It has been almost 2 years since JC Ferrero won a singles title, can he break the drought tomorrow tomorrow? He will be facing either big serving Ivan "the terrible" Ljubicic, or compatriot Tommy "gun" Robredo.

but i saw jc playing and he seemed to be pretty strong and fast and very focused :) he hardly made any UE

ivan struggled in one game, other than that he was solid. robredo held serve only once in the second without facing a break point. to say that tommy gave up is ridiculous, he hit some insane shots in the second and was really fighting

I just watched the second set today, and Ljubicic had big problems holding his serve. Look for Juan Carlos to be able to take better care of his breakpoints tomorrow!

I had no idea this would be best of 5 sets. Looking ahead, that's really bad news for JC. He needs to do well in Madrid, if he's to qualify for Shanghai, but now he's going to be so tired next week. To make matters worse, I don't think he'll be seeded which means he won't get a bye to the 2nd round.

Best of 3 sets, I'm sure Ljubicic would win. But since it's best of 5, I think it will be 50-50. JC will obviously be the fresher of the two and Ivan looked a bit tired, playing a few lazy shots. The key will be who plays the tie-breakers better, I have no doubts there'll be a few in the final. Ivan will have his big serve to help him but JC will have to work hard for most of his points.

Credit to Ivan, he played a very Sampras-like match. He never looked like conceding his serve and he played all the break points very well. He seemed to raise his game very well for all the important points.

JC made his worst mistakes when it really mattered. He didn't play badly but there was nothing spectacular about his performance like there use to be. Had he put that smash away during that 36-stroke rally, they'd be playing a 4th set now.

The better player won today.

The real question is: how high would he be ranked if he performed just as well at the Slams and Masters as he did at the International Series?

And it's not because he plays badly in 5 set matches - today and all his DC matches prooves it. He seems to have some problem playing in the important tournaments. It's a shame because when you look at his game, he has no weaknesses. Serve, forehand, backhand, volleying and even his movement can be very good when he tries. He should be a top 6 player.

Ljubicic was simply too tough for everybody this week. Ferrero and Robredo all had chances, but Ljubicic didn't give in and played best tennis again whenever it was needed and stepped up his game huge. Impressive week for sure for him.
