Fastest players.

Who are the fastest player on the tour in your opinion. Lets say we put them on a 100m track who would turn out to be the fastest? I will go with Hewitt with Coria just behind him;) Roddick would something like number 3 because when he is on he can chase down some incredible dropshots but the problem is he is so lazy so we don't get to see his great sprinter's qualities. ;) Srichaphan also deserves a mention here.

in a 100m dash? The taller, lankier players have a huge advantage.

So I doubt Hewitt or Coria would be the fastest on the tour in a 100m dash. I'd have to go with monfils.

Many players have said Nadal isn't the fastest but he anticipates a lot so that's why he gets lots of balls back.
How did I forget Monfils,he is tall with strong tall legs, but I still think Hewitt is the fastest on the tour.

being the fastest on the tour doesn't mean you'd be the fastest in a 100m dash.

Sure Hewitt or Coria can accelerate and reach their top speed faster than other people. But over the course of 100m, where that really allows you to get into your stride and actually shows how fast you really are able to run... monfils would crush both hewitt and coria.

So basically: in a 25m dash - i'd pick hewitt
in a 100m dash - monfils by a landslide

Blake has the best acceleration of any top 100 player, so I'd go with him in 100m.

I would put Davydenko in the race, he can move really quickly.

Rafa = Fed Killa

Nadal and Coria would be neck and neck.
Coria is faster but Nadal's height will give him an advantage in a sprint.

I think none of us can say who is the best 100 mts runner because tennis players just make at the most movements of 15 mts approximately ..A tennis player can be not very explosive on a tennis court ( that is in the first 10-15 mts ), but in a 100 mts race can have a very good acceleration and will be very fast at the last 50-60 mts.

in 100yard dash Nadal would get beat by quite few players. on court its different story.

Some people talks about Coria and i don't think he has enough muscular mass to keep his speed through 100 mts, he would be a good short ( 50 or less mts ) races runner . A heavier player like Hewitt , is surely faster in a 100 mts race.

Blake has the best acceleration of any top 100 player, so I'd go with him in 100m.
That's true. He is beating professional 100m sprinters on the first 10 to 15 meters.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Federer, he is quick and moves with ease.

2003 Rainer

Yes he had very happy feet, it was a pleasure to watch on the baseline rallies, getting those big groundies back with his great footwork skills.

0-60m: Blake
0-400m: Hewitt

Sustaining speed might be more relevant in tennis than simply sprinting.

Dick should play golf. He would be the fastest one to get to the hole.

Theres a difference between speed and the ability to be a great mover around the court.

Example, Agassi is probably one of the slowest players moving on tour but, he anticipates so well he always seems to be in the right position. James Blake is probably the fastest player, pure talent wise on the tour but, he doesn't have the kinda footwork or anticipation that Agassi has so it actually means he doesn't move as well.

Nadal, Federer, Coria, Hewitt, and Ginepri probably are the fastest on tour because they have great footwork and they anticipate so well, not to mention the fact that they have fast feet. Just because you have the fastest times on the track doesn't mean you will have it on the court.

The most consistently fast and one of the most successful 100 meters sprinters of all time is Maurice Greene. He is 5'9" and this makes me think that suggestions that Hewitt's or Coria's height count against them are groundless. Hewitt's build is closer to Greene's so that makes me think he'd be faster than Coria in the 100 meters.

Fastest players around a court in 2005:
1 Coria
2 Hewitt
3 Nadal
4 Federer
5 Canas

This 100m sprint idea is not very useful.
Speed on a tennis court requires balance and good change of direction, especially on slippery clay courts. Good acceleration is also important. A 100m sprint would give a very different result and would not show which players are fastest. Roddick would probably win the 100m sprint because he has a good top speed but his balance and acceleration is relatively poor.

Good point. :yeah: Also, luckily for Agassi, he doesn't HAVE to run as far as most of the others because of his court positioning. Geometrically, he has less ground to cover than someone being run side to side far behind the baseline.

Well I know what you meant but it doesn't mean anything to tennis and since this is not a track forum, it of course became a who is the fastest on the tennis court questions. Sides well all know Tsonga is the fastest on tour.

the first person that comes to mind is Blake, he always appears fast to me...but I would also consider Fed, Hewitt, Ginepri, & Coria as being fast as well...I think we get to see Fed running a lot because he's one of those players that will go after every ball that he can...
