I would not give any excuse for Ferrero, I have not watched the match to comment, but he was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second and was 4-1 in the 3rd - that says pretty much for his current form - up and down.

I'd also like to quote the author of the thread and leave people judge themselves about her (basic) knowledge of tennis in last few years.
lol ferrero was so lucky to win roland garros
no nadal ,no coria at his peak, no federer at his peak, no gaudio at his peak (he was an horrible choker by then)

He was tired from Davis Cup!

Or he was just bad when it mattered. JC  You had leads in both 2nd and 3rd sets :(
I can't believe Behrend has beaten JCF and Verdasco here. Any time I have seen Behrend he has been a topspinning grinder with a game straight out of the early 1980s. I would not have picked him to come through Verdasco and JCF. I guess they just didn't have the patience.

And for the record, you will find that Ferrero fans make very few excuses for his poor play. You will find that we hype him up and think he has a shot to beat anyone he plays (for our own sanity mostly), but when he doesn't pull through, we aren't generally the ones making excuses. We're pretty used to this by now.

Honestly Juanqui, 3-0 up in the 3rd and you lose? You're destined to be stuck in #20 - #35 for the rest of your career, I'm afraid.

aww, how optimistic. I like it.

Behrend beat Moya once. I think. I might be wrong about that, but I think it depressed me for a day.

EDIT: I WAS RIGHT AND BEHREND HAS BEATEN MOYA TWICE. in case anyone cared.

Behrend has beaten Moya twice actually, just like he has with Ferrero.

A good win for Tomas and his first ever semi final on the main tour, hope he can continue the good form over Volandri or Boredo.

Take a peek at the Ferrero forum and you'll find that his fans had stopped excusing him long time ago. Instead, we are busy finding excuses for ourselves to continue to support him :p . Here's one: he did make me really happy when he wins in those good old days, now is payback that I stand by him when he is losing, all these years :o .

I think I have adjusted my expectation, top 20 is hell lot better than outside top 20, no?

That is so true about the forum. :yeah: Considering the name of our cheering thread for this tournament was "First round loss or win it all...whatever Palermo Cheering Thread" you can see we don't expect anything from him except for what he chooses to give us at this point. :p

Juan Carlos is no longer world number one everyone. You can't expect a world number 20 to reach the Semis/Finals at every tournament they contest. Meanwhile, JC is doing a great job of getting into the quarters. And rising 90+ rankings in one season is fantastic in my books.

Still, no excuse for giving away a break point and losing from 4 games up in the third set

Jimnik
10-01-2005, 09:19 AM
Oh JC
That must be the 10th time he's won 2, lost 1 at a tournament this year.
To get into the TMC now, he has to win one of the AMS events in Madrid or Paris.

At times like this, I wish he wasn't my favourite player :banghead: but, unfortunately, he is and he always will be. Besides, there's always hope. The day he retires will be the day I stop believing. Let the miracle start in Vienna and win the tournament JC.

Moreover, Behrend is 4-0 in sets against Moya on clay. Not to be underestimated, although he did look distinctly feeble while crashing out against Coria in the first round of Wimbledon this year with a soulful grunt that should take its rightful place in the Hall of Fame. The first time I ever saw him was when he eked out a win over Rios at the WTC two years ago, but Rios was dominating the match before he decided to go into tank mode.

Apart from looking like Luis Horna look on page 1 of the Lookalike threads to see the resemblance.

Behrend has had a big surge this year won 2 challengers and is comfortably ranked in the top 100 and had a good week this year, he is 30 now and showing good form.

He fights hard and does have excellent grunting skills and a great record against Pavel.

I agree with everything you say here. He was down at 97 in February and top 20 again by September so he has slowly been building his ranking and he has nothing really major to defend until the Monte Carlo SF. He should play as often as possible these last tournaments, give it one last effort, and get as many matches as he can I think.

I saw this match too and that grunt was the most entertaining thing about it (I think Coria wrapped up the 3 sets in about 80 minutes). Behrend would grunt just as he hit the ball and he was still in the process of grunting as Coria was hitting his shot (!)
