The MTF lineup. Who's going to the AO? Less than a month to go

Yes, the huge question is who from this board is going to the Aus Open? It might be for some people to meet up or just as importantly do everything they can not too meet up.

For those who don't know the qualies are free, as they should be. Usually from the Friday many players turn up and train, so it's a good time to go there and the like.

I'll be there, unless I am in a hospital or dead.

I would like to go to qualies at least, since the 1st week is clashing with something else. :ras:

So far, a good solid lineup and gravity I could be in Sydney or Auckland, it depends on which one is a better draw.

It should be fun and also got to pack your own food I am not playing $ 6 for a sandwich on qualie days.

Not during qualies, through the main tournament yes. I have to say one of those rubber hot dogs with things looking like onions helped me a lot actually get over a big night, so I will accept paying whatever it is for rubber hot dogs.

 Well I actually liked the Bratwurst sausage with onion hotdogs. I think they were about $7. Couldn't afford food every day though! Although if I stay in the city rather than commute from home as I look like doing, I might have to buy food at the venue... oh well as Prabu said, it's all part of the experience :)

Yippie, the tournament forum is here! Thanks for starting this thread, George.

I'm planning to be there from the middle Saturday to the end (apart from the last Saturday, i.e. women's final, cough cough).

With regard to food, are there any restrictions on what you can bring in? Is alcohol allowed?

As for food you can bring in most things, they do check bags, just have them wrapped up well and it won't be a problem. They are more interested in people sneaking in video cameras.

Alcohol, no it's allowed, but it doesn't stop some people, it's tactical game, if you want to bring it in or not.

as GWH said, they do check bags...but half the ppl in there are drinking alcohol (eg the Swedes) so it must be allowed in...i'm not really sure though as i don't drink alcohol so have never had to worry about that. obviously on heineken day there is plenty, but if you're coming on the middle Sat I think u might miss it.

Most of the Swedes drink at the Swedish Embassy before they go to the tennis. Also they have enough there and it's acually not allowed in by law.

Like anything there are ways around it.

Peta Pan

No alcohol is permitted to be brought into or out of the venue, but there is plenty of Heineken and champagne available inside (although like the food, it's rather pricey of course ;)).

We were never pretending to BE Swedes... the Swedes are just lovely enough people to accommodate anyone that wishes to join in their fun. Dress up in the yellow and blue, sing a bit with them and they love it :)

There are PLENTY of Swedes there each year... and Dutch, they are both lovely and it wouldn't be the same without them :yeah:

I'd prefer not to.... but, I want to get in the day of tennis at Sydney... and if I go by bus, I get a decent(ish) nights sleep, and wake up in Melbourne, with enouh time to settle in, and head down to Richmond station. Warehouses eh. *gets ideas*. I have been down the ramps (they smell SO bad!) only to find no exit... or it's a non-exit side... or, maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else as well. But, I've definitely gotten stuck inside the stinky station :tape: "Times you have embarrassed yourself in front of...yourself"

During the tournament when you don't need Richmond station the exits to the Tennis Centre is open and very easy to navigate. It's during other times (and qualifying) that that exit is closed and it gets (i suppose) more confusing. I know my way, but I guess I should do :p

Some of them train off-site, but it's possible to see some of the guys on the outside courts.

Of the matches I've been to, it's generally some Swedes and Aussies who are able to gather a few fans. And, the has-beens, trying to get back into main draws ;) I wouldn't really know though... my guys are quite a way outside the top 100 and I stay at their matches, not looking for popular (known) players
