It has been almost 2 years since JC Ferrero won a singles title, can he break the drought tomorrow tomorrow? He will be facing either big serving Ivan "the terrible" Ljubicic, or compatriot Tommy "gun" Robredo.

Neely 10-15-2005, 01:59 PM When Ferrero can bring this performance tomorrow again and maybe has saved his best stuff for the final, Ljubicic must really be aware of him; I think we are guaranteed a good and hopefully interesting final. I have seen Ljubicic tired during his match against Robredo and if Tommy had been more intelligent Ljubo was beatable today . The key has been that long game ( 11th ) in the first set when Ivan seemed to be very tired making a lot of u.e with his forehand, and Robredo lacked aggressiveness in those break points . If Robredo had broken Ljubicic in that game i saw Robredo as ther winner of the match . In the second set Robredo lost his concentration in the first game, Ivan broke and the match was almost over . Looking ahead, that's really bad news for JC. He needs to do well in Madrid, if he's to qualify for Shanghai, but now he's going to be so tired next week. To make matters worse, I don't think he'll be seeded which means he won't get a bye to the 2nd round. Best of 3 sets, I'm sure Ljubicic would win. But since it's best of 5, I think it will be 50-50. JC will obviously be the fresher of the two and Ivan looked a bit tired, playing a few lazy shots. The key will be who plays the tie-breakers better, I have no doubts there'll be a few in the final.
