Best of Luck to Nico in Madrid. I hope he is able to take advantage of the WC spot now. Of course now we have to wait and see what the stupid draw will be...Must think positive though!

No matter what happens though its great that he'll play there and that he has a great fan support! Love ya Nico!!! :inlove:

Oh, our sweetie was so thankful we got him the wild card!!!

Unfortunately, he's got to start winning or he'll be qualifying a lot. :-(

From latercera.cl:

Minutes before debuting, the same one vińamarino was contacted with his father. "He was very pleased, touched, because the wild card was won by the support gaven him from Chile", explains Manuel Massú, who adds that to his son complicated to play the qualy: "For him, that already he was usual to play in 'First Division', he turned out to be difficult to have that to descend to the classifications of a Masters Series.

I don't like to see Nico playing qualys but this is his actual level and maybe this can help him to work hard for the next season :)

Yeah I know, no pressure at all, but I think that we did our part voting millions of times, now is his turn, he has to take advantage of the wild card and I know he'll

'Cause I think that he needs to get some wins before the season is over and we need to see him winning again.

But no matter what, I'll support him forever! but like NicoFan said, Gaby please please help him!!!

Love ya Nico :inlove:

Vamos Nico in Madrid!! :bounce: Buena suerte!!! :yeah:

No, no, I deleted it...it was too critical.

I know that Nico is trying soooo hard. He works harder than a lot of players I've watched.

He'll get it together...just going through a rough patch here.

He'll be fine.

Love ya NICO!

Thanks Fergie. :)

Unfortunately for Nico, yes, its his reality right now.

He'll figure it out with Gaby. He's really doing everything right - he has a great coach, he works hard, he's fit. Just has to remember how to win on court. Just needs a good couple of wins, and he'll be back.

Hey Rosie!

Yeah, I'm not qualified either to tell Gaby how to do his job, but I have to admit at the US Open, whenever Nico was having problems, I had this urge to go over to poor Gaby and say - Gaby por favor, do something!!! lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have an awesome time in Madrid - so jealous! I love Spain, I love Madrid, and I love seeing our Nico! :) :) :)

Gracias to KidNicky for finding this.

This is a translation from the Madrid site - Nico did a clinic with the kids:

Massú, protagonist in the Clinic de Marca

The Chilean has enjoyed auditing this afternoon with various children in the number one training court.

Madrid, 15 of October, 2005 – Nicolas Massú has audited this afternoon with various children in the number training trail one in the development of the Clinic organized by the sports newspaper Marca.

The Chilean has been shown very nice with the kids, that have left the sideways timidity to dispute some so much one quarrelled with their relaxed rival one.

“I have passed it myself very well. I like this type of activity, I am used to participating in clinics in my country. To the boys likes to know the players and here they have the opportunity to do it”, has commented the double medalist of gold in the Olympic Games of Athens '04, that is very popular among the public of the Madrid Arena since the edition of 2003, when he reached the end.

“I agree of that tournament”, he comments with a smile. “I played against Roddick and the spectators encouraged me a lot, because if I beat him, Ferrero maintained the number one of the world. I expect to complete a good action also this year”.

Massú has entered the main picture of the Masters Series Madrid thanks to the invitation that granted marca.com. In the voting surpassed Alberto Martin, James Blake and Gael Monfils.

Then you would have been jealous of me this morning because Nico and Gaby were having breakfast at the next table  And no - I didn't talk to them apart from "hola" - they were deep in conversation, it would have been rude to interrupt, and I was with my friends. For those with a sartorial interest - Nico was wearing black tracksuit bottoms (with a white stripe down the side) and a lime green T-shirt - his hair was still wet from the shower and was tied loosely in a ponytail. Gaby was in shorts and a tracksuit top. They seemed fine.

Draw news:

Looking for a more friendly draw to put here but until I can find one, Nico plays a Qualifier in the first round, and if he wins, plays ToJo.

A qualifier can still be tough - but no matter who it is, sure is better than getting Rafa or another seeded player!

BUENA SUERTE NICO!!

This is funny - Nico and Guille helped with the main draw today...wonder if an official had to get between the two of them again...lol!!! ;)

From the Madrid site:

Here's another  for Nico.

He has zero confidence.

I don't know what the answer is.

I know that he's working hard. He's got a great coach. Just have to hope for a break here, win a match, and build on it.

I love this kid so much that its breaking my heart to see what has happened to him this season.

Sorry I cannot make you feel better people  I have just come back from the match and I was disappointed too - the old Nico fghting spirit has vanished - far too many unforced errors. It is true that Chela played a very solid match - hardly any unforced errors and a solid serve. But Nico did not punish his second serve at all and he seemed almost disinterested at times. In my opinion, (for what it's worth) - I think he should go home now and forget the rest of the European season - it will do his confidence no good to keep on losing matches like this. He needs time at home with his family to regroup and focus on next season. He and Gaby have had very little quality time together to think about their strategies - he needs some downtime to sort his head out and get into the right frame of mind for 2006. He is a great player and a great athlete - but this year has been bad for him - sometimes it is best to forget and move on and start building for the new instead of struggling anymore. Just my opinion anyway.

I certainly do not see any in their practice sessions or their behaviour towards each other. Gaby is an experienced coach and they know each other pretty well - I think Gaby will just see this as a time to regroup and look seriously towards next year.

I totally agree with you Rosie - I was thinking the same thing myself.

Go back to Chile, and he and Gaby need to figure this out.

I don't think there's a problem with him and Gaby either. I think Nico knows that its all him right now. He just has to dig deep inside of himself, and come up with the fire to get himself back.

We'll find out this offseason. If he goes back to Chile and after his 3-4 weeks vacation, he starts to train hard, shuts himself off from all the distractions, he'll come back. I wouldn't mind seeing him go to Argentina and train - where he can get some really good practice partners - my real wish is Miami or Tampa, but unfortunately, I doubt he'd do it. But if he goes back and doesn't train hard, 2006 will be a long long season yet again.

Nico is a great player - he has so much more talented than Calleri and Chela, and yet he gave them both victories. Very hard to watch this slide when it shouldn't be happening to all.

I changed my mind - but its a woman's perogative to change her mind, and I'm changing mine. ;)

I want my FIGHTER back!

I want the NICO of OLD back!

The guy that was always fighting his way from back down.

If it means that he has to play challengers the rest of this season and throughout part of his "offseason" than so be it - I checked there are challengers through the week of the Davis Cup final week. He's had enough time off this year with the injuries. And since he hasn't gotten past the first round since the US Open, he can't be overtired. I know that he'd never do it - but if he did, I would be so proud of him (though always proud of him but would be more proud of him).

Time to work. Time to turn this around.

Get that FIRE back NICO! :fiery:

Will love you and will always support you NICO - but would rather see the fighter I know and love!
