Who will win: Gonzo or Verdasco in the battle of the Missile Forehands?

This match, well fortunately they don't have let cord judges for this one, as the potential for pain in this match of huge forehands is higher than average.

They are 1-1 in H2H and have played this year.

2005 New Haven, Hard, R16 Verdasco 6-7 7-5 7-6
2005 Monte Carlo, Clay, R64 Gonzalez 6-4 7-5

I wonder what sort of match it will be, but I do hope there are a lot of winners and enjoyable tennis, though Verdasco and Gonzo on bad days couldn't hit an elephant's arse with banjos from less than 10cm away.

Verdasco because he's sexier.

Actually I think that he really will win... the home crowd will lift him. Gonzo is the only person that can be more erratic than Nando. :p

Hm, I don't know but I will be looking forward to getting home in time to see this on tv. I hope N&o can pull it off :)

I don't care either way who wins, as long as it's a good match, and they win their next round after that. Their 2 matches have been close and I don't see why this one will be any different.

It will be interesting if Nando will try and hit more forehands up the line than usual against Gonzo?

If Verdasco serves the way he did in the first and third sets of his 1st round match, he has a great shot.

Both have underrated serves, the fact the unpredictiability factor makes this match more interesting than some.

You think they have underrated serves, GWH? I always thought of them both as being among the better servers on tour, especially N&o b/c of the lefty factor :yeah:

Fena in 3!!! It will be a tough match but Fena will perservere. (And I am envious of anyone who has TTC.)

Well LaLo's serve seems to rated at a higher level than Verdasco's, though while LaLo does have a good one, Verdasco when on song is at a higher level.
Gonzalez is just known as a forehand, not that I think this is true, but that's the perception.

I still think Verdasco has the edge though, with his lefty spin. PHM was having lots of trouble with that.

 That's a musically provocative image, and it may be time to write a piece on that theme. :singer:

Verdasco has the best serve in Spain and for those who laugh at this comment just had to see LaLoīs one and Verdascoīs one in the same court yesterday (though he was a bit stubborn hitting it mostly up/down the T). He has a great variety and can serve above 200 km/h for the whole match.

About the match itself, I donīt have a clue about who will win, letīs hope Verdasco can pull it through

The crowd should get very loud for this match and give it some atmosphere and I just want to see some good tennis and Verdasco could get some great work on his serve on the ad court to Gonzo's backhand.

I hope Nando is ready to work and run tomorrow, if he comes out firing he should win but if he is having a lazy day then Gonzo will win :( Not that I mind but I would rather Nando win it.

Should be an entertaining match. Won't predict the outcome though as with these guys you never know if the missile's on target or not.

No confidence in guessing this match, just a guess that Verdasco will win in 3 sets.

Verdasco has a better backhand , serve and return than Gonzalez , but tennis aren't maths and a match isn't won because of the potential talent, a match is won by the player who takes the correct decisions through the match ,and in this case, in this match of brainless players i think Gonzo is mentally more stable , has more experience and besides it seems Verdasco hasn't his mind very focused on tennis in the last weeks.

It's true that Verdasco is playing in front of his crowd but i think the fave is Gonzo . And let's see if one day Verdasco gets to turn all his talent into results :o , because talent without results is :silly:

These two guys with Madrid's altitude make an explosive combination ;)

PS: I think ballkids and linesmen should be a bit worried about their physical integrity :tape:

I like them both, but hope Gonzalez wins.

I watched the Verdasco match yesterday - he started off great, but really let up in the 2nd.

Verdasco has the edge on better groundstrokes...but Fernando has more power.

I guess it will depend on who's mentally tougher today.

Gonzalez in 3 sets !! Vamos !!! Gonzo seems to be in a good shape and really motivated to win a couple of points to qualify for the Masters Cup. He'll do it !!

Sp true, but I'd take Gonzo's misfiring missiles any time over Nando's. I hope he's the one to come out victorious. However, I wish the best of luck to both.

Verdasco's serve decided the match.

His 2nd second serve that is.

Plenty of variety too. Sometimes it missed by a good 6ft and other times it almost bounced before reaching the net. I'm sure there was one serve that never even bounced before it went passed the baseline.

Some amazing shots in the match. Verdasco's forehand is awesome.

wow Nando's serve sure rocked in this match. he seems uncomfortable to see someone blasting the ball 5 times harder than him
