From his official website:

02.10.05 There is good news and bad news - depending on how you look at it.
The good news is the knee injury is progressing well - the bad news is that it has been decided that Marat will not play until the St. Petersburg Open followed by Bercy and then Shanghai Masters Cup. Ths will give him some practice before the end of the season to test out the knee and then he will start the new season of 2006 fully fit. At this stage it has not been confirmed which tournament he will start with in 2006 but it is anticipated he will start with a regular tournament rather than an exhibition match.

Marat :crying2: I miss him, I hope he is recovering, and that this will ignite some fire in him to play well when he comes back. Thanks for the update

i doubt he will be back for rest of the year. it might be best for him just to take rest of the year off and get ready for 2006.

This is no good for Marat, but he should do everything he can to make sure he does not come back to soon and put him further behind in his physical health. He might need to take the rest of 2005 off and be fit and ready for 2006.

With Marat missing the indoor carpet season, Fed's chances of winning 13/14 titles this season seems more of a possibility.

he got booed?? why?

I don't remember the reason, but he was booed during the tournament and in fact in the final the crowd supported Nalbandian.

I was just being ironic about Safin's gift for being booed wherever he goes . I remember this year when he got booed in Barcelona , also in Rome if i'm not wrong....

Will Marat ever return to play tennis this year? Every time he's supposed to play a tourney, his return is delayed... he s have recuperated fully instead of playing Cincy... he could have been playing now.

Marat booed? I'm not aware of it unless he does sth to provoke it, like smash his racquet altho when he does that he doesn't usually get booed... people like it! ;) If he gets booed, he knows he deserves it and looks sheepish.

Maybe Marat should just take the rest of the year off and start fresh next year.

Too bad for Marat fans.

I thought he was crazy for playing in Cincy against doctor's recomendations. I hope that didn't set back his recovery.

I just hope he listens to the doctors' advice as to when to return. He has to ignore his own and his fans' impatience and not try to come back too soon. Hopefully he will heal well and his doctors will get him back to us as soon as they can whether it's this year or next.

Heal well and quickly Marat...everyone misses you!

I'd rather see him take off the rest of the year than come back to soon and exacerbate the injury.

That's what I was also saying - come back when he is able. But leave the decision to his doctors who actually know what his staus is. Not to people who "think" he should be back now or who "think" he should stay away till some random time next year. I'm sure his doctors are competent to judge when he is able to return. That's when he should come back - not sooner and not later! But whenever it is; the sport will miss him during his absence.

Well.. If anything, Marat should try to take an advantage of this whole situation.. The next thing that really matters is indeed AO.. All these small tourneys and masters/shmasters alone are not worth an effort.. For most of players qualifying for YEC Masters means a lot more than playing well there.. So, if Marat wants to focus on AO, it is a good idea to play a couple of events at the end of the year ( to get back into competitive mood ) and then , while everyone will be tired and resting during the offseason, Marat can work with no offseason ( and Marat has rested enough to be able to scrap it ) to peak by AO time, like Agassi always does.

Marat will be back in time for the event he owns, Paris Bercy

That's too bad. I think he came back too early when he played in Cincy. In hindsight, it probably wasn't a good move.

yep, then he can play the Aussie Open, then take the rest of the year off and come back for the carpet season! Go Marat!
