When he got broken a second time I had the feeling just from following the score that as a 31-year old he wanted to get some kip, I can't really blame him. Has there been another match in recent years that's finished this late? I know Nalbandian v Coria at this year's AO ended up finishing after 2am due to previous matches overrunning, but I can't imagine many people stayed around for this one as a few did in Australia.

Well done Tim, you're in serious trouble now that you can't even beat Sexy Radek.

Corey Feldman

how do you even describe that match :o

1st set:Won.
2nd set:Choked.
3rd set:Tanked.

But were there any breaks at all in the first two sets? There seemed to me to be a complete service deadlock brought on by two attacking players matched up on an indoor court, and then Henman simply fell away in the final set. Hard to choke when a match is so service-dominated, I'll bet Radek only got one decisive point against serve in the second set TB.

there was a break each, in the 2nd set.

When Henman is in a match situation of 7-6 6-6 , he fucks it up/goes on to lose so many times... or in Grand slam terms 7-6 7-5 6-6 (v canas AO 2004) you just know he's gonna choke as he rarely closing out the match tie break.

he has the killer instinct of a kitten. http://www.1a-gifs.de/gifs/katzen/a-cat15.gif

I believe George coined the phrase Pussycat Tim after the Canas match at the AO.

there's no doubt he's become a wimp now.. when the pressure is on, he folds up like a cheap tent, even on a surface where he was once one of the best.

So he's Kitty Tim, not Tiger Tim :eek:the way he's playing.. shitty kitty Tim is better.

That's an awful match for Henman, even though Radek is a top 20 player and pretty typical of his year so far. Until not long ago players like Stepanek were fodder for him on this surface.

Come on guys - look at the positives!

He wasn't due to play this week anyway so he gets valuable match practise and points. He ran one of the best indoor players of the year very close (first 2 sets) and he says his back is fine.

Stepanek wasn't going to be a pushover this time. Tim has played little and has little confidence. Stepanek has had a great year and done very well indoors and he had the incentive of preventing himself going 0/5 against Henman. I didn't expect Henman to win...I don't know why many did!

Also, okay he tanked...but there are still 3 tournaments left and he has never done well in Madrid so it is time for him to get used to the surface! He won't face a seed in R1 so he has every chance of getting a couple of wins next week. Don't give up on him yet!! :smash:

radek is a more than solid Indoor player, no shame in losing to him
but it was the manner of the loss, that was annoying.. henman and tie breaks

Yeah definitely - I agree with you mate. But also remember that that was indoor hard. Henman's best surface is indoor carpet ;)

remember when Vienna was dominated by the likes of Sampras, becker, goran, Henman, rusedski, stich ??
look at the round of 16 today - gonzalez, moya, lapentti, ferrero, lopez, nalbandian... robredo in the qf

Indoor hard is just a faster version of a hard court which pretty much any player can play on. Indoor carpet is something different...look at the Moscow QF line-up ;)

Tim's degenerative back problems can't be treated, I'm afraid this is pretty much the end of his career.

Poor Timmy, a defeat against a vastly overranked player whom he had never lost to is a bad ass.

In my opinion it wasn't that bad.
From the sounds of it he played well apart from collapsing in the third.
I think some perspective is needed. This was Tim's first event since the U.S Open and he was playing against an opponent who was match tight and in good form. That might sound like me dishing out the excuses, but those are the hard facts.
Tim on form and match tight would still be favoured to beat Stepanek in my opinion.
Better Luck in Madrid Tiger!
