Andy Murray and Greg Rusedski will clash in a Scotland versus England challenge in Aberdeen in November.

The inaugural Aberdeen Cup will be played over 26-27 November and will take a Davis Cup-style format.

"To play for a Scotland team on my home turf against an England team containing the likes of Greg Rusedski is a great opportunity," said Murray.

Rusedski said: "There's always an extra edge when England face Scotland and I'm sure that this will be no exception."

Joining Murray in the Scotland line-up will be his older brother Jamie and current British number one Elena Baltacha, as well as a leading Scottish girl and boy from the Fred Perry Challenge. Invited to play alongside Rusedski for England are David Sherwood and British number three Katie O'Brien, as well as a leading English girl and boy.

Should be fab! There's nothing like English/Scots rivalry. It'll be great to see the new blood against one of the old guard too. Good idea to include the younger players.

I hope this is televised by the BBC - tennis needs all the coverage it can get to help inspire the next generation in the UK. This should be a great opportunity for that.

Alan Mackin should be playing for Scotland.

I wonder if the Scottish fans will run on the court, take the net and rip up the court if they win.

Judy Murray would smack them all with her racquet if they did that :tape:

They should play it at Wimbledon, that would be funny. Getting some of the best Rab C Nesbitt's coming to SW 19 and the fun could be endless.

£35 a head!!!

Since when was tennis ever a sport of the working class? At the same time still cheaper than many Prem League football games.

Yeah, but from a Scottish perspective it looks like Scots are going to form the backbone of the British team in the foreseeable future. Tennis is very much a minority sport in Scotland and the powers that be should be doing their best to make it attractive to a wider audience. In my book that means encouraging others to take an interest in the sport by, among other things, enticing them into events.

I don't think £35 is very enticing to the average punter!

Dashers, I don't agree with the pricing and never did, just giving a different view. It will take a lot for tennis to become popular in Scotland, though if Murray continues playing well, there might be an increase of interest. He made it not because of the LTA, it was more inspite of it.

It says he will play for England. He has been eligible for this since the day he was born. Actually eligible for GB, so I guess he could be on the Scottish team too.

But it smells of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The tennis season is long enough, but I guess there will always be British players hanging around that don't have the rankings to get into the tournaments.
