very much, but could anyone explain who he is?

Yes, I submitted for the tickets in the site!! But, if I win them, I don't know if I will be going because I have a concert on Thrusday night and I have to be in Zurich on Monday morning. That's too tight when I spend my time in Geneva for 3 days inbetween. If I win the tickets, I think about it again, though, because I want to be there as well.... :), if I decide not to go, I will give them to my SH's brother who loves tennis!

Okay, I did already post the report in my blog, but I'll post it here as well:

|| Day 1 || 23-09-2005 || Not a bad day, quite cute… ||

After a really short night, I nervously woke up at 4 am, ready for the big weekend, the countdown was over. But till I would meet ste irl would still take quite some hours. The drive to schiphol, and the flight to Geneva did luckily go quick, and before I knew Ste was standing in front of me. The first minutes were a bit strange, but that was soon over and did we talk a lot. So we did leave our stuff in the hotel and did hurry to the tennis… yes we did hurry, we arrived kinda late. Coz of that I did miss Nathy and ran right away to my seat. And quickly after that the players entered the court, all, but of course I was just looking at the one and only… Marco
We watched the first match, Roger was quick, not just coz he did play wonderful, but more coz the British did suck. I really had fun during this match, joking a bit, shouting, looking at Marco and it was over before I noticed.
We did take a break between the 2nd match and missed the first games of Stan’s match. This match was a lot closer and I have to admit, I don’t remember a lot of it :o, coz of all what happened after that. But most important is, Switzerland is leading 2-0! :bounce:
But as you read above, this was not yet all. The matches were over and we (ste and I) were just walking around, doing nothing, when we saw in distance some people standing, a Swiss and English guy walking around so we did go in that direction, wondering if some players might come. And a player did come, not too long later I enthusiastically said to Ste that Marco was coming, and soon Ste saw him as well. To make it better he came to us right away, seemed he really recognized us, he gave us a hand and nicely informed if I had a nice trip and if I was fine. We talked for a few minutes when he sadly had to leave. We did not really have te chance to take a pic with him, but “gosh” what was he looking good! :hearts: This already totally made my dad, but reading that you can guess it did even get better!
After the meeting with Marco we did go back to the others, who were talking with two guys from TCOB (for those who don’t know: the tennisclub from Marco and Roger). They were kinda surprised to have a Dutch Swiss fan around and were joking with that all the time, and organised another meeting with our Marco. But we were waiting and waiting, while he would come in five minutes and there were feeding me kinda drunk. And after a while they recommended this were clearly “Chiudinelli fünf minuten” I really couldn’t stop laughing anymore. But finally he arrived there, surprisingly, joined by Michael Lammer (wow he is kinda cute as well!). They came to sit next to me, wow so strange that I did sit on the same table with two such cute guys! And when I asked Steffi to take a pic to prove this (coz otherwise nobody would believe me I think :p) one of the tcob-guys told us to stand next to them, so we moved, but then they told us we had to sit between them :bolt: So were looking a bit strange, not knowing what to do, Michael did get an extra seat for Steffi, and Marco just moved a bit so I could sit on the same chair :hearts: first I looked a bit strange Do I really have to sit there?! but I couldn’t say I didn’t want to, so I did sit down. And to make it “worse” Marco did put his arm around me of course I accidentally forgot to put the flashlight on the camera, so we had to take another pic . That was really a great moment, still start drooling when I think of it  :p. Not too long after that we had to leave the stadium, because it was closed already  We said goodbye to Marco, Michael and the TCOB-guys, they said “maybe see you tomorrow” and he (Marco) promised us that he would try everything to make me visit the apero (the others had tickets, but I didn’t) on Sunday. Well this is about it for today, wondering if the next days can be better… :p

|| Day 2 || 24 – 09 – 2005 || Swiss power ||

Surprisingly I woke up quite early, while we did go to sleep after midnight. And Ste and I had a “full with jokes conversation” right away. And laughed a lot already before getting ready for breakfast. Around 11 did we leave to the stadium and I wanted to go to center court directly, but Ste was in doubt if that would be a good idea. (I still don’t understand why  “why Ste?! :p) But I did do what I wanted, and I am sure that was a good idea. George and Michael were having a practice, and more important, Marco was watching. So I took some pics of all of them, wow Michael is hotter than I thought, he is my 3rd fave Swiss now. Esp. when he’s drinking he is soooo hot  see the photobucket link I’ll post later :p
Marco was chatting with someone of the team and did bow down all the time, and we got to see a part of the skin of his back all the time. Ste and I had to same thought, and really would love to ‘punch’ him there  After a while this man he talked to pointed at us that Marco should look at us for a picture. And when Marco turned around his smile grow bigger, because he recognized us. The picture did get so… :inlove:  :hearts:
Not too much later the double match started and it really was a lot different than the single matches, because it was a really close match. But getting closer to the end, Yves only got to play better, so Switzerland did win in 4 sets! :woohoo: Switzerland did win the whole tie! After the match we stayed quite a while singing and making noise. So far this weekend was just perfect!
With quite some fans we waited for the swiss players to get out of the “non fans area” but, while we were standing there, they left on the side far away from us. Just waving at us. But I did not really mind, coz I already had what I wanted. I am wondering what tomorrow will bring…

|| Day 3 || 25 – 09 –2005 || Maybe Friday could be better… ||

After another short night (Steffi and I couldn’t stop talking till 2.15 am :o) we arrived way too early at the stadium. Actually we were the first fans and we couldn’t even enter. And once we finally could go in, we were not allowed to go to center court till an hour later. But then we were the first ones to arrive there and could stand in the first line to take some good pictures of Stan and George, who were practicing. Ste and I stayed in the first line to take some pics of Chiudi when he entered the stadium with the other players, before we did go back to our seat.
The first match was really nice, George played really good. And it was an easy match. I really had fun during this match following the Swiss players box, where they were laughing a lot. And I just loved the text on the big screen ”Com’ on Georgi boy” It was a really nice match to follow, a lot better than the 2nd match, of Stan. But that was prolly coz the atmosphere was a bit gone, and coz I had my eye on Marco all the time, really, seemed he was hardly following the tennis and talking all the time. And it was so cute when Roger did put his hand on Marco’s head/neck :hearts:
After the match I became a bit unsure, all could enter the apero. But I had to wait outside. And it would be like impossible to contact Marco now. So I did “put on” my best face and asked if I could enter, coz Marco was going to try to get me in and I didn’t want to wait for him. And I dunno what it was, but they did lemme enter. And I am so happy they did, coz it was lovely. even while I didn’t understand any word of what they said. All the players were happy, smiling and singing. And even while I tried to get a picture of Roger all the time, it was Marco my camera could find. Seems it knows who I am “loving” so much :p
The players did leave again without signing or “giving” photos. And it seemed most fans were a bit disappointed of that. And they were standing behind the door for a while to see if they could go outside to the players, but were not allowed. But the door was a bit open and the others saw Marco was still standing there and they made me move closer so I could see him, and then they opened the door to let someone inside and Marco did see me. And he smiled, when I waved at him. With his eyes he said “please come outside” so I did go through the door. But the security stopped me, even while I said “Marco is asking me to come”. Luckily Marco helped and said I was allowed to come outside. That felt really special, me, lil Yvo from Holland, was the only one allowed to go outside to talk to Marco. He gave me a hand again and we talked for about five minutes about several things. But sadly Michael asked marco if he would come, and Marco said “sorry” that he had to leave. I asked him if I could take one last picture of him, and he asked me if I didn’t want to be on it as well, so of course I couldn’t say no to that. But I was so stupid!!! I thought I was standing on his right side and moved to the other side coz I didn’t want to be near his injured shoulder, but of course, as you can guess now, this other side was his right one
But he didn’t mind and put his arm around me again. Wow he really is too good to be true. So we said goodbye and he said ‘see you again’. I could only reply with “hopefully”, but he seemed to be sure that we would meet again :)
When I came back inside they all said that Chiudi really is nice to me, and yes he really is. I am only becoming a bigger and bigger fan :toothy:

So I would say that in general, this trip was even better than I could have dreamed off. Before the weekend I was already happy if I could see Marco or Roger from distance. But really, never expected that I would have the chance to talk to him more than once. After such weekend I got the feeling that I must’ve been the luckiest girl in the crowd. It was great to be there, to meet so many Roger-fans from rf.com/mtf. I would love to go back to Switzerland soon, esp. for Swiss tennis, so I better start saving my money!

Thank u for the pix. Stan seems preoccupied with something... just hope it's not his shoulder cos last week he withdrew from the double QF in Delray-Beach...

(2)Jaroslav Levinsky/Michal Mertinak (CZE/SVK) d. Yves Allegro/Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI) w/o shoulder.

Allez Stan! fingers crossed!

Vive La Suisse! :yippee:

I don't know what to say at the moment,,,

George had almost no answer to that powerful serves....

So, are we again in the playoff in September??

bokehlicious

Yes, unfortunately Peter's serve was too much on fire today, George didn't play badly but Guccione was simply unbreakable...

I think I can travel to Bern/Basel/St.Gallen/Luzern on Friday, I just have to come back to Zurich on the same day though, as I have things to do on Saturday morning in Zurich.. (but I wish it is held in Zurich... :tape: )

I love the new Davis cup jackets that the players are wearing. From what I heard, Ivo Heuberger's company, Hi-Pro are the ones that produced the uniform.
You can order the jackets on the website with www.hi-pro.ch
You can order your favorite player's name for the back of the jacket.
Allez Suisse!!!

When I was at the USo, the fisrt day I saw Roger he was with Severin Luthi.
Then I saw him around almost every day of the first week, and had practise sessions with Stan and marcos. So I think they are working since 3 weeks ago, or more cos I saw them the first time on 22 of August.
I hope the swiss team win! They are nice people and I like them.Sorry for Djokovich... a sweetheart,I talked to him a bit and saw some practise session, too.So nice and girls, he has such a dreamy eyes.
