Both Ferrer and Puerto played well; however, Ferrer was better today. Fantastic job Ferrer and congrats :)

Really good match from Ferrer and the home crowd really inspired him.

Puerta, I dunno, come the start of the third set his energy had just.. ran out, and Ferrer outlasted him. He also produced a lot less errors.

Who can actually afford to watch TV in the middle of the day on a Thursday?

I taped the match so have yet to see this greatness from David, but the stats tell me all I need to know: he's in form. :woohoo:

It's a shame Rafa is taking all the attention but it's about time you get a bit of it as well ;)

Very well played from Ferrer, and very nice to see that the Madrid audience was treating Puerta very nicely.

Who can actually afford to watch TV in the middle of the day on a Thursday?

I was had to stay home from work yesterday to be with our pooch after knee surgery (she tore her doggy ACL!). She was essentially sleeping all day so I was able to watch tennis the whole time- and without my husband getting annoyed for hogging the tv. Very nice! ;)

Good job to Ferrer- sounds like it was a high quality match. Did DR make those "hut hut" little noises when he was running to get to a shot? They always amuse me. :D

and very nice to see that the Madrid audience was treating Puerta very nicely.

From the matches I have seen- the audience in Madrid has been really good about respecting a player and applauding good shots, etc. even if they are rooting for his opponent. Good to hear that the audience was good today for a player who is going through a very rough time.

It was a great match - I wanted Mariano to win - but congrats to David - his energy and fighting spirit really are amazing, and good luck to him for the rest of the tournament. Mariano was a little tired at the end - but he didn't give up either - and - yes - the Madrid crowd have been very fair to him throughout. When I was at some of his practice sessions over the weekend so many people were coming up to him just to shake his hand and wish him luck - and it was great to see.

Who's Puerto :p ?
Mariano's chances for Shangai are almost over. He has to win Paris and reach the finals or more next week. Anyway, amazing year ... and let's wait for the dopping story to be solved quickly

Me too I wante Mariano to win,and he played very well in the first set, but all credit to Ferrer he played exceptionally well. However, he was serving very well throughout the match, but he seemed to have no answers to counter Ferrer's counter punching and court coverage. All credit to the Madrid crowd for concentrating on the tennis and not all the ugly rumours. I was touched by the applause Mariano was given at the end of the match.
Good try Mariano, better luck next tournament. I still think he can make it to Shanghai.

I haven't watched the tape yet, but according to the SB stats, Ferrer was playing well the entire match. Puerta would have dismissed in straights if David had managed to convert any 1 of the 5 break points he had in the 1st set. The most amazing feat is most of the match Ferrer was out-acing him (for David a 120 mph serve is huge :o ) and ended up 11 to Mariano's 10. I think a more fair analysis of the match is Mariano did not play as well as David did. :p

May I also add Ferrer beat Puerta on dirt during the Latin America swing earlier this year...

Good to see Ferrer put together back to back wins. Let's see what he does against Ginepri.

Well done David :bigclap:. I was rooting for him.

So sorry for Mariano though. I hope he will do better in Paris and still make it to Shaghai.

:yeah: to the Madrid crowd.
