He says that Marat's treatment will continue for at least 1.5 more month. At this moment doctors are trying hard to avoid surgery. But to stay in a top 10 Marat would need to play several tournaments this year, and knowing Marat he might well take that risk.. So, he concludes, it is not out of question that Marat migth play soon.

He should still be in the top 10 if he doesn't play again this year. Being fit for the AO should be more of a concern - if he hurts himself and can't play that, then certainly he'll be out of the top 10 (probably top 30).

He will play and then the injury will get worse and he has to retire of tennis.

With marat and agassi having injury problems... hewitt as well plus the fact his wife will give birth soon, and Puerta going through the drug problems im wondering just who the 8 players lining up at the shanghai masters cup next month could end up being

imagine David Ferrer playing :eek:

Low rankings haven't stopped him in the past.

I hate to say it again but he came back too soon in Cincy. I have no idea why he did it. I hope he gets well soon so we can see a healthy Marat in Australia.

Good point. If these guys can't play, it completely opens up the race for that 8th spot.

11 Ferrer 274pts
12= Gasquet 266pts
12= Nalba 266pts
14 Gonzo 263pts
15= JCF :) 257pts
15= T Johansson 257pts
17 Robredo 244pts
etc..

Personally, I would love JC to qualify inspite of his terrible year. Only 17pts cover 6 players so anyone could still qualify.

Unfortunately, I'm quite sure that Agassi and Hewitt will be there. Marat is still determined to play so I rate his chances quite highly. And has Puerta already been suspended from the tour?

If Marat is unable to play, Gaudio would be the first alternate.

Isn't his rank protected for injury related problems?

Hopefully Gasquet can manage to sneak in and qualify, but that'll be tough. As for Safin playing, it'd be cool as long as he's fully recovered by then. :)

He will play and then the injury will get worse and he has to retire of tennis. Thats a horrible thing to say. That aint gonna happen! Id rather Marat not play till 06 than make his knee worse.
