I think Ljubicic has an outside shot of qualifying for the masters

he'll have to get about 200 points in the race, but he's on fire and it's his favorite time of the year. ajmo ivane!

The problem with Yvan is that when he has a shot to something, he usually shoots himself in the foot.

it is pretty difficult at least andre agassi and marat safin pull out of the masters! even he is pretty far of puerta and gaudio :o

He would need to win a masters series , reach the QF in the other and that his rivals don't add up no point MIRCALES DO NOT HAPPEN

...and Dent and Roddick have each made a solemn promise not to have crisps, chocolate, pizza, beer and burgers between now and the start of 2006 in order to lose much-needed weight for next season

No he wont make it, he has 50,100,45,100 left. he will get about 100-150. he has chance to win Vieanna 50+ 2 QF at TMS= 100, + what ever he does if at Lyon.

JerryS - you are forgetting that his best 4th and 5th results are 28 and 35 respectively so he will gain little if anything from those 2 optional events left. He will have to do exceptionally well in the 2 Masters...Henman will probably appear somewhere knowing my luck! :haha: :scared:

Winning in Viena he would get 50 points but only add up " 22 points ", and if after he won in Lyon he would only add up " 10 points "

Well they do actually. However, first on his miracle list should be hair implants ;)

ivan has strangely underperformed at the mandatory events in the pasti(and he can't gain much now in the 5 extra)...

Has he ever reached the 4th round of a GS? Or the SF of a TMS?

I think he may have reached the QF - perhaps the SF -- of a TMS a couple of times.

Until he hangs up his racquets for good...I refuse to believe that.

Just ask JerryS and the rest of the Croat fans...actually guys...could you get Goran to bless Henman's racquet as soon as he is knocked out of Queen's 2006?

He made semis last year in Madrid, don't know about the rest though....
He needs some big performances in the TMS's to even stand a chance of making it.

The best thing possible for Tim is for Murray to keep progressing and get all the attention and hype.
Therefore come Wimby 2006, everyone will be saying Tim who and thus allowing Tim to play great again with all the pressure off. There's my best case scenario....

I will tell you the worst scenario . Henman arrives to Wimbly without being a seeded player and he has to face Roger in the first round , a funny scenario, right ?

 Think there's a mention that L'Equipe said anyone through Gasquet (12th in the Race) had a shot. As Ljub is not that high up, I'm pretty sure Gaudio/Puerta/Ferrer/Gasquet would all have to not amass any more points this season and he'd have to win both Madrid and Paris to qualify = major miracle.

Ivan's never been past the 3rd round at a Grand Slam. :o

I think that's correct, it is an *outside* shot. It will depend on a lot of things going right for him and a lot of things going wrong for the other people ahead of him

I'd say Ivan has a shot, based on the fact that there are no more Grand Slams this year.

Ljubicic is on fire? DC has surely woken him up because after that streak (which quite frankly looks like a huge fluke now :tape: ) at the start of the season and after he single handedly took out the USA in the 1r of Davis Cup, he's been death. He won a "mickey mouse" event, as many players like to call them, don't jump for joy. Oh and don't forget those players ranked around Ivan in the Race will also be adding points so it works both ways :p.

He reached the semis in Hamburg and in Madrid last year, so he´s capable to play well in the big events from time to time. If I remember correctly, he lost to Coria in 3 sets on clay, that´s why I was very disappointed of his results during the clay season this year.

well, in that "mickey mouse event", he crushed a top10 player, took out one of the brightest tennis prospects with ease, and beat an indoor specialist

it's not like he didn't play anyone in the top50 to win it (like some players)

I expect Ljubo to make top10, but not top8. Anything is possible though, we will see.

Our counts were made considering that there wouldn't have no withdrawal..

So if Safin hadn't witthdrawn , Ljubicic only could go to Shanghai in the case of he won in Paris , then if on Sunday Ljubo won this TMS i will say i was wrong, but meanwhile i don't see my mistake

If Safin didnt withdraw-
Ljubicic does not need to win Paris to go, 9th player also goes as alt.

but you were wrong by a mile,

The thread title was "qualifying for Shanghai". I think that was not equal to "going to Shanghai as alternative". And qualifying, like Galaxy has written, does depend on Marat to withdraw

But I think many people thought it was not even an outside chance, like it was completely out of questoin, so Croat was correct in his prediction. :yeah:

Do you know what we are talking about ??

I was only saying that when some weeks ago me and some more persons said that it was almost impossible that Ljubo qualified for Shanghai, this prediction was under the hypothesis that no player would withdraw..

In the case of Safin hadn't withdrawn ( as the initial hypothesis ) Ljubo would need to win Paris to be in Shanghai as one of the 8 players who compete and not as an ALT

Please do not manipulate what i say

If on Sunday Ljubo wins, i will rectify , meahwhile although you say " you were wrong by a mile " you're just a manipulator ... :wavey:
