Monfils has some points to defend and his recent form has been poor

some but not a lot, he only played metz and paris last year. plus players ranked near him probably have more points to defend than he does. if he plays decently well he will stay inside the top 50.

Yeah, I can't see asthma boy getting into the top 50 this year, maybe end of next year.

I'll be there among the Parisians to make a lot of noise in Paris for him to try to do that...They're waiting for him there.

Djokovic needs about 300 points to crack the top 50.

Monfils and Djokovic.

Horatio Caine

None of them.

Monfils is playing like crap, Djokovic is miles off, and Murray has to have 2 similarly decent runs to get there...I don't think he has enough tournaments left this year to stand that chance...and the challengers he might be playing won't get him much further up the ladder.

Top 60 - Monfils and Murray. Top 80 Djokovic.

Since you like laughing at other people's health problems you'll be sad to know that Novak is having an operation in December so he will no longer be Breathing-Problem-Boy (he doesn't have asthma) next year.

Monfils.

Well, first round of Metz: Monfils vs. Chela...
Everything can happen of course but i fear Metz will only bring 1 point to him...

Who keeps good repping this troll? IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY. I understand repping Alexito, but I draw the line at this one.

Anyways, to answer the question, the one who will be in the top 50 at the end of the year is already there.

Right, he's going to end up around 60th. Just as you, the resident rankings expert, predicted! The ATP is actually going to deduct him points for first and second round losses in order to make this possible, and it's going to be amazing.

I'll just wait to be proved right, then you can apologise.

Have you seen Chubby Chela's indoor record in the last three years? (I'm not saying you should have done, but still ;) ) He's won back to back matches exactly once at this time of year, back in 2003 when he made the quarters in Madrid. He didn't win a single match last year after the US Open, so Monfils has an excellent chance there. Chela is the man who took three games off a less illustrious Frenchman, the great Thierry Ascione, in TMS Paris 2003.

If he fails to win any matches for the rest of the season, he would end just outside the top 50. Around 60ish is so improbable that I think I don't need to worry. ;)

I saw Ascione at the USO and the man either sports a beer gut or is built somewhat like Nalbandian. Or both :p

It was a mystery to me how he managed to stay in the Top 100 last year and get into most main draws seemingly without winning a single match. And to think, this is the man who almost had Nadal in a corner at last year's AO. How times change.

Chloe le Bopper
10-02-2005, 11:39 AM
I think he actually beat Nadal a couple weeks before that. I vagely recall calling him "asscione" for a while :tape:

Sjengster

Why, so he did.

Chennai, India
International Series, 5-Jan-04, O, Hard , Draw: 32

R32 Ascione, Thierry (FRA ) N/A 6-7(5) 4-6

Mind you, Nadal was also bagelled by Julien Benneteau around this time last year.

How much has Andy's ranking improved this week? I suppose that he has a shot if he keeps this form up.

I thought I had responded to this post already, so I haven't been, but I guess that must have been some other post... oh well.

Anyway, Monfils, and Murray if he finishes strong.

I think Monfils and Murray have the better shots because firstly Monfils entrnace into at least Paris Masters and Murray's capabilites of getting a wild card into one or both Masters, Djokovic will have to qualify (not to sure what he is like indoor, from what i have seen of him i would say it's his weakest surface so maybe it will come a bit to soon for him to break into to 50, but depending on draws and other situations i feel Monfils has the only realistic chance with his current ranking.

My predictions for year end:

Monfils 46
Murray 64
Djokovic 75

End of next Year:

Murray Monfils and Djokovic all in the top 40 at least!!!

Bump!
Monfils earns 75 points and almost makes it for what he earned at the end of last year. He's almost dead cert for top50 at the end of the year now.
