It's the truth, Loserbitch was not impressive at all today, but JCF was just a lot less impressive.

back to back titles is great but means nothing if he doesn't perform in the upcoming masters tournaments

Well, if I could choose between Vienna and Madrid I would definately choose Madrid but I don't think it works that way.

I think he has the best opportunity to win a masters with Madrid. Only two men really stand in his way, Andy and Nadal. If he continues to play at this level, I think he can take out both. When Ljubicic plays at this level, he is better than Nadal on this surface. And the biggest gift to Ljubicic is Roger isn't playing Madrid. So, I really do hope Ljubicic can run with this and make the most of this opportunity.

OK Jerry, I admit it - Ljubicic now has a steak that could hold its own in the finest culinary establishments in the land. Ferrero's, by contrast, was subjected to a grilling from which it never really recovered.

I wouldn't say JC had no chance. First set maybe, but he had points 5-4 in the second, point to break at 4-4 in the 3rd and the only mini break Ivan got in the tiebreak was JC's double fault, so the second and third sets were very even and came down to 3 or 4 points that Ivan to his credit won. JC did have chances though.

Well done JC :D A great week. Another top 10 win, a top 20 win and back into the top 20 in the rankings again. Good luck in Madrid.

Congrats Ivan.

Well, simply that Ivan is not entirely human considering his amazing efforts this week. Mind you, if Jerry is a relative, then is he also not completely human?

There was certainly some kind of magical forcefield around the Ljubicic serve this week, there were a couple of times yesterday and obviously today in the 36-shot rally when he had been all but broken, only somehow he found a way to keep himself in the point and hold on. No wonder Ferrero dropped his racket to the floor after somehow coming out on the losing end of that point.

that point was so intense, ferrero hit about 5 shots that could have been winners and ivan got them all back

Reminds me a lot of a guy called Pete Sampras.

Amazing ralley. I think the commentator said it was 36 shots, which beats Federer-Hewitt's 34-stroke ralley in Indian Wells. Shame it had to end with a backhand error.

I can see what you're saying, but Sampras would never, ever have had to play points like that to hold onto his serve. That's the weird dichotomy of Ljubicic - huge serve, big groundstrokes and good touch when he gets to the net, but a lot of the time he plays a very patient rallying game with looping strokes and solid defence.

BTW, the Hewitt-Federer rally in IW was 45 shots, and probably a bit more dramatic since the crowd were totally involved by the end, although I think the one today had more variety in it.

I'm not saying Ljubicic has the same game as Sampras but I got the impression that he could have continued serving all day without getting broken. Also Sampras always played the break points very well just like Ivan did today.

45 shots? Wow, I wish I'd seen it.

Good beginning and end to the year for Ivan. I hope he can play well in the upcoming masters events. With Fed and Safin out, I only see a few players who can deal with his power indoors so he should be able to do pick up some more points before the year is done.
