Coria vs. González: interesting match

Guillermo Coria will face Fernando González in the 3rd Round of the Madrid AMS. Interesting match! Both are latin clay-courters who have recently improved a lot their game in other surfaces. It will be also the first time they face each other since that match in Rome when Coria got irritated with Feña's on-court behaviour (excessive cheering after points). In the end, after they shook hands, Coria just looked down, smiled and shaked his head disapprovingly.

If Coria played like today, Gonzalez will defeat him easily. Coria won a match without playing well. Coria will have to play better if he wants to defeat Fernando who played solid last week in Vienna (he only lost to the winner of the tournament), and yesterday, he also played good. So, Gonzalez will win, I hope in straights sets. Vamos Gonzalez, you are the best :bounce: :bounce:

Who will win in this typical Latin American battle of clay-court grinders? It will be exciting for sure.

If Gonzalez wins this, big things can happen to him in 2006. This is a test. He has choked insanely against Coria in the past

i agree that if coria wants to win he has to increase his game alot, gonzo is playing well, and he wants to break his jinx against coria.

On fast courts, Gonzalez will win, that's sure. I hope I won't bring him bad luck. I'm confident !!

Gonzalez is shooting too wild. Coria just need putting ball into court and wait for error of Gonzalez to overpower. Gonzalez needs a consistent good match, else he not win, I predict.

I think Gonzalez will win in 2.... Although I don't like him too much, I think Gonzalez, as a player, is underrated.

Sorry Willie, I'm not objective, I don't like Coria, he he !!

I don't know what was the shape of Coria in Miami, but if you watched Coria today, sincerely, he played bad and won't go too far this week. I just hope that Fernando won't have up and downs. But, Fernando will be very motivated to have his first victory on Coria !!

Everybody knows that Coria played like crap today, he said himself that Gonzalez will be the favorite tomorrow, the way he was playing.

I saw a bit of thie Coria-C Rochus match on TV this morning, Guille looked a bit shaky. If Gonzo serves well and slaps FH winners accurately, I'd say he's got a good shot of advancing to the QFs.

I hope Fernando can do it - he's been playing so strongly this year.

Guille has seemed shaky the last couple times I've watched him, but he's always a tough opponent. Even when playing badly, most time he can still figure out how to win.

Fernando has to be mentally tough the entire match - and no letdowns like yesterday after Verdasco in the 2nd.

VAMOS FERNANDO!

Coria always beats other S Americans and tomorrow will be no different... he knows he can beat and has beaten Fena... no problema para el de Venado Tuerto. What he said in the press is just for show... players do that sort of thing.

Having said that, I shall cheer for Fena to turn around his miserable hth w Guille and win for a change! ;)

Coria always beats other S Americans and tomorrow will be no different...Not anymore. He still has very good h2h against most of them because he used to beat them everytime, but this year, he lost to Nalbandian, Calleri, Horna, last year to Gaudio... I think it's pretty even now.

Anyway, never mind the Coria-González H2H, I think Gonzo will win this time. First, because he's a better hard-court player than Coria is IMO, and second, because this Guillermo is not the same Guillermo from 2003 or 2004, and Gonzalez on the other hand is now reaching the peak of his career.

I believe Gonzalez has been on a role these past days, I really think he has a chance in beating Coria aswell.

This will be the fastest surface they have played on that's for sure but Coria has beaten him on hard courts before. When you are down 5-0 in head-to-heads, the other player is in your head before you even hit the first ball and that's true even if you are playing on a surface that should favor your big power game.

While you are probably right and you always seem to know what you are talking about...I am going to choose to ignore it...lol! ;)

I really really really want Fernando to win tomorrow. :p

I hope so, if Feña doesn't choke against Coria again (like Miami '04 and Rome '05 :o )
