RECORD for the most 20+ match win streaks in the Open Era: Fed now at 6.

Going through both the ATP and ITF databases, this is what I have come up with. I took quite a while to go through the old guys pre-1977 like Connors, Nastase, Smith, Ashe, Laver, Rosewall, and Newcombe because the ITF database is not searchable for all tour tournies before 1977.

In any case, the usual suspects are there along with quite a few greats who could not manage to accomplish the feat. It takes quite a run to get to at least 20. Many old tournies had 64 player draws so smaller tourny wins could still yield 6 wins. A slam win, a 64 draw tourny win, and a 32 draw tourny win would get you to 18. Then you could get to a QF of the next tourny and get to 20.

There are probably one or two that I have missed so if you do know of someone, please let me know. :)

That's because he's only had a few weeks (Aug 2004, May 2005) in the past 18 months when he's not actually been on one.

Since losing to Guga at last year's RG, these are Federer's streaks:

23 wins in a row before a loss to Hrbaty in Cincy
1-2 record going into the USO
26 wins in a row before a loss to Safin at the AO
25 wins in a row before a loss to Gasquet in MC
11 wins in a row before a loss to Nadal at RG
31 wins in a row and counting

That's a total of 117 wins and 5 losses.

Yes, Vilas won 7 titles in a row during the record of 46 (2 in Davis Cup) consecutive winning matches.

Borg from 1979 to 1980 won 10 titles in a row:

- Tokyo Indoor (30 Oct 79)
- Montreal Challenge Cup (17 Nov 79)
- Milan Masters (26 Nov 79) *
- Frankfurt Invitational (29 Nov 79) *
- Masters (9 Dec 79)
- Boca Raton (8 Feb 80)
- Salisbury (19 Feb 80)
- Nice (24 Mar 80)
- Monte Carlo (31 Mar 80)
- Las Vegas (22 Apr 80)

* Note that these two events have not yet been added to atptennis.com's database, so without them Borg won eight in a row. But I believe they will be added eventually. Notice that Borg has had two events added in recent weeks. Salisbury is one and Montreal Challenge Cup is another.

Borg's winnings streak encompassing these events, two Davis Cup matches and the one following Las Vegas (Nations Cup where he would lose to Vilas in the semi, breaking the streak) is 49.
