It really looks like Stanislas Wawrinka might be the next best thing in Swiss tennis after Roger. (no discredit to Michel, George, Ivo, Yves and all the others.)

Well he won two challengers in a row and is even in the DC team now!!

Good luck Stani!!

Topic change as you wished Nathy ;)

I just saw him today for the first time and I think we will hear a lot about this guy because he seems to be extremely talented.
I saw some shots today which came straight from Roger's repertoire.

From Roger's post match interview

Q. A question from a countryman. Will you have time to send an SMS to talk about James Blake with Stan?

ROGER FEDERER: No problem. I'm on his side, not on Blake's side, that's obvious. I'm very happy that he managed to beat Massu. I haven't seen the match. Unfortunately, I was already in the hotel. What he has managed is absolutely fantastic. I think we should pay him compliments for that. I will not say that he's a favorite here, but he has a good chance against Blake.

Q. Are you going to give him advice?

ROGER FEDERER: I don't think it's very good to give people advice. My tennis is very different from other people, so what I might say might not help. If he wants me to help him, he can get in touch with me. But I didn't help him for beating Massu, and he did win. That was the best possible solution.

Stan played a real good match yesterday, he was awesome! :worship:

there were a few cheering Swiss fans compared to the loud Chileans but Stan was on a roll.

even Roger's mom and sister Diana came to watch the final set and mom Fed was cheering and prodding him on. :)

Yves Allegro was also there, so was Paganini, and other people that i didn't recognize. He always had eye contact with them during points. During the 3rd set Maggie Maleeva also came and sat with them.

If Paganini is working with Stan, that's a sign of good things to come for his game.

Good luck against Blake. Go get him! ;) Allez!

Mind you Nalby's returning is working really well in late two matches, and also his backhand, very stable and sharp, accurate. His forehand is a little down in Marcos' match, too many errors. But the serving is better than before.

i watched the clip from Seven Points about the highlights of Massu's match from Swiss sports news. Stan's volleys surprised me a lot. His serving is good, but not that stable, just regarding to that low 1st serve percentage. And also he is not good at TB. But his best of 5 performance today is really great :D I bet it must be a fantastic match if someone can have the luck to watch it.

And yes, the next one is Puerta. Very tough player. He is lefthanded, and much more patient, and stronger baseline than Blake. Puerta won easy two matches before. Stan should gotta bewareness.

Too bad I couldn't see the match live...
...apparently he could have won the first two sets too (had setpoint in the first and was serving for it in the secon....)
...but really great come back Stan!! Well done!! Now get enough rest and good luck against Puerta!! (And I feel that you can beat him too!!)

Hohou-!!! I am very happy that he won this 5 setter!! Well done, Stan!! But, it could have gone easier for him today, actually. According to the info, he had 5 set points in the first set tiebreak, and in the second set, he was serving for set, but got broken, I think. In his Davis Cup match against Shalken, despite having some match points, he lost the match eventually, so he might still have a problem of too much thinking, when he faces a victory or winning a set...

Anyway,,, I say

Stan the Man!!

Yeah, he should play those crucial points better, especially in TB. But obviously he is much much more strong-minded compared with the DC matches: won a 5 sets match even 2 sets behind. And it's sure Stan can learn more while playing further in the Grand Slam.

I lost my hope at 0-5 in the 4th set, but certainly Stan didn't. I was so impressed how wonderful he played at 1 game away from losing. He showed 2 wonderful service games and broke Puerta twice!! It wasn't Puerta's poor performance. It was Stan's spirit. At last, his forehand hit the net and he lost the match, but I saw Stan's good parts a lot today.

Stan, you still have a lot of things to learn, but how you were playing so short away from losing impressed me a big time. Me too, SP. He totally show his fighting spirit in all his three RG main draw matches. Against Massu, he lost TB in 1st set, but won it back by 3-1. Against Blake, even more amazing, he turned around the whole match even after 2 sets behind. Today, yes he lost, but he never gave it up, fighting to the last moment, saving one match point. Puerta is a veteran, definitely he is much more experienced in big matches and big moments than Stan. But I believe Stan will improve a lot after today, his confidence is sure to increase, and also the experience, how to play the crucial points etc.

HE IS SURE TO GO FURTHER AND WIN MORE NEXT TIME HERE!!!!

STAN, YOU ARE GREAT!!! :woohoo::hug:

05-28-2005, 02:49 PM
Hi, Corrina~

His 1st set is quite amazing. Puerta played terribly, but come back quickly in 2nd set, and didn't give Stan chance in his serving games of both 2nd & 3rd sets. Stan played still good in 2nd set, but down in 3rd set, especially his unstable serving. And in 4th set, he is great :worship:, broke back twice while 0-5. Though finally lost 4-6, this is a good match for him, and sure he can learn sth from it. A great week for him :D

Of course I can't watch this match, just like you  Our TV only show center courts matches.....You can read SP's posts in former pages for some sense.

Isy: I saw Stan's game and I think the fact that he won the first set 6-1 didn't allow him to judge his level regarding Puerta's game... And then he became tired because it was his 6th game in 15 days... But he showed great character in the 4th set to come up from 5-0 to 5-4 even if he finally lost... He is really great!

Stan finally lost to Lars Burgsmuller by 6-2 5-7 3-6

He did a great job in 1st set, only 27 mins stuns Lars. But lost his very crucial last serving when 5-6 at the end of 2nd set, and let Lars made it 1-1. At the beginning of the 3rd set, he was a bit at loss, and lost a serving again, Lars leads 3-0 too early. And then seems he woke up again, have good chance to break Burgsmuller, but still didn't make it after wasting 2 bps :bigcry:

I think it's a good grass lesson for him, but one match warming before Wimbly is really short. And this time no more qualifying matches in GS, maybe some grass practise in the next days can help somewhat. Good luck Stan :)

I only go to 2 tourneys per year, so I normally I choose to stay from beginning to the end :p I prefer the early rounds too: more players and more matches. Final day is too expensive, and if two of my blacklist players meet in the final, it will be disaster.

Stan lost to Santoro by 2-6 7-6(7) 7-5 1-6 :(

He seems not very used to Santoro's style at first, and lost 1st set. But in 2nd set, he began to be used to the court and Fabrice's style, played very well, held every serving, and won the Tiebreak (This is not easy, coz we know how many tb he lost before....).

The 3rd set is very crucial, he broke early, and leads 3-1. But I don't know why, just felt it's very very difficult for him to hold every serving after that time. I can't watch the match, even the stats, but guess maybe it's his serving began unstable again. Then, lost the serving finally, and be broken by Santoro, made the score 4-4. And be broken again when 5-6, thus lost the important 3rd set. I just thought if he can won this set, then he can won the whole match. Really pity anyway :banghead:

The 4th set was gone fast, and Stan lost the whole match. He did has the chance of winning, but still Fabrice is much more experienced on grass than him.
