In 2005, Kunitsyn is 16-0 on Russian soil, including straight sets wins this week over Santoro, Rusedski and Pavel. Can anybody stop him?

Last year at the same tourney, following straight sets victories over Beck and Berdych, it took a gallant Dominik Hrbaty (who I believe was top 20 at the time) to stop Igor, 7-6 6-4.

The name is Italian. The city was named after the Italian Communist chief Palmiro Togliatti. Soviets liked to name places after their fellow communists.. The place is most famous by the fact that Russian Lada, Niva and Samara cars were produced there.. kinda a Russian Detroit..

Only certain people apppreciate the Kunitsyn show and now he will go and do nothing again, but it was fun. There was plenty of money to be had for this week on Kunitsyn.

Tipsarevic def. Kunitsyn 6-4 6-2

Worst match I've ever seen Igor K. play, and the fact this is in Russia, he should be embarrassed with himself. With SF points to defend you would think he would show some type of spark. But this has been a horrible season for him so I guess it isn't surprising. Too bad he had to play a motivated Janko instead of other places in the draw he could have gotten wins.

It's time where Kunitsyn peaks.

Interesting thread. His record would probably be even better if you expanded it to the FSU. He's won/come runner up at a few Challengers in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine IIRC.

I was shocked to see this guy is still ranked this high, havn't seen him play all year.
