from what i've been told he was injured but i dunno if it's true, one uy who did some betting told me this. (and those guys know such things lol)

but i am very very happy!!! i like Gael so much and i would love if he could win in Metz :yeah:

Good win for Monfils.

Richard should have retired if his elbow wasn't physically up to it or fought harder if he thought he had a chance. There's no point playing injured and not fight. Definitely something he has to work on.

from what I know Gasquet still has a touch of tennis elbow. but supposedly it has gotten better since the U.S.O. so i would have thought that he would have been able to perform at least equally as well. oh well, Monfils probably just played great tennis.

oh i hope it is a piece of true about Gael inshape, finally leaving his back injury behind.

i saw him playing really great with my won eyes but whenever i saw him on TV he was just too passive and many people don't believe he's able to do the great things. maybe today was the day he was performing the way i saw him this year in Sopot from 2nd round to semifinal...

It's not tennis elbow, they found out later. He has a fissure in his elbow. In hindsight, it was quite foolish to return to play when the fissure hadn't completely healed yet.

oh. ok, so what is a fissure? sounds painful. lets hope he doesn't ruin his career before it really gets off the ground!

A sort of crack. It was 6 mm long apparently. :o

That's what I think too. He should withdraw from all his commitments until the injury is fully healed. I can't understand why even Eric asked Richard not to show his opponent he is injured (against Ancic in Cincy for eg.). If he is injured, he should retire for a while and recover from it instead of coming to tournaments saying, "I still feel the pain but it's gonna get better".
I am still very  about this loss today...

What a stupid comment from him :p Anyway, I know Gael was #53 in the race before this tournament, can someone tell me what number he is now, and what number he'll be if he wins his semi and win the final.

perhaps he should just take the rest of the year off. It would be quite a disappointment for him I am sure, and for his fans. But it would be worth it if he could recuperate, come back, and be 100% for next year. If he did this, he probably wouldn't do so well at the AO, perhaps being a bit rusty, but at least he wouldn't be nursing an injury.

Richie was injured it seems and sulking a bit like he used to do. He was complaining about his elbow again. This injury started in Cincinatti, they should try and sort it out for good now. He earned some points in USO and even here, but it's very frustrating to watch him play at 80%.
His serve was ineffective against Gael, I don't know in what proportion it was due to his injury. But props to Gael who made him play, ran after every ball and attacked the ball well. And he served very well.

Anyway, I'm disgusted as I was thinking I could see Richie on TV a bit this week end but at least, we can have fun with evanzo now.

He is still young. He has had great results this year... I don't understand why his staff asks him not to talk about his injury to the press, makes him playing tournaments if he is still injured. He has had one month off and he still feels the pain...Things won't get better for him, if he goes on playing tournaments. But that's just my opinion ;)

Report there (only watched it on tv): http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?p=2454035#post2454035

It's better that Richard suffers from this 6 millimeters fissure/crack that could heal completely just with resting it more and giving it the time than from a tendinitis because it's not simple to make it heal...
The only thing that makes this sad is the race for the masters, he's out of it definitely now for this season.

Gaël played very well too. With brain and agressiveness for once! :p
And even if Richard was far from being at his best he won this. ;)
